So...the bracket is designed poorly which requires you to have to buy additional bent sheet metal to fix the design flaw....nice... BTW...longways...is actually called Portrait orientation.
I bought something very similar to this item, it just doesn't have the 45degree foam-wrapped handle near the bottom. Got it or $60 used, but I'm finding I prefer natural light for portraits. However, it does help me with events
Thank you for posting this. I was trying to figure out what would work best with my D90 with a vertical battery grip. & then I noticed your D90 with vertical battery grip :D
@bridgeoverwater627 Nate, Help! I purchased the stroboframe pro with anti twist plate for my nikon d90 and it doesn't work. I watched your video again and noticed you have something mounted to the bottom of your camera that helps it sit up higher. That is the only way my camera would fit this contraption is if it sits up higher. However, you failed to mention what is mounted on the bottom of your camera that then fits onto the anti-twist plate.
You have a D300 and an sb-800. Why not use the remote wirelessly on the bracket and eliminate the cord? Seems like it would work just as well, with no cord ro get in your way. Am I missing something?
@Ddanser229 Yeah, I don't have a D300, I have a D90. The D90 doesn't have the plug-in trigger, if that's what you're saying. If you're suggesting that I use a wireless remote, this thing is impossible to hold with one hand.
@bridgeoverwater627 Woops, looked like a d300 for some reason. sorry. But either way, what im trying to say still applies. You don't need to use the cord to connect your flash to the camera. The d90's built in flash can cat as a wireless flash commander to trigger your sb-800 (without the cable connected). That way you wouldnt have to deal with having the cable hanging there.
The D90 has a Commander function, which I use quite frequently instead of the SU-800. Just set your Flash Control to Commander at EV 0. You can then adjust from the external Flash Compensation button as necessary, and No Cable.
@OliverLeveritt yup, I know, but that uses a lot more of the battery than using the cable would. It doesn't really matter, whatever works best for you!
thanks for the video. If your doing event photos, club media, or more upclose portraits WITHOUT other lighting...you def. want to get this bracket, or any bracket with the same capabilities. It'll help make your photos THAT much better. As well if you are shooting more than 1 person...normally the person where the flash is pointing towards is brighter, and the others are darker and almost dim. Great vid. thanks for posting =]
I want to get a nikon sc-29 because of the infrared af light. Are you saying that the ir on your flash works with that 3rd party cable? if a regular cable allows the flash ir to work, then why do they make the sc-29? Please advise. thanks
never mind, I figured it out. You need the sc-29 so that the ir is always aiming at what your camera lens is seeing so it can properly focus. if you use your flash off body in either a frame or hand held, it may not always shine its ir light at your subject properly. Hope that helps anyone who had the same question I did about this.
The bracket also helps reduce red eye by raising the flash higher. Btw great video but I would probably get annoyed with a bracket that big so I use a Custom Brackets Folding T, it's a great bracket, sturdy and as the name says, its folds down to I can carry it in my bag.
Hi, I don't understand the point of a bracket. When you took your sideways picture there was a shadow because the flash was pointing sideways. You can get the same result w/o a bracket if you have the flash pointed up towards the ceiling when your camera is in the portrait position, and this is possible with a speedlight because you point head up, rotate 90 and then put head down, and bam u have it pointing towards ceiling and no shadows. Why pay over a 100?

Can you post a closup video or pics of the locking mechanism? I have an old unit without red locking lever and would like to add one myself.

problem with the twist plate is access to the batteries...too much time to take off of bracket to swap them out. nice review though.

Heh heh. Good reason to have the MB-D80 with two batteries loaded. :-)

Thats what hot shoe cables are for.. which you need to use this anyway.
Maybe you should of spent the bracket money on an proper cable.. seen plenty of the thirdparty ones have their hot shoes break apart.

Ehhh, I don't know. I don't use the thing all that often so it's not too big of a worry for me.
