  • Could someone tell me how to play this on my GCEA tuned uke ?

  • @matkusko He actually has his E tuned only half a step, so you would have to lower your E string to Eb/D# for it to sound right.

  • I love this.

  • thankyou for all these great videos, i have a question do you tune your uke to D or C? :)

  • I am sure he is british! (his accent). Great voice though, you can be a great narrator..

  • TBUSITW - endless pleasure for me too :-)

  • Thank you for the videos! :) You sound like the voice over actor for those Disney movies intros!!! :)

  • and the 16 people that dislike this video think it should be the #1 BEST strum

  • his tunning is A D F# B

  • Thank you ........ legend !

  • Thanks for all the vids Mr P, really helping me get the hang of strumming. As a man with no natural musical talent this is really helping. A quick question if I may be so bold... I am left handed - would you recommend I try inverting the uke and strumming with my left hand and shaping chords with my right? Thanks, and much love from the Caribbean

  • The whole uke is tuned up a tone :-)

  • Yup - I tune all my cheap ukes up a tone. They sound sweeter that way.

  • i think this should be the best strum in the world!

  • how do you strum? with just one finger? or with two and how do you do it??

  • what tipe of a ukulele do you have

  • This is awesome!

  • Man, i wanna learn to play some of UB-40 songs on the ukulele and play beach boys - Kokomo, itll take time but hey imma do it

    any examples or notes?

  • almost made me cry... that beautiful it was

  • I can't find your version of take a walk on the wild side, would love to see it.

    Anyway keep it up!

  • your voice kept me watching XD

  • i just ordered my first uke. im classically trained in alto saxophone so string instuments r new for me. Neway, great vid. im definitely a beginner and ur vid was detailed but to the point. great job. thanks

  • That is a mighty lovely groove! It sounds really good slow, too :)

  • i find that i have the same RW ukulele as yours, Richwood, i bought it right from the manufacturer.

  • Amazing thank you so much @DD

  • I hate it when poeple put misleading titles on videos but this is not :L

  • What kind of uke is that?

  • WOW i was in a horrible mood when i got on the internet, after listening to this strum i can't stop smiling! :):):):):):)

    Thanks for the smile!

  • i'm definitely going to use this one haha :)

  • epic strum my man!

  • ukulele and epic aren't two words that sit easily together. But I like it ! thank you in Sweden.

  • hi I'm thinking about getting a ukulele only I dont know what kind to get. I'm 15 and I have never played a uke before. Any Ideas?

Great video by the way, I'll be sure to learn this tune when I get my uke :)

  • The problem with cheap ukes is they often don't play "in tune". If you start shaping chords above the third fret they sound awful. Best thing, if you're not sure, is take someone with you who can check this out for you. If you spend over $200 its less of a problem. OK ? Best of luck with it.

  • @COVEYWOOD I'm goonaa save up and get a uke for about 80 english pounds, im just wondering if it would be a waste, like if its not good quality, what type of uke would you recommend? thanks! :)

  • @COVEYWOOD: somewhere on YouTube, Jake Shimabukura is playing a sub-$100 uke

  • Get a Kamaka. Best in the world.

  • @Themonkeyman106 i have a pineapple its really cool :P

  • is this tuned to anything specific??

  • ADF#B. Enjoy

  • thank you ha i didnt read the screen till after i sent the message

  • What kind of Ukulele do you have?

  • A bunch of cheapo eBay ones and one beautiful borrowed Mele.

  • AWESOME strum, thanks so much for sharing it.

    i really love it.

  • My pleasure :-)

  • great video. a little bit of determination and you guys should also get this down within hours..or minutes (=.

  • playing guitar for 3 years, got my uke today, so glad I watched this video. refreshing

  • Got uke, can travel. :-)

  • agh my fingers hurt trying to learn this X)

  • After watching this catchy strum over and over umpteen times, I finally managed to get this pattern out of it: Would appreciate if others agree. Thx.

    (D=down; Th = thumb; Up!)

    Here it is:

    D - TH - D - TH - UP! UP! - TH - UP! - D - TH

  • yea thats what i got.

  • Thanks so much for transcribing this- really helpful :)

  • @beauttube I appreciate that !

    Thanx man !

  • haha man you are amazing!!!

  • hey i would like to learn how to play the ukelele, and i would like to get feedback on what brand of ukelele to buy, and what the different kinds are, etc. because it looks fun and challengingso if you could comment back, then that would be great!

  • Try a Mele.

  • can i use a guitar pick to play my ukulele? im not very good at strumming with my fingers, they always seem to get stick when im doing an up stroke.

  • how do your fingers get stuck while doing an upstroke, btw get a felt pick if its on uke

  • mahalos are cheap and quite nice to start of with.

  • Coveywood- You are the man. I like your videos.

    Keep up the good work!

  • how bout on the baritone uke?

  • Thank you! Your a brilliant teacher, and I love playing the result. It was totally worth tuning up for this.

On the downside, I didn't warm up my fingers and my index finger hurts from the barring. :(

No pain, no gain though. :) Onto learning your other strums. Thanks again.

  • Go Mark !

  • Haha. Thank you.

After learning your "best ukulele strum in the world", i see how it got it's title. The technique is similar to a clawhammer in most respects, isn't it?

Anyway, thanks again. These are definately the best sort of tutorials at an intermediate level.

  • awesome, can you play this in regular tuning?

  • I want your voice!

  • lol

  • indeed. its very seductive i should say? haha

  • Thank you so much! I'm trying to learn these strums and pickings right now

  • i love the sound of the ukulele, its simple and yet it gets to you. im 18 and i just started playing, its rough but it will be well worth it! and no its not the first instrument Ive picked up, just the first with strings.

  • im in the same situation as u i sing and i kinda play paino and im 18 lol totally get what ur going through

  • Thanks for the answer !

I really appreciate that. I'll work on it then, it is worth it !

  • Great strums !

I tried to train with your 'best strums' those weeks since they're really cool, but I admit I have a problem with this one...

I can get pretty speedy but I can't hear this nice 'double thumb notes' kind of sound that you reach when you increase your speed... :-(

Do you modify something or is there a problem with my rithm?

Thanks or the answer and continue the good work and fun ;-)

  • Don't think I've changed anything significant. Rythms like this do take a bit of time to get the "feel" - its a subtle thing. Work on looseness and flexibility in your hand and I'm sure it will come. I know a bunch of players who have cottoned on to it in the end. Piers

  • when did you start playing COVEYWOOD?

  • hey!

    whats ur tuning?

pls write back to this pls.

i need something other than gcea.

    it gets a bit boring.

an some songs don't sound good to it.

  • I have tuned the Uke a tone higher than normal. So . . . ADF#B. Enjoy - Piers

  • Hey good vid, I'm a fan of yours!

One question though, what tuning was that?

(I've been playing for a few years now, but I usually play by ear and I don't know a lot about tunings other than G-C-E-A. :D)

  • great, thanks for sharing that with everybody.

  • You sir are a saint.

Listening to your videos I bought a 260 dollar ukulele. I am still learning of course and it is hard, but I must try!

    Please keep making videos!

  • You really 14 ? Start uke now and you will be scarily good. PP

  • Do you need long fingernails to strum like that? also shall i grow my hair on my fingers to get that tone?

  • Just grow your hair, that should be enough.

  • Until i played uke my chest was also bare.Longish fingernails helps to give the strum a crisper tone. Piers

  • Thanks for the lesson. Keep 'em coming!

  • i only know the ukelele by proxy, but this is brilliant; thank you..

  • good advice ill be sure to use.

  • wow sounds absolutely great the music makes me happy

i think im gonna buy a ukulele now

    =) thanks for your vids

  • THe CHoRDz R BeauTiFuL!!! i WaNNa LeaRN HoW 2 PLaY THe uKe BeTTeR... =] uR ReaLLii GooD!

  • what note is each string tuned to?

  • This seems to be my own eccentric tuning (one tone above standard uke tuning) ADF#B

  • great! thanks alot

  • nice one

  • cool man thanks alot.

  • i want to buy a pineapple uke now. what is the make of your ukulele?

  • Its a Richwood UK-185

  • just bought the exact same one! cool, never even played one before but always wanted to try and learn

  • Dunno why but I'm really pleased. Funny the things that touch you.

  • Really clear tutorial. Thanks. KEN.

  • WHOAA! This one sounds insane on my electro-mando/uke. Thx a bunch, dude!

  • i live in canada please tell me WHERE CAN A GIT ONE?

  • Mine's from germany. But I got in on location, so it might be a bit pricey to order it straight to canada by mail. (-_-)

There must be someone in canada that would sell or make a smilar instrument for you?

  • on the strum, are you only hitting strings 1,2,3? or all of them

  • It'd be nice if you could just write out what it is, since I have trouble learning visually like this. For example, Down, Thumb, Down, Up, Down, Thumb (except the correct ones) so I could get one loop down.

  • its down, tip, down, tip, up, up, tip, up, down, tip. then do it over again after that

  • this is the best video in the world

  • and the best comment in the world !

  • What is your tuning... correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think its G C E A as is the normal tuning... (quite important to let us know if your doing a tutorial video, dont you think?)

  • The best tuning in the whole world is ADF#B. Enjoy

  • Thanks for that COVEY... (I guess I should have worked it out for myself.... I'm learning all the time!)

  • I just started playing, and your videos have helped me so much thank you. I hope you can put more videos up because they are so nice to play and I feel like I am good when I am in fact no were near your caliber.

  • I am very old and you will be very good when you're three times your age ! I have some postings up my sleeves - keeping watching.

  • Thank you for sharing this.

  • your very good.

  • yo, im gettin one of thos $60 pineapple lanikai ukes for x-mas

  • Ukulele - the least dangerous thing in the world that you can make out of wood and string. Happy Christmas Cougerbat.

  • I have one - it stays in tune very well and sounds great. Very good value.

  • how is your uke tuned? Maybe im being dumb but it seems back to front :-(

    please reply!

  • Yeah...that doesn't sound like a normal tune. I can't make mine make that sound.

  • he said its the 2nd, im not gonna argue with him

  • who's to say what's second best? I think its pretty sweet.

  • it is a really cool strum but i really doubt that it is the second best in the world ;)

  • damn

  • yea you really counted on it being second didn't you :D ;)

  • I did, I did
