  • This game plays fine for me on Windows XP most of the time, but I get that message at random quite a bit, but for an old game it's still fun!

  • Whatever you do don't install the patch to upgrade to the latest version. The latest version is actually far more glitchy than the previous version.

Like so everyone can see this.

  • where do u go for the cheats

  • how do u fix that bug

  • I get this on my Windows 98 when I sink a boat...

  • I get this problem all the time. Another thing that bugs me is when I'm following an airplane or the UFO out of the city limits into the mountains, they suddenly start going up and down really really fast, then the game crashes.

Those two things are very annoying.

  • @BowlingMania14

Yeah, I have both of those problems. They're so annoying, aren't they?

  • @lotusbandicoot Oh I hate when that happens. I put on the "superpowermultiply" cheat and speed away quickly when the UFO or Plane starts acting up.

I think the cause of that has to be the speed of the computer the game is running on. I think Simcopter is meant to run at a slower rate, but installing it on a modern computer, speeds up the gameplay, and causes errors.

I installed the game on my windows 7 laptop, and all the Plane and UFO does is bounces up and down uncontrollably LOL

  • @lotusbandicoot Yes they are.. (sorry for the late reply) I think the cause of the error has something to do with the way the game works. It knows that fire isn't supposed to start in water, but it did in this case, and crashed the game. Not sure exactly how it works LOL

  • @lotusbandicoot It's because the game wasn't designed for how powerful your computer is. You need to effectively "underclock" your CPU to make these issues go away. One way is to download cpugrab.exe, run it, set the slider to a certain percentage (80% is high enough on my athlon 3.1 GHz dual core) and start. You have to run an insance per each core, which means I have to run 2 cpugrab.exe at the same time. This causes a lot of CPU consumption but at least you cam play SimCopter.

  • I used to love playing this game on my old computer, can't find the disk anymore :(

  • It made that error because it wants to start a fire in water, but the game is designed to NOT start fires in water, so the next thing it can think to do is crash.

  • its also an error with streets of simcity, which is likely that AI planes such as flying saucers and airplanes are bouncing up and down erratically meaning the game runs too fast, widewunners comment about cpugrab.exe can help, i would say cpugrab is 70% effective in this case, however in streets of simcity its way more than 60

  • Yeah, I noticed that the planes and UFO bounces up and down wildly. I think sometimes the water surface seemed to moved fast too. It was fascinating, but the error was a serious joy-killer.

  • cpu grabber works 80% of the time for me.

  • @streetskid961

But.. This is SimCopter, what happen's if he doesn't have Street's of SImcity(I loved this game, my Mum accidently threw the cd out with the garbage, which I now hate her for T_T)?

  • whats the cheat?

  • There... isn't one.

  • yes there is... i found them...

  • Oh.

  • @lotusbandicoot

He is talking about the cheat that gives you the apache instead of having to find it at a base.

  • I have the same problem too but when i play tutorial city it works for a long time after there is the error

  • happened to me the most

It happened 43 seconds from now ;(

  • yes, i have the mistake, too... can anybody hlp me?

  • lmao play in the city of london, and to get the apache FREE, use the simcity 2000 city-building archive and build 2 or more f-15 fighter plane tarmacs somewhere together in the city, then fly, and one will have the apache randomly parked. Also London is the only city I know of with no glitches and "error messages" so mess with it all you'd like

  • I've tried that, it works! No more crappy error messages for me! ;)

  • Ugh I hate it when that happens!

  • How did you record it?

  • Fraps

  • thanks

  • this has to do with the game playing too fast on newer computers (the game is programed around a 166mhz Pentium i believe)

  • you are correct. on a modern day computers the game simply will crash no matter what. also, the rate in which missions appear is dramatically increased.

you can use a cpu downgrader (i use cpugrabber) to get it very close to the original game speed and you won't crash anymore.

  • Microsoft has/had a utility (cpugrab.exe from Directshow SDK toolkit) that uses up a user selectable amount of the CPU which effectively slows it down for all the other running programs. So to run SimCopter crash free, follow these steps:

google: "Welcome to the NEW PC Slow Down Page!" -> goto kulhain's page on geocities

    Download cpugrab.zip and extract cpugrab.exe

Run cpugrab.exe and set the slider bar to about 75%. (Core-duo? run another instance=99%)

    Run SimCopter

    Have fun saving sims!

  • Hmm even playing on an older computer (Celeron 533mhz/64mb ram/11mb Intel video/Windows 98) I still get this message after I play for a long time and alot of stuff is going on.

  • @Geforce2187

I have this problem too, but the only reason is because the file's on my cd are corrupted, mainly the proble. is because of the age of the cd, because it has MANY scratches,

  • That helps so much, Thanks.
