@germanamericanable "Even your almost sarcastic comparison to an "entrance exam" would give it intrinsic value."
It only has value for Christians as long as they have use for it. Once they have had their way with it, it inherits their imposed nihilism. Except, one might argue, even toilet paper has intrinsic value, until it has been soiled.
Of course this is all almost certainly rhetorical since there is very likely NOT an afterlife in the narrow, self-serving terms of the Abrahamic troika.
It's hard to even comment on how funny these videos r. lil hot bama reading to the camera trying sooo hard to sound smart - to basically say - folk of faith can't see past blinders while the scientic method can & does .Well scientifically speaking she has no proof - funny how atheist claim the method as thier own savior if U will. FActs I only deal & see facts. Love is not a fact.
btw, did you know that moses was a plagiarist and stole the ten commandments from egypts religion to start with? compare with ancient egyptian scrolls.
@germanamericanable "Therefore, even among the most avid and negative Christian fanatics, it can not be said that they view this life as lacking intrinsic value."
Since theists have the luxury of two lives they can indulge in a dogmatic ambivalence to the present.
For people with only one life to live, relegating this life to an entrance exam for the next makes it disposable, an obstacle, and denies it any enduring value in itself. To me that is a sort of temporary, selective nihilism.
@Terncote Just because something is disposable (temporary) in your view does not mean that it lacks some intrinsic value. If to a Christian, people will be judged according to their deeds, of what they have done, and what they have left undone, your attempt to frame it as nihilism is extremely flawed. Even your almost sarcastic comparison to an "entrance exam" would give it intrinsic value. You may be happy with your view, but it's not philosophically correct by any means.
@germanamericanable Yes everything I have learned is based on religion, and no I don't have to worry about religious crap for the simple reason that I see the comparrisons between them, and inturn the futility of their existance. Like when I was a child, I used to be scared when people point out that Jesus or hell was going to judge me. Now I no longer care cause through the study of other religions I realize the nature of what they are and I am no longer accountable to their beliefs.
@JackMeOff7772 Also, she does have a smug attitude, and I can't take that from religious or non-religious. In the larger scheme of things, she's just one of countless people that think they have life figured out and anyone who disagrees is obviously an idiot. I mean, some people are idiots but for various reasons. The theist/atheist idea that one side is rational and the other side irrational is cliche. Most people exhibit both traits in various facets of personality.
@germanamericanable - "Atheists, are not by definition, nihilists, but neither are most Christians. - I'm no nihilist, and I wouldn't assume an atheist is one either unless they specifically said they were."
I agree. My reply to @TruthUnadulterated was intended to demonstrate that with a little sophistry, any label could just as easily be grafted onto Christianity as onto Atheism.
For better or worse, people are who they are, quite apart from any –ism or –anity they adopt.
@Terncote Agreed! I don't think that people who throw around the term "nihilism" truly understand what it actually is, and even more so, the various connotations. So for someone to state that anyone is a nihilist, one has to define what connotation they mean. If someone believes that life lacks any intrinsic value (existential nihilism) than it could be said that there exists a category of atheist nihilists, but they hardly represent a majority, since most atheists find intrinsic value of life.
@Terncote However, it's technically a misnomer to describe Christians as nihilists, since the two greatest commandments (according to Jesus) would be to love God and love thy neighbors as oneself. Therefore, even among the most avid and negative Christian fanatics, it can not be said that they view this life as lacking intrinsic value. Nihilism in all contexts would apply to a specific group of atheists, but cannot be generalized or stereotyped onto the majority.
@Terncote Some theists believe that nihilism is the logical extension of the concept of no objective truth (God).Nihilism is presented in the form of existential nihilism which argues that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. As I said, most atheists would definitely believe that there lives can have purpose and meaning. So the poster was simply name-calling, but the fact does remain that there are atheist nihilists, but not enough to merit stereotyping pejoratively.
why do you people dis this girl...the video states her opinion..stirs up debate amongst people..she doesnt even mention polotics or obama.you call her spiritually imature...hell i was 6 yrs old when i knew there was somthing wrong with what preachers were telling me...if you dont agree state your opinion ,,but you should refrain from personal attack..maybe make your own video see if you do better..
@lowdown476 It's the nature of YT for people to criticize, and that occurs even with music videos, so it's rather naive to expect anything else. Further, the young woman accuses Christians (or Theists in general) of being in a "black hole" (blind) whereas atheists "see" (are enlightened). This is the same dribble that fanatic theists preach, is it not? If you don't agree you're blind, even if you are a Nobel Laureate Physicist (there are about 50). So her statements naturally result in attack.
@lowdown476 Further, I am just not impressed with the attitude that she exudes, as if she's being quite clever, when in reality she rambles and doesn't say anything original, in fact, the opposite is true. She's just spitting out cliches. To criticize her statements (or disagree) is pretty much the same as criticizing her. If you post a video on a subject like this, it goes without saying that there will be responses both pro and con. It comes with the territory, which is Youtube.
@germanamericanable ...many people beleive that in contemplation of nature and in the comunication with other living things , they become aware of some kind of force,,behind this apparent mask which is called god... this was written by a guy who was from a small town close to where i live..it was used as the basis for the force by george lucas in star wars..the guy went on to invent i max theatre ..his name was Roman Kroitor ..may the force be with you
@lowdown476 Actually what you are describing could refer to animism or various other metaphysical beliefs. Baruch Spinoza had a similar belief about God, which was adopted entirely by Einstein. I am not sure whether you are trying to actually make a point (the first part of your post is factual) but the second part of your post seems so abstract I doubt your sincerity. At any rate, I question why your comment would be addressed to me.
@germanamericanable ......kinda weird but i was just thinking someyhing similar to wit ..when does not believing just become a religion.if it consimes all of ones time and thoughts...i would like very much for there to be a god..but i would rather have truth than a god thats not based on facts..my thing is ..i think people would be much better off if they put the time into learning facts than embracing fiction..i appologize if i have offended you..i also just like hacking on people
@lowdown476 Some discussion on matters is fine, and is simply human interaction. However, I do wonder about those individuals who devote their entire YT channels to atheist videos or religious videos. I don't believe that either construct would logically lead to fanaticism and obsession. It seems fruitless and a waste of life. I may comment on this page, but I comment on other pages, and more importantly I live my life. Some people get hooked on causes: Politics, diet, religion, atheism.
If atheists were capitalists and didn't vote blindly the democrat party, I would have more respect for them. But I KNOW, I just know for a fact, this woman is a complete democrat and will vote Obama in 2012. And for that, she is revolting, both emotionally and logically. Voting Obama requires a void of intellectual reasoning, and requires that you abandon logic at the altar of emotional chaos.
Says the guy who's so obsessed with Obama he makes a sock named for him. You think everyone who doesn't agree with you thinks like you do? I don't want to vote for Obama, either. So what are you suggesting? One of the Republicans? Talk about a void of reasoning and abandoning of logic to emotional chaos.
Shall we sing praise songs to the Great IPF? oh Great invisible pink fluctuation! You "farted" and the universe popped into existence. I'll bet $1000.00 this faith filled woman believes in an unproven "Cosmic law" that states 'wherever conditions for life exists, somehow life will squirm out". I'll also bet she believes in advanced benevolent aliens.
@TruthUnadulterated " If God does not exist, then she cannot even RIGHTLY speak of "moral view" as any real ontological thing. Atheism entails no morals."
Farkin' hell - still banging that drum?
Morals are not dependent on the existence of or belief in god(s). Morals predate gods. Morals operate in animals who wisely manifest no interest in scripture.
Morals are a natural, adaptive behaviour for all social creatures, humans included and your attempt to claim a monopoly on them is specious.
@TruthUnadulterated "What I have suggested is that nihilism is the ONLY ULTIMATELY LOGICAL conclusion within ATHEISM."
Well that would be because you have an inaccurate, hostile and conveniently prejudicial view of atheism. So what's new.
The real nihilists are theists. To them real life is worthless and meaningless except as a entrance exam for the afterlife. That's less actually than nihilistic, it's down right pessimistic.
@Terncote Both theists or atheists could be nihilists, based on their views, but the reverse is also true. Atheists, are not by definition, nihilists, but neither are most Christians. Most Christians do not believe that life is worthless and meaningless. I have heard fanatics make comments like that, but it's certainly not the standard view. Let's be fair. I'm no nihilist, and I wouldn't assume an atheist is one either unless they specifically said they were. That too would be their opinion.
@TruthUnadulterated "Being the Beginning and the End, morals exist objectively because He created other conscious beings. God therefore is by definition ABOVE the law."
Typical authoritarian hypocrisy. Do as I write in my story book but not as I do. Except when I tell you to commit genocide and rape etc etc... then you have my blessing.
Good thing that Jehovah is only a figment of too many vacuous imaginations. What an asshole to have as supreme being.
The scientific method has nothing to do with spirit. Atheists and religious people who think it validates or invalidates spirit don't understand what spirit is.
@TheGiantRobot Correct. I pointed out that the Scientific Method was developed by a devout Christian, Sir Francis Bacon, and I got my head bit off by people on this page.
The thing is, back in the day, there was nothing odd about that. When I was growing up, people I knew took spiritual ideas and science both with a grain of salt, and I never heard them compared to each other because they are completely different. Now people have this weird idea of science and religion threatening each other, just like in the dark ages. It's like people's brains have split into black and white.
@TheGiantRobot I know. People seem to polarize everything now to the point of absurdity. It's also kind of ironic how many of the people that go on about "science" aren't scientists and possibly didn't even do well in it in school! It seems to me that both theists and atheist scientists have achieved because of their intellect and creativity, not because of their faith or lack thereof. The fact that people on this page can't even acknowledge that shows obvious bias.
Yeah, and I don't believe this mass polarization is just random. I think it's the result of increased pollution with heavy metals, pesticides, GMOs, fluoridation, pharmaceuticals, government propaganda, media pitches - I think people are essentially being brain damaged, physically and emotionally, to the point that they need simple ideas and authority figures to feel safe. For the right, it's religion or money. For the left, it's atheist celebrities or corporate scientists.
@TheGiantRobot I worry more that it's mass culture. It could be argued that most people have always preferred simple ideas and authority figures, either religious, non-religious. Some people get obsessed with politicians (who are pretty much all fakes spewing rhetoric). So I really can't say that this is something new, but I can say that we've had periods in life where there was more moderation. Perhaps not ideally as much as I would like. Tolerance, too, has taken a back seat these days.
Now for Brownbigb, I hear what your saying but again you haven't thought it through entirely. To say that God could have objective morals is a a prosteriori logical contradiction. So how then could He even have subjective (sub-objective) morals? God presides over His law that reflects His nature, therefore God is not accountable to anyone. Being the Beginning and the End, morals exist objectively because He created other conscious beings. God therefore is by definition ABOVE the law.
Ok. Tha's alot of feedback! 1. Starting with Michael, i have read and studied EVERYONE of those philosophers and none of them precludes what I wrote. Nice try. Also, pls no red herrings. i never suggested that "nihilism is a necessary consequence of disbelief" or that most or even ANY atheists are necessarily nihilists. What I have suggested is that nihilism is the ONLY ULTIMATELY LOGICAL conclusion within ATHEISM. I would even say, MOST atheists are inconsistent here by not thinking it through.
This video about Christians "moral view is it's own black hole" is tremendously ironic coming from one who does not even belive in God's existence. If God does not exist, then she cannot even RIGHTLY speak of "moral view" as any real ontological thing. Atheism entails no morals. You can be an atheist with morals, sure, as every Christian would agree no doubt. But the category called atheism leaves no room for morals. Therefore, she is an inconsistent atheist to even use the word for her sake.
@TruthUnadulterated Tell you what. Try this exercise. Go to a grocery store and visit the produce aisle. Pick up an apple. Look around at all of the people who work in that store. Try to imagine how many people it took to bring that apple to that bin in that store. If you can see the thousands it took to bring that apple, you can see that we depend upon each other for our lives and well-being. That dependence is the beginning of a framework for morality.
@micheal49 Hi Michael49, thanks for the reply. But even this doesn't deal with what you set out to prove. One could say that this amirable to some or even most people, but from atheism, that's as far as it goes--preferences of individuals that make up societies. Hitler could use this exact same logic for his mass killing of innocents thinking it good for society as in fact he did profess. There's more to the proofs but ultimately u have a choice: God, so morals; or no God, nihilism.
@TruthUnadulterated There are absolutist moral codes that do not depend upon a divine being telling people what to do. Try reading Plato's Republic, Hobbes' Leviathan, and the moral and ethical philosophies of Rousseau, Hume, Locke, Kant, Sartre, Bosanquet, and Rawls. PS: Your last sentence is a false dilemma. Nihilism is not a necessary consequence of disbelief. None of the atheists I know are nihilists. Get back with me after reading the above authors.
@TruthUnadulterated god does not explain objective morals. it can only explain god's subjective morals. whatever god decides. you are right, atheism has nothing to do with morals. indeed. nothing to do with nihilism either. it simply has to do with not accepting the belief that there is a god. everything else is outside the scope of atheism.
@brownbigb Well who decides what the "scope" of atheism is? Atheism leads to other thoughts and views, one of which would be the nature and significance of morality, and I think this is proven by the number of leading atheists that debate the very topic since atheism as a construct necessitates an examination of the implications of atheism as it relates to morality, which is no small matter or subject. I do agree that atheism need not be equated with nihilism.
@germanamericanable the scope of atheism is the lack of belief in deity(s). it is not a belief system. of course atheists have other thoughts, but those are separate from being an atheist, and different atheists have very different ideas on other issues. it is a mistake to try to make atheism more than what it is, and to say that it necessarily includes ideas about morality or anything else. the atheist will necessarily have views and thoughts on morality and many other topics of course.
@brownbigb I never stated anything to the contrary. Of course there are different types of atheists, all with various views about life. The point is that the question of morality is a logical extension to atheism which AGAIN, is why so many leading atheists debate the topic (Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins). I don't believe in making atheism or theism more than it is, so I don't think you understood my point. It wasn't as you described.
@germanamericanable....but i guess that is also my oppinion on copps and just people in general....tho i suppose i only feel that way about people sometimss
@lowdown476 Sometimes I don't feel like having people around. But the most irritating people, to me, are the ones that HAVE TO TRY TO FORCE YOU TO BELIEVE OR THINK EXACTLY as they do or else they make themselves insufferable. I call these people "fanatics". I think most civilized, intelligent people get along fine, without having to debate everything with everyone. The difference is that I have met atheists equally as "preachy" as "religious fanatics". There are fanatics on both sides I think.
@germanamericanable....here is my veiw of religous fanatics....its not that i hate religous fanatics...i just feel better when theres none around.....
Those evil new atheists... aren't as evil as the moderates make them out to be. They are just perceived as rude. fritanke.no/index.php?page=vis_nyhet&NyhetID=8483
I think you are also a "biased atheist" or whatever because not all Christians are like that. I am Christian and I honestly could care less if you believe in God or not. I also believe in a lot science has to offer. I use science to back up a lot of any of my statements. But anyway, in the end, its like, your life man. DIY=FIUY :D
@tyshi00 I absolutely agree with you and I am amazed by the number of people on this page that simply can't tolerate that attitude. They are as resentful, condemning, and prejudice as the worst fundamentalists. They push insults as if they are facts without any reality to them. There are plenty of religious people that are not blind followers, examine their faith, are educated, and high functioning. Many are courageous and honorable. It's just prejudice by radicals.Atheists and Christians vary.
@meaninter03 Thanks for taking the time to put that obnoxious christian apologist, germanamericanable, in his place. The latter part of the debate was interesting - his shrill defense of christianity is reduced to name-calling and mischaracterizations of what you and other people were saying.
@GreenLantern1916 That was after hours of this woman just trying to pick a fight posting comments on every thing I said, even simple factual statements. She also put words in my mouth and had quite a few insults of her own. As for putting me in my place, she did not. All she did was spend hours arguing and bragging about being angry and sometimes trolls get under your skin. It was a complete waste of time. You're biased because she's an atheist. I posted many rational and objective posts.
@GreenLantern1916 The insults I posted (probably all in the last 15 minutes or so of being on the web were just because she wouldn't stop and I no longer took her seriously and considered the matter a waste of time which I regretted. Three atheists sent me nice Private Messages agreeing with me and advising me to ignore them which I should have done. As for obnoxious, she started out with an attitude bringing up many topics that I had never even commented on and projecting erroneous notions.
@GreenLantern1916 Further, despite the radicals that could not respond to my facts about the many brilliant theistic scientists, there were people on the page that agreed with me and there were times that I conceded and agreed with various points by atheists. She acknowledged no facts and conceded nothing. That's obnoxious! Have a nice day.
Yanno, this ...confuses me. In all atheist v theist debates, you wind up with the self identified agnostics/middle of the road guys, disparaging both sides....because their position is...inherently superior. They follow through with simple (and simplistic) logic to their inerrant position...which is one of ...what?
Either they'll say that the debate is meaningless (in which case...why join it?) or they're...trolling? And online, we all troll.
@meaninter03 Every single comment you made last night on this page was just insult and ranting diatribe. You project you're own behavior on to others. Did it ever occur to you that some people criticize both sides because both sides have fanatics? Further, there are several comments on this page by people stating the exact same thing as I did and you simply focused on me. You had nothing to do but fight and I was foolish enough to fall for it, which was, I believe, your intention all along.
@meaninter03 It's your fault that you're an obsessive compulsive nut job that spends your time neurotically posting on all of my comments, even if they are not addressed to you. Other people on this page have not done that, only YOU. I have actually agreed with many atheist comments on here and stated so. You can't be objective, you're just sour and you sound stupid. You say nothing that sounds intelligent. Why don't you just bugger off? I am not interested in anymore of your comments.
@meaninter03 Go ahead. Prove yourself to be a neurotic troll instead of just moving on to other people's opinions. All you do is project your own arrogance with absolutely no intellect or facts to back up what you say.
@germanamericanable My intent was to show that your vaunted precious objectivism was but a shallow veneer of shit. You showed exactly how objective you cannot be.
To add, Buddhism is about finding answers, and asking questions. Many religions purport the answers up front, give a rule book in advance (that dates back thousands of years) and if people donät follow the rules, they are wrong, and if others don't follow the rules, they become the enemy, please... I think this is dangerous! How can we ever all be at peace with this mentality?
@germanamericanable I am not saying scientists are all pure and angelic (take the angel of Death, Josef Mengel as a counter example). I would say that the Vatican city is about power and money, control of the people. This is not to say that believing in God, and having faith is bad, (small, local caring religious communities I think are amazing, they demonstrate what I think religion should really be about), but paying so much money, and having a guy with so much power, I think it is scary.
This girls videos are entertaining...there nonoffensive...they are informative,to,if nothing else her point of veiw....they open a debate amongst some people.....get people to think ....so if for only the listed reasons....she makes good videos
@GreenLantern1916 On this we agree. I am every bit as turned off by religious people that ignore science as any atheist. All I have tried to do, mostly to no avail, was to point out that there are a variety of Christians and many of them have proven themselves to be geniuses in the fields of science and technology. An atheist would be offended by stereotypes, so naturally so would a theist. I'm surprised that people on this page can't acknowledge that, but the atheists I have met in life do.
@germanamericanable....pont taken i should have didrected my comment at people weho dont get sarcasm....cause all kinds of people dont get sarcasm....christians
athiests musslims...im just glad i do cause thats a pretty funny video....and it doesnt matter what you beleive funny is funny
@lowdown476 I like good sarcasm and I also like irony. Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) is pretty entertaining with that. So is Ricky Gervais.
I swear to fucking christ, it better have been below freezing where you live because those mams are what keeps your video alive. One more time and its over broad.
Science is the search for truth. Christians say that evolution is a theology to some but I disagree. If there came new scientific information that evolution was wrong then evolution would be disproven and we would move on. Despite overwhelming evidence that the bible is not the inerrant word of God Christians will not accept it. It's hard to have a debate with someone that will not recognize evidence and accept it into their thought process. Thanks for your video.
@RuleofFive This is the same stereotype down the whole page. A MINORITY of Christians (fundamentalists) are creationists. MOST CHRISTIANS ON THIS PLANET BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION AND THEY BELIEVE IN WHAT WE KNOW RIGHT NOW ABOUT THE BIG BANG> HECK I CHECK THE NEWS ABOUT THE LARGE HADRON COLLIDER all of the time. I LOVE SCIENCE and other religious people (including scientists do too). Why don't you say "Creationists". Why do you wrongly stereotype all Christians as being like that.
@germanamericanable I'm not saying every last Christian believes the same thing. I look at many things that concern me about Christianity: women take a back seat, no birth control, homophobia, intelligent design, George W. Bush saying God told him to invade Iraq, the world is only 6000 years old, genocide ordered by God in the bible, misogyny in the bible, human sacrifice in the bible. I don't say Creationists because my concerns are about broader issues with Christians.
@RuleofFive Most Christians do not believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God. They believe that the Bible is inspired by God. The idea of biblical inerrancy is actually a fairly new belief that developed in Europe (strangely by the Methodists) and was brought to the US. Lutherans don't believe the Bible is inerrant because we study it and know it has errors in it. Further, Genesis was NEVER supposed to have been taken literally. Augustine heavily criticized Christians for doing so.
Projection is a bitch! You see, thiests love to accuse athiests of all of the negative actions that they have been doing for centuries. Without the threat of force or social stigmatism, their dogmas don't hold up to scrutiny. When all else fails, the sheeple have nothing to cling to except faith. The same faith that is use by "Religions, Inc" and now "Politics Inc." to advance their agendas. The "faithful" will follow even against their own interests because a "holy" book "tells" them so.
@DAngelo136 And many ignorant and inarticulate atheists simply rely on ad hominem and vulgar name calling. It kills me that only a few people on this page could concede that there are radicals on each side, despite the fact that many prominent atheists agree with that. Some atheists also love to state their bigoted beliefs without any facts, they just spew enmity/animosity, just like retarded fundamentalists. They also stereotype and judge. Fanatics share similar personalities despite beliefs.
@germanamericanable In all of the threads that I have read, the athiests have been far more polite than the theists. Disclosure: I am athiest. Now, as a practice I refrain from ad hominem attacks and name calling. I don't say anything online that I wouldn't say to anyone's face and I stand by what I posted. Many Christians do indeed believe that the bible is the inerrent and infalible word of god and their duty to spread that word regardless of the opinions of others
@DAngelo136 I'll go further. Even the non-extremists, by virtue of their beliefs, support the extremists by validating the beliefs. Religion is a social phenomenon.
@DAngelo136 You can validly say "many" because there are a lot of people in this country. My intent was to point out that they are actually a minority, but you don't hear about the educated, peaceful Christians because they don't generally fight or argue the issue, which is why I mentioned a number of mainline denominations that are totally opposite of fundamentalists. Most fundamentalists do not study the Bible in a scholarly way, and you're right, some seem to ignorantly worship it.
@DAngelo136 Have you actually taken the time to read down through the comments on this page. They reveal the exact opposite of your assertion. Many atheists insist on spreading their word regardless of the opinions of others. To me, Bill Maher is every bit as much of a harpie and a blowhard as Bill O'Reilly. It's very telling that even a moderate view is heavily criticized on this page.
"Many atheists insist on spreading their word regardless of the opinions of others."
Funny that you claim not to be biased but here you show that you are biased;
Most atheist don't care about religion and don't care about spreading the word.
Most atheists don't care about what you believe.
The actions of atheists are an allergic reaction to many years of religious people trying to undermine science with pure BS claims. It is a stand against ID.
@meaninter03 You're an idiot with My comment was in response to someone making that clam about religious people, stereotyping all of them together. I have consistently stated that people in both camps do that, which is not bias at all. It's literally objective because I've seen both sides. If my comment claimed that ONLY atheists did that, or ALL atheists did that, THEN it would be biased. GET A DICTIONARY. You're also mental for obsessing on anything I type. Mental case. Seek help.
@obaeyens My comment was in response to someone making that clam about religious people, stereotyping all of them together. I have consistently stated that people in both camps do that, which is not bias at all. It's literally objective because I've seen both sides. If my comment claimed that ONLY atheists did that, or ALL atheists did that, THEN it would be biased. GET A DICTIONARY. Stupid comment. As if Lutherans constantly preach to people. Bullshit.
Ignoring that you all share the same basic notions...namely a belief in nothing, which you claim is something...but you can't agree what it is (because you're trying to define nothing as something, and insisting on adding telling details).
@meaninter03 Are you retarded? Lutherans don't claim to be the possessors of the whole truth. I only used them as one of many denominations whose MEMBERS DON"T FORCE THEIR BELIEFS ON PEOPLE OR SOCIETY. SERIOUSLY< ARE YOU TOTALLY INCAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING THE ACTUAL POINT OF WHAT SOMEONE IS SAYING, RATHER THAN TRY TO REWORD IT INTO AN ALTOGETHER DIFFERENT STATEMENT THAT I DID NOT MAKE NOR BELIEVE? You seriously are a joke.
@meaninter03 blah blah blah. I've had similar exchanges with nutcase fundamentalists and you have MORE THAN PROVEN MY POINT. You are the prime example of a fanatic dipshit that can't deal with facts, and can't even deal with a topic. You almost intentionally misconstrue and REWORD what I say to mischaracterize my statements. You're as absurd as Pat Robertson and he's pretty fucking retarded.
You've been presented with facts, but, you lie. About the evil new atheism, and about atheism in general.
Like I said, douche. YES, THERE ARE THEISTS WHO ARE SCIENTISTS. THEY REFUSE OR ARE INCAPABLE OF USING THEIR REASON ON THE FALSEHOODS OF RELIGION. DOUCHE.
@obaeyens I am extremely critical of fanatics. I would tell you that it's rare for me to even visit a post this much. There are many great intellectual debates by much more articulate people to watch and if you bothered to check my channel you'd see that I don't dwell on atheist or religious sites. I haven't criticized anyone for being an atheist. I criticized people who love stereotypes, which are for the weak minded, whether they are about race, orientation, creed, whatever.
@obaeyens I have to say I am amazed by the number of people who have sent me comments that have NOTHING to do with what I posted or actually said, particularly that nutcase meaninter03 who is every bit as absurd and crazy as Jerry Falwell. She's more interested in rewording my statements into completely different things that I never stated nor believe. Also, if you read all my comments you'd see that I have many times agreed with atheist posters stating so adamantly. .
@germanamericanable For centuries, theists have imposed their beliefs and values either by force or social stigma for those who disagreed or deviated. Now that those options are no longer available, religion has to stand to the test of reason. And now athiests are pushing back much to the chagrin of theists. Indeed it has been the theists who have been the more obnoxious and engaging in ad hominem attacks.
@DAngelo136 Actually, I agree with the first part of your comment because I am very familiar with Christian history, (history in general). I would point out that non-religious people have done the same (Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao). My original posts criticized people who FORCE their beliefs on people with scorn and enmity. As for atheists "pushing back" there are about 4 or 5 major classifications of atheist and they self-admittedly disagree about strategy. Many atheists criticize Dawkins tactics.
@meaninter03 In terms of tactics and antagonism, Dawkins has been heavily criticized by many very notable atheist intellectuals and leaders including James Wood, H. Allan Orr, Terry Eagleton. He's been criticized by liberal (atheist friendly) publications in the New York Times, London Review of Books, and even the New Republic. My god I know more about atheism than you do. I give up. You're uneducated and you are the last person to talk about facts.
@meaninter03 I don't have to make up anything. I am an educated adult who realizes that facts are much more powerful than petty deceit. Your false statements about me are deceitful, I've provided way more facts than you and when you do try to state facts, you get them wrong. I''m not going to waste anymore time on you. You're just one more clueless uneducated simple minded person on Youtube, just like a fundamentalist. Even atheists have referred to "New Atheism" as "Fundamentalist Atheism".
@germanamericanable Athiests are a minority within the United States, if not worldwide. Until Madlyn Murray O'Hair happened along, being athiest would be bad for your health and your livlihood. Even today, open athiests can't run for public office and many Black athiests are are reluctant to come out due to family and peer pressure. In the military, you might very well be taking risks with your life because of the faith of your fellow soldiers who may disagree with you.
@DAngelo136 I agree with you. Why do you keep talking to me as if I am against atheists? I am not and have said so repeatedly. I am against stigmatizing theists or atheists and atheists have been mistreated. I may defend religion, but if I had to choose between two presidential candidates, I would vote against fundamentalists. I am not stigmatizing atheists, I am saying its wrong to stereotype, insult and stigmatize theists, particularly since so many have contributed so much to civilization.
@germanamericanable So many have contributed because it was deadly to be an atheist. If you bias the numbers in your favor, of course you're gonna get the lion's share of accomplishments. Ignore that point, why don't you. Ignore the oppression, ignore the facts. You are, after all, religious. You're supposed to.
@meaninter03 Again, it wasn't my point to claim theists were superior scientists. I simply offered proof that just because someone is a theist, doesn't mean they can't be brilliant scientists, which I PROVED. You babbling about "biasing numbers' is not even any point that I said. YOU ARE TRULY INCAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING THE MOST BASIC STATEMENTS AND ALL YOU DO IS TWIST MY WORDS OR IMPLY I SAID OR BELIEVE THINGS THAT ARE COMPLETELY ERRONEOUS. Is this how you get off because you're an ass.
@germanamericanable I have yet to hear any athiests trying to convert people or imposing their beliefs upon anyone else. Pol Pot, Mao and Stalin were also Marxists so their lack of belief in god has less to do with their acts than their political ideology, which I might add would be antithetical to the ideas of Karl Marx, so I reject your examples. For the most part Prof.Dawkins has been very civil about his athiesm and I have yet to read or hear of any criticism of his
@meaninter03 I know. Theists forget about religious wars and especially the Third Reich whose soldiers wore on their belts "Gott Mit Uns" (God Is With Us).
@meaninter03 All communist nations have persecuted religion since atheism is a central aspect of communism. You're also wrong (again) about Pol Pot. Not only did he persecute the religious, he persecuted (and killed) anyone that he even considered intellectual. Stalin's murder of the religious is documented in Solzhenitsyns Gulag Archipelago. How you could so lightly dismiss millions of deaths so easily is just further evidence that you aren't rational. I notice you glossed over Mao. STUPID'
@meaninter03 Just another ridiculous person that will blame religion for atrocities but try to disown atrocities created by atheists, atrocities which far out number those by theists. As with scientists, there are good leaders and bad leaders, both theist and atheist. You want to pretend there is this big difference between atheists and theists when in reality, people are people. I'm done because this is a waste of time, you're clueless and there are much more intelligent people to dialogue
@germanamericanable No, you idiot. Yes, some of those people were atheists and did horrible things...but they didn't do them in the name of atheism, or because atheism dictated it. Whereas, even today religion harms because of religious dicktates. Religion is keeping condoms outta Africa (thanks, Pope). Leviticus is used to deny rights to gay people and medical care to myriads (where ONE is too many). But, sure, drag down atheists to your level.
@germanamericanable What atrocities by atheists? Were they done in the name of atheism? Obviously not.
Let's ignore the god like cult of the Kims in Korea, and that communism was treated like a religion in the USSR. Ignore the references to Christ that Hitler made in his Mein Kampf, and, sure, totally atheist.
@DAngelo136 Wrong. I just listed like 4 very notable leading atheist intellectuals that have started to harshly criticize Dawkins and I also listed a variety of atheist friendly publications that have run articles criticizing him for various reasons. You can google it for yourself. I said nothing absolutely nothing about Karl Marx. The murder of millions of people (acts) is certainly more significant than ideology, particularly if ideology contributes to the acts. That's not even a logical.
@germanamericanable I am not dragging down atheists. Are you incapable of understanding the sentence that there are fanatics in both camps. I have said it like 50 times. There are fanatics in both camps, and both have the same type personality (Yours) and rely more on ad hominem than facts. You were wrong about Dawkins, wrong about theists being scientists. I dislike you because you're stupid if not crazy and twist what I say on every single comment. It's not atheists that I have a problem with.
@DAngelo136 You know, I discuss many topics on Youtube and you can see for yourself on my page that I do. This is my second day on here and it's been fruitless. I can tell you in all absolute truth that there are far more intellectual atheist posts, with intelligent atheists being far more rational and making much more thought-provoking statements than this low brow waste of time. I tried to be nice but everyone that has posted to me has commented on everything BUT religious scientists (topic).
@germanamericanable "tactics". Athiests are not monolithic, we have diverse views on many other things. But we agree on one thing: we do not believe in the existence of supreme beings. Whether you call him "Yahweh", "Allah","God", "Zeus","Ra", "Jah" or "Odin" we do not believe in it. Period. Ours is a minority opinion, we understand, but it and we deserve as much respect as the opposing view.
@DAngelo136 I never said otherwise. Again, you're going on about things that I never disputed or criticized. What's the point of messaging me if you're just going to diatribe over things and topics that I never disputed. I don't have a problem with atheists, I have a problem with fanatics and have repeatedly said they exist in both camps. HOW FUCKING DIFFICULT IS THAT FOR YOU TO UNDERSTAND? I've even agreed with you on some points. You seem to ignore that fact as well. How transparent.
@germanamericanable First of all, don't use profanity, it's offensive. Secondly, you're confirming what I've just said. You must not read your previous comments; I did. You profess one thing then another, depending on whom you're addressing; that is disingenous and self serving. Now while I did say that this is a "contact" sport, don't get carried away. It would seem that you have become what you say you detest: an extremist. "Physician, heal thyself".
@DAngelo136 I would also agree that it is good for society to lighten up on atheists and be more tolerant. I know TONS of people that don't seem to have any particular spiritual beliefs, but they don't refer to themselves as atheists because the word has the connotation of preachy people, just like fundamentalists. That connotation is a stereotype and I stated repeatedly that I don't like stereotypes, they are inherently stupid because of human diversity.
@germanamericanable So you and "others" don't like the word "athiest"? Who's being "preachy" here? Reading the previous posts it would seem that others are accusing you of such. Which would confirm what my original post contended: that theists accuse athiests of the actions they themselves commit. (sniff) I smell some projection here.
@DAngelo136 Moutains out of molehills. My posts started because I thought that the saying "all Christians are blind like being in a black hole" was a stereotypical and condescending statement. I further pointed out that there are at least 50 Nobel Laureates in Science alone, many are the giants if Physics. There are atheists that simply don't believe in God, and there are ones that have to force their opinions with an absolutism every bit as "in your face' as fundamentalists. That's just fact.
@DAngelo136 The only other comment that I would offer to you is that two wrongs don't make a right. There are civil, intelligent, articulate atheists that make valid points, and I've listened and read a lot of debates. But there are different ways to go about things, and I think that the "new atheists' as they are called tend to be non-intellectual and similar to fundamentalists. You may not agree, but it's still not a vitriolic opinion on my part, and many very public atheists agree.
@germanamericanable Did you just stereotype a whole group of people that you disagree with as being unintellectual? Whilst offering nothing substantial to back up your claim? Why, isn't stereotyping something you despise?
@meaninter03 If you're so "right" why do you try so hard to twist my words. I said "There are civil, intelligent, articulate atheists that make valid points, and I've listened and read a lot of debates." I do believe that most of the fanatics tend to be less intellectual and more vitriolic. The same is true with any type of fanatics. How you can misconstrue that is beyond me, since I don't agree with atheists, but stated many make valid points, and are intelligent and articulate. your problem?
@germanamericanable Look in the marketplace of ideas, there is going to be some high emotions. This is not a tea party, its the pitch and this is a contact sport. For the most part, it's somewhat reasonable, but don't expect the Marquis of Queensbury rules to be observed here.
@DAngelo136 You really need not lecture me about the nature of Youtube. My only mistake was giving this more time than it was worth, and I believe my comments about more intellectual atheists being more moderate still holds true. I have already listed several prominent atheist intellectuals and publications who hold similar views on the fanatics. So we're down to a difference in opinion, but mine is shared by many atheists. So I'm just going to agree to disagree because you and meaninter03 twist
@DAngelo136 ..twist words. Most of this evolved because I was foolish enough to respond to blurred topics or different topics. I think your bias is showing so feel free to project it on me all you want. Basically I moved on from this page and I'm not really interested or impressed with your comments. I did at least agree with some points you made, but you and meaninter03 (the "angry atheist") can't concede anyone else's points but your own or those who agree with you.
I even drink "black hole" energy drink. It energizes you sooo much, you can rifts in reality and use them as instant transportation. Saves a fortune on bus fare.
By the way, what's wrong with black holes? I think black holes have a bad rep for no reason. Have you ever gone black hole surfing? It's a rush! Every time I go fishing in black holes, I always catch something with tentacles and one eye. I could go squidding off of the Monterrey Bay and never get catches like that, ever!
Observation is simply knowing what you see without having your mind automatically include or preclude any details. Awareness is defined here as the ability to catch yourself falling on a preconditioned assumption.
I'll have to disagree with you a bit on this. The scientific method only allows us to figure out what works and what doesn't. The key to understanding reality is observation and awareness.
@NeoDarkArckan And imagination. There were heliocentric theories about the sun long before there was anyway to scientifically prove it. Humans have a creative ability that often leads them to invention or discovery faster than science. My father was a very, very successful engineer. He designed many things that Westinghouse patented. He joked with me once that looking back he doesn't know how he thought it up. Things would just pop into his head.
@germanamericanable As an inventor, Magik user and artist I have the same experiences frequently. However that is the active part of science and it has a foundation in heavily accumulated facts of nature and how materials work and interact with each other as well as having a good instinctive feel for how things come together.
@germanamericanable The passive part of science is called "Natural Science" which is simply observing and record. The Science which applies the scientific method is called "Empirical Science".
Everything you say about Christians, could be applied to you. In one breath you are criticizing a Christian for allegedly not understanding what it means to be an atheist and think that's disrespectful, then you go on to say that ALL CHRISTIANS ARE IN A BLACK HOLE AND CAN"T SEE REALITY which is EXACTLY WHAT FUNDAMENTALISTS SAY. You're both ego driven personalities that have to make yourself feel better by disparaging your opposition and that makes you feel superior. Very transparent and weak.

And as with your other video, your little "rants" touch on different topics with very little continuity so you never really make any kind of substantive major point. Just little prejudice remarks. For every Christian that may be disrespectful to an atheist, there are atheists that are condescending, arrogant, insulting and vain. Particularly the ones that talk about science when they actually got shit for grades in science or never studied it. Your stereotyping is just as bad as a fundamentalist

Terncote 1 week ago
@Terncote Just because something is disposable (temporary) in your view does not mean that it lacks some intrinsic value. If to a Christian, people will be judged according to their deeds, of what they have done, and what they have left undone, your attempt to frame it as nihilism is extremely flawed. Even your almost sarcastic comparison to an "entrance exam" would give it intrinsic value. You may be happy with your view, but it's not philosophically correct by any means.

Terncote 1 week ago
@Terncote Agreed! I don't think that people who throw around the term "nihilism" truly understand what it actually is, and even more so, the various connotations. So for someone to state that anyone is a nihilist, one has to define what connotation they mean. If someone believes that life lacks any intrinsic value (existential nihilism) than it could be said that there exists a category of atheist nihilists, but they hardly represent a majority, since most atheists find intrinsic value of life.
germanamericanable 1 week ago
@Terncote However, it's technically a misnomer to describe Christians as nihilists, since the two greatest commandments (according to Jesus) would be to love God and love thy neighbors as oneself. Therefore, even among the most avid and negative Christian fanatics, it can not be said that they view this life as lacking intrinsic value. Nihilism in all contexts would apply to a specific group of atheists, but cannot be generalized or stereotyped onto the majority.
germanamericanable 1 week ago
@Terncote Some theists believe that nihilism is the logical extension of the concept of no objective truth (God).Nihilism is presented in the form of existential nihilism which argues that life is without objective meaning, purpose, or intrinsic value. As I said, most atheists would definitely believe that there lives can have purpose and meaning. So the poster was simply name-calling, but the fact does remain that there are atheist nihilists, but not enough to merit stereotyping pejoratively.

So her statements naturally result in attack.
germanamericanable 1 week ago
@lowdown476 Further, I am just not impressed with the attitude that she exudes, as if she's being quite clever, when in reality she rambles and doesn't say anything original, in fact, the opposite is true. She's just spitting out cliches. To criticize her statements (or disagree) is pretty much the same as criticizing her. If you post a video on a subject like this, it goes without saying that there will be responses both pro and con. It comes with the territory, which is Youtube.

What a bunch of buzz killers.
Terncote 1 week ago
@Terncote Both theists or atheists could be nihilists, based on their views, but the reverse is also true. Atheists, are not by definition, nihilists, but neither are most Christians. Most Christians do not believe that life is worthless and meaningless. I have heard fanatics make comments like that, but it's certainly not the standard view. Let's be fair. I'm no nihilist, and I wouldn't assume an atheist is one either unless they specifically said they were. That too would be their opinion.

TheGiantRobot 1 week ago
@TheGiantRobot I know. People seem to polarize everything now to the point of absurdity. It's also kind of ironic how many of the people that go on about "science" aren't scientists and possibly didn't even do well in it in school! It seems to me that both theists and atheist scientists have achieved because of their intellect and creativity, not because of their faith or lack thereof. The fact that people on this page can't even acknowledge that shows obvious bias.
germanamericanable 1 week ago
@germanamericanable
TheGiantRobot 1 week ago
@TheGiantRobot I worry more that it's mass culture. It could be argued that most people have always preferred simple ideas and authority figures, either religious, non-religious. Some people get obsessed with politicians (who are pretty much all fakes spewing rhetoric). So I really can't say that this is something new, but I can say that we've had periods in life where there was more moderation. Perhaps not ideally as much as I would like. Tolerance, too, has taken a back seat these days.
germanamericanable 1 week ago
Now for Brownbigb, I hear what your saying but again you haven't thought it through entirely. To say that God could have objective morals is a a prosteriori logical contradiction. So how then could He even have subjective (sub-objective) morals? God presides over His law that reflects His nature, therefore God is not accountable to anyone. Being the Beginning and the End, morals exist objectively because He created other conscious beings. God therefore is by definition ABOVE the law.
TruthUnadulterated 1 week ago
TruthUnadulterated 1 week ago
This video about Christians "moral view is it's own black hole" is tremendously ironic coming from one who does not even belive in God's existence. If God does not exist, then she cannot even RIGHTLY speak of "moral view" as any real ontological thing. Atheism entails no morals. You can be an atheist with morals, sure, as every Christian would agree no doubt. But the category called atheism leaves no room for morals. Therefore, she is an inconsistent atheist to even use the word for her sake.
TruthUnadulterated 2 weeks ago
@TruthUnadulterated Tell you what. Try this exercise. Go to a grocery store and visit the produce aisle. Pick up an apple. Look around at all of the people who work in that store. Try to imagine how many people it took to bring that apple to that bin in that store. If you can see the thousands it took to bring that apple, you can see that we depend upon each other for our lives and well-being. That dependence is the beginning of a framework for morality.
micheal49 2 weeks ago
@micheal49 Hi Michael49, thanks for the reply. But even this doesn't deal with what you set out to prove. One could say that this amirable to some or even most people, but from atheism, that's as far as it goes--preferences of individuals that make up societies. Hitler could use this exact same logic for his mass killing of innocents thinking it good for society as in fact he did profess. There's more to the proofs but ultimately u have a choice: God, so morals; or no God, nihilism.
TruthUnadulterated 1 week ago
@TruthUnadulterated There are absolutist moral codes that do not depend upon a divine being telling people what to do. Try reading Plato's Republic, Hobbes' Leviathan, and the moral and ethical philosophies of Rousseau, Hume, Locke, Kant, Sartre, Bosanquet, and Rawls. PS: Your last sentence is a false dilemma. Nihilism is not a necessary consequence of disbelief. None of the atheists I know are nihilists. Get back with me after reading the above authors.
micheal49 1 week ago
@TruthUnadulterated god does not explain objective morals. it can only explain god's subjective morals. whatever god decides. you are right, atheism has nothing to do with morals. indeed. nothing to do with nihilism either. it simply has to do with not accepting the belief that there is a god. everything else is outside the scope of atheism.
brownbigb 1 week ago
@brownbigb Well who decides what the "scope" of atheism is? Atheism leads to other thoughts and views, one of which would be the nature and significance of morality, and I think this is proven by the number of leading atheists that debate the very topic since atheism as a construct necessitates an examination of the implications of atheism as it relates to morality, which is no small matter or subject. I do agree that atheism need not be equated with nihilism.
germanamericanable 1 week ago
@germanamericanable the scope of atheism is the lack of belief in deity(s). it is not a belief system. of course atheists have other thoughts, but those are separate from being an atheist, and different atheists have very different ideas on other issues. it is a mistake to try to make atheism more than what it is, and to say that it necessarily includes ideas about morality or anything else. the atheist will necessarily have views and thoughts on morality and many other topics of course.
brownbigb 1 week ago
@brownbigb I never stated anything to the contrary. Of course there are different types of atheists, all with various views about life. The point is that the question of morality is a logical extension to atheism which AGAIN, is why so many leading atheists debate the topic (Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins). I don't believe in making atheism or theism more than it is, so I don't think you understood my point. It wasn't as you described.

There are fanatics on both sides I think.

tyshi00 2 weeks ago
@tyshi00 I absolutely agree with you and I am amazed by the number of people on this page that simply can't tolerate that attitude. They are as resentful, condemning, and prejudice as the worst fundamentalists. They push insults as if they are facts without any reality to them. There are plenty of religious people that are not blind followers, examine their faith, are educated, and high functioning. Many are courageous and honorable. It's just prejudice by radicals.Atheists and Christians vary.

@germanamericanable If you examine your faith...and still wind up believing...then you're not being honest with yourself. Or the facts.
It has nothing to do with this courage you impute anyone.

@meaninter03 Thanks for taking the time to put that obnoxious christian apologist, germanamericanable, in his place. The latter part of the debate was interesting - his shrill defense of christianity is reduced to name-calling and mischaracterizations of what you and other people were saying.
GreenLantern1916 2 weeks ago
@GreenLantern1916 That was after hours of this woman just trying to pick a fight posting comments on every thing I said, even simple factual statements. She also put words in my mouth and had quite a few insults of her own. As for putting me in my place, she did not. All she did was spend hours arguing and bragging about being angry and sometimes trolls get under your skin. It was a complete waste of time. You're biased because she's an atheist. I posted many rational and objective posts.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@GreenLantern1916 The insults I posted (probably all in the last 15 minutes or so of being on the web were just because she wouldn't stop and I no longer took her seriously and considered the matter a waste of time which I regretted. Three atheists sent me nice Private Messages agreeing with me and advising me to ignore them which I should have done. As for obnoxious, she started out with an attitude bringing up many topics that I had never even commented on and projecting erroneous notions.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@GreenLantern1916 Further, despite the radicals that could not respond to my facts about the many brilliant theistic scientists, there were people on the page that agreed with me and there were times that I conceded and agreed with various points by atheists. She acknowledged no facts and conceded nothing. That's obnoxious! Have a nice day.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
Yanno, this ...confuses me. In all atheist v theist debates, you wind up with the self identified agnostics/middle of the road guys, disparaging both sides....because their position is...inherently superior. They follow through with simple (and simplistic) logic to their inerrant position...which is one of ...what?
Either they'll say that the debate is meaningless (in which case...why join it?) or they're...trolling? And online, we all troll.
So, wuz the point?
meaninter03 2 weeks ago
@meaninter03 Every single comment you made last night on this page was just insult and ranting diatribe. You project you're own behavior on to others. Did it ever occur to you that some people criticize both sides because both sides have fanatics? Further, there are several comments on this page by people stating the exact same thing as I did and you simply focused on me. You had nothing to do but fight and I was foolish enough to fall for it, which was, I believe, your intention all along.

RuleofFive 2 weeks ago
Why do you wrongly stereotype all Christians as being like that.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@germanamericanable I'm not saying every last Christian believes the same thing. I look at many things that concern me about Christianity: women take a back seat, no birth control, homophobia, intelligent design, George W. Bush saying God told him to invade Iraq, the world is only 6000 years old, genocide ordered by God in the bible, misogyny in the bible, human sacrifice in the bible. I don't say Creationists because my concerns are about broader issues with Christians.
RuleofFive 2 weeks ago
@RuleofFive Most Christians do not believe the Bible is the inerrant word of God. They believe that the Bible is inspired by God. The idea of biblical inerrancy is actually a fairly new belief that developed in Europe (strangely by the Methodists) and was brought to the US. Lutherans don't believe the Bible is inerrant because we study it and know it has errors in it. Further, Genesis was NEVER supposed to have been taken literally. Augustine heavily criticized Christians for doing so.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
Projection is a bitch! You see, thiests love to accuse athiests of all of the negative actions that they have been doing for centuries. Without the threat of force or social stigmatism, their dogmas don't hold up to scrutiny. When all else fails, the sheeple have nothing to cling to except faith. The same faith that is use by "Religions, Inc" and now "Politics Inc." to advance their agendas. The "faithful" will follow even against their own interests because a "holy" book "tells" them so.
DAngelo136 2 weeks ago
@DAngelo136 And many ignorant and inarticulate atheists simply rely on ad hominem and vulgar name calling. It kills me that only a few people on this page could concede that there are radicals on each side, despite the fact that many prominent atheists agree with that. Some atheists also love to state their bigoted beliefs without any facts, they just spew enmity/animosity, just like retarded fundamentalists. They also stereotype and judge. Fanatics share similar personalities despite beliefs.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@germanamericanable Like you did yesterday?
meaninter03 2 weeks ago
@germanamericanable In all of the threads that I have read, the athiests have been far more polite than the theists. Disclosure: I am athiest. Now, as a practice I refrain from ad hominem attacks and name calling. I don't say anything online that I wouldn't say to anyone's face and I stand by what I posted. Many Christians do indeed believe that the bible is the inerrent and infalible word of god and their duty to spread that word regardless of the opinions of others
DAngelo136 2 weeks ago
@DAngelo136 I'll go further. Even the non-extremists, by virtue of their beliefs, support the extremists by validating the beliefs. Religion is a social phenomenon.
meaninter03 2 weeks ago
@DAngelo136 You can validly say "many" because there are a lot of people in this country. My intent was to point out that they are actually a minority, but you don't hear about the educated, peaceful Christians because they don't generally fight or argue the issue, which is why I mentioned a number of mainline denominations that are totally opposite of fundamentalists. Most fundamentalists do not study the Bible in a scholarly way, and you're right, some seem to ignorantly worship it.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@DAngelo136 Have you actually taken the time to read down through the comments on this page. They reveal the exact opposite of your assertion. Many atheists insist on spreading their word regardless of the opinions of others. To me, Bill Maher is every bit as much of a harpie and a blowhard as Bill O'Reilly. It's very telling that even a moderate view is heavily criticized on this page.
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@germanamericanable
"Many atheists insist on spreading their word regardless of the opinions of others."
Funny that you claim not to be biased but here you show that you are biased;
Most atheist don't care about religion and don't care about spreading the word.
Most atheists don't care about what you believe.
The actions of atheists are an allergic reaction to many years of religious people trying to undermine science with pure BS claims. It is a stand against ID.

germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@obaeyens I have to say I am amazed by the number of people who have sent me comments that have NOTHING to do with what I posted or actually said, particularly that nutcase meaninter03 who is every bit as absurd and crazy as Jerry Falwell. Also, if you read all my comments you'd see that I have many times agreed with atheist posters stating so adamantly. .
germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@germanamericanable For centuries, theists have imposed their beliefs and values either by force or social stigma for those who disagreed or deviated. Now that those options are no longer available, religion has to stand to the test of reason. And now athiests are pushing back much to the chagrin of theists. Indeed it has been the theists who have been the more obnoxious and engaging in ad hominem attacks.
DAngelo136 2 weeks ago
@DAngelo136 Actually, I agree with the first part of your comment because I am very familiar with Christian history, (history in general). I would point out that non-religious people have done the same (Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao). My original posts criticized people who FORCE their beliefs on people with scorn and enmity. As for atheists "pushing back" there are about 4 or 5 major classifications of atheist and they self-admittedly disagree about strategy. Many atheists criticize Dawkins tactics.

germanamericanable 2 weeks ago
@germanamericanable Athiests are a minority within the United States, if not worldwide. Until Madlyn Murray O'Hair happened along, being athiest would be bad for your health and your livlihood. Even today, open athiests can't run for public office and many Black athiests are are reluctant to come out due to family and peer pressure. In the military, you might very well be taking risks with your life because of the faith of your fellow soldiers who may disagree with you.
DAngelo136 2 weeks ago

@germanamericanable No, you idiot. Yes, some of those people were atheists and did horrible things...but they didn't do them in the name of atheism, or because atheism dictated it. @DAngelo136 Wrong. I just listed like 4 very notable leading atheist intellectuals that have started to harshly criticize Dawkins and I also listed a variety of atheist friendly publications that have run articles criticizing him for various reasons.

Christian fundies don't live in a black hole, they live in giant a nasty, dirty, filthy worn out cardboard box that they can't think outside of.
