You're very strong and the technique is pretty smooth, except that you're not below parallel. Nice work anyway, I know it's completely hard to get to those levels of strength
Squat below parallel by definition is a squat in which your hip joint is below the patella on the lowest point of the movement. It doesn't seem to appear in this one, and a correct full squat is rarely done in powerlifting competitions. Don't get me wrong, I don't think this guy is weak or any other guy who doesn't squat below parallel (if the weight is considerably high), ther eare many strong men in powerlifting competitions. They're just not doing the full range of motion
@Swabolic you have no idea what parallel is. I just watched your squat videos and until you fix your squat form don't offer someone who is clearly an excellent squatter technique advice.
Most of those videos are really old. If you take a look you'll see that except one, all of the videos were uploaded at least a few months ago. My squat is much better now, but it doesn't really matter. The definition of a squat below parallel by Mark Rippetoe is when your hip joint is below the patella on the lowest point of your squat. Again, I'm not underestimating this guy's strength, he is clearly strong and his squat is exactly parallel which isn't that bad (some recommend it)
The weight looked ridiculously easy, as I'm sure it was, but the depth is NOT there for 3 white lights in the USAPL. When you stop the video at the absolute bottom of the hole, you'll notice that the hip crease is higher than the top of the knee.
@gregbaxter54 Can you even hold this weight ass, let alone squat it like he did. Only you know the answer, but dont run ya mouth saying that is not impressive or a "big deal"....it really is.
@mrledrew its part of a system that is used to measure difficulty of the set, RPE (Rate of perceived exertion), 10 meaning you had nothing left, 9 meaning 1, 8.5 like 2-3 and so on.
Always good to see your videos Mike

No disrespect because that is a lot of weight for sure.... But "raw" would be without the belt.
strengthtrain91 9 months ago
@strengthtrain91 o really? then I guess he should take off his shoes and clothes too.... a belt is considered raw in all federations when squatting.
dt76028 9 months ago 6
@strengthtrain91 no, it's not. A belt is allowed in raw. Quit nitpicking, youtube keyboard warrior form police are annoying.

Excellent form; deep, full squat and heavy weight. Good job.

It's a training lift, so it's not a big deal.

what does the @9 mean
mrledrew 3 years ago
It is an estimate of the difficulty of the lift. Part of the RTS system mike developed. 10 means you've got no more left and 1 means it was easy.
iskateco 2 years ago
I was hoping it meant at 90kg (198 lbs)BW.
But his legs looked like they weighed 90KG each....
