All you have to do is download a live cd from ubuntu or something. It won't change anything on the system.

i heard about these. u just put it in and it will boot from the cd right? but will this give me the full sha zam of ubuntu... i really would like to see if ubuntu is the right match for me before i wipe my hdd of all my files and vista. also i dont know if ubuntu will run correctly on my machine that is built for windows and i dont want to mess up the software that boots it up or im screwed that would suck
and i dont wanna drop the do to (a) get it fixed (b) get a new computer

@willman1661 if you have a decent graphics card and RAM you should be fine just reformat before you install :) and if you don't want to sacrifice your windows machine just get a virtual machine or even just boot from the cd
