If I had money and the amibition, I would buy some crappy old cars, trade them in for a fewer car (with a cash investment), then sell them for regular price - deprecitation months later.
If you could do the math right, you'd make a profit off of the government :-)
If they want to help the environment, there are a ton of better plans. (Not that a plan has to be all that good to be better than the one they came up with).
Give somebody that buys a new car a tax credit. If you buy a $30,000 car you get to claim a deduction for ten or fifteen thousand dollars. You trade your 10 mpg Bronco for a used 18 mpg Explorer, you get maybe a $4000 tax deduction. Don't destroy something to replace it with something new, just because its more efficient. That's stupid!
lmao it's hilarious how keynesians actually think that taking money from the rich to give to the poor so that they can buy something from the rich stimulates the economy lmao i've been studying classical/ austrian economics for only a few months and can see the obvious fallacies in their theories.
The law requires the destruction of the powertrain and parts. This is just as dumb as when the insurance companies had to destroy the cars and parts after Hurricane Katrina. Expect the price of car parts and core fees to skyrocket!
If anyone is for cash for clunkers, smash their windows and then give them a copy of Hazletts Economics in One Lesson with the section on the broken window fallacy bookmarked.
Isn't this kind of the same thing they did during the depression, when dealing with farmers.. and trying to maintain price.. and I'll be damned he mentions it in the video.
Awesome.
You guys must be studiers of Austrian economics..
?!? They didnt say anything that hinted twords austrian economics, Also, htww has mentioned before that he does not follow austrian economics lol. I belive he is more in line with the chicago school.
And I guess I did jump to conclusions about the Austrian economics thing.. because that example during the great depression was used on mises org before.. I got too excited.. V_V'
So taking money from people, through threat of force / prison, is ok with you people. Your organization has turned fascist / socialist now? I bet angry girl does not agree with you people now. Unsubscribing.
Think about the kind of people who drive clunkers: they tend to be poor. So now, the government is encouraging them to get rid of the car that is working for them, and is probably paid for, and to buy a new car that they will be more likely to need to go in to debt in order to buy.
This encourages poor people to take on debt at the worst time.
This program is even bad for the many of the people who get the $4,500!
Cash for Clunkers is a horrible idea. It's $3 billion of our tax dollars down the toilet. Poor working people and students need those so-called "clunkers" that are being destroyed. It's wasteful and bad for the environment.
That was a good analogy about the FDR cotton destruction. FDR prolonged the Depression.
Coal-fired steel plants in China will be melting down the scrap metal from the clunkers. Pollution from China enters the atmosphere and spreads around the entire globe. Cap and trade is all about government control. We have technology to clean the atmosphere.
Top two vehicles sold from this program; Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150.

No, you cannot make a profit off of the government. You can help to rip off taxpayers.

gubment0cheese,
They were kidding. They are being sarcastic. They don't really like the Cash for Clunkers program. You were kidding too, right?

I think understanding basic sarcasms should be a requirement for being subscribed to the channel.

I have a 13" TV from 1992 that is a POS but worked until a few months ago. Obama should give me $500 for it toward a 52" LCD. Cash For Couch-potatoes!
And my neighbor still plays CDs. He needs Cash For IPODs!
Obama sucks, man.
