I'm curious as to how it worked. Could you take a ferry from the US side to Boblo, then a ferry from Boblo to the Canadian side, or vice-versa, thereby sidestepping Customs?
You bought tickets from the Detroit side or the Windsor side, if you could trade a ticket from the other side (different color) you could get on the boat returning to the other side.
From the US side you got on the Columbia or Ste Claire for a 1:30 boat ride to Boblo Island yes the island had customs on it. From Canada you took a small boat to the island.
That was awsome footage. Brings back alot of memories. We would go to Bob lo every year. Living in Kingsville, we would drive to Amherstburg and take the little ferry across. I always wondered what it would have been like to take the big Bob lo Ferry.
Thanks Carol! My Dad had quite a knack of shooting good clips on his very basic Brownie 8mm manual wind up camera. Notice how clean Detroit looked at the time, eh?
Reminds me of the times that I watched my mom get played with under her big skirt...by three drunk men at Bob-Lo island... thank goodness she had a hairy pie like my aunt ediths, as she actually got two of the men to lose their gold rings in her nether regions...the smell of fish was covered by the Detroit River! that allowed us to get a new black and white tv and watch Leave it To Beaver... Mom was always pleasing the men in the neighboorhood. Sincerely, Oprah Winfrey.
You're very welcome. My Dad was a movie takin fan and he took this clip on his old Brownie 8mm manually wound movie camera that you had to guess what settings to put the thing on. The kid in the movie is me, 9 years old. I LOVED goin to Bob-Lo!!
I am from that area. I think it The Ren CEn was started about 1975-1977. It is a building that is something to see. It has a movie theater in it and it is not the headquarters for General Motors.

Like a trip down memory lane. I remember those images of going down the Detroit River like they were yesterday and not all those years ago!
