Identical twins CAN be in separate sacs. It just depends on how early they split when they were embryos.. The earlier they split, the better chance they have of being in separate sacs. Congrats by the way!

There's a great chance you are having a girl and boy! It makes since that Baby "B" would be a boy since he is 2 days older. Boy sperms swim faster but die sooner than girl sperm. Girl sperm swim slow but live longer. So, if your eggs were fertilized by the same sperm you have a great chance of having both!
Jess, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were fraternal twins and look absolutely identical... I guess there is a slight chance that your "boys" will look the same :-D
potty shots this early pretty much all look the same, the best way to get a guess at gender is the side profile shot where you can see the gender nub :)

You should wait at least until 17 or 18 weeks to know the gender. With my baby they predicted with the blood flow down there jajaja yes they were correct because he was legs crossed too

At this stage in utero, all babies have a penis looking "thing" whether they are boy or girl. Girls are often mistaken for boys because for them, the "thing" is actually larger at this stage. baby2see dot com has photos of genital development at different stages of pregnancy that will show you what I mean.
@plus1please Yup! Happened to me with my daughter (ultrasound was at 14 weeks, saying she was a boy). I looked it up at that point and saw it was pretty common, because of how a penis or clitoris develops. They all start as the same part and for a boy it becomes a penis and for a girl it becomes a clitoris. If I remember correctly.

I love when they start kicking eachother. That was so so so cute. And the waving. My little man did that too. But with both hands and was smiling at the same time. I can't wait to find out what you are having. Congrats again on thte twins.

I personally think 12 weeks is wayy to early to tell because the baby's 'parts' aren't even half way developed. I wasn't able to tell with my daughter until 17 weeks. And I had an ultrasound every two weeks. But it's nice that she tried. Good luck with everything!

@Megan10Zorn Mirror image twins are by definition actually monozygotic, or from one egg, therefore identical. They are called mirror image because the share the same (identical) DNA and in theory when facing eachother the appear to be exact reflections of eachother.You can get that definition on google. Back in like...2002ish, my teacher was told his wife was having a girl, in every ultrasound (and she had some complications and was put on bed rest) that they were having a girl. They painted the nursery purple, pink accents, little dresses...and out popped a boy! haha
This was SO great Jess, I've never seen a twin ultrasound before! Amazing! And to everyone who's saying it isn't possible to know the gender, it's obviously possible. Read everyone's comments saying when they found out. Everyone is different! :D Loved this vid!

When I got my gender ultrasound for my son they could tell within 3 seconds that he was a boy. And that is an early ultrasound in this video but it does look like boys to me (:

I just wanted to let you know that my babies are identical but they have seperate sacs in a way! The membrane is very thin! I wanted to tell you this because your ultrasound tech was saying its not possible but it is!! They are called mono/di twins. @HardCoreAwesome are you aware that at 12 weeks the girl parts are actually popped out? both genders start with them partially popped out. The boys continue the popping...lol... but the girls "go in."
there's actually been statistics that say its actually possible to find out this early because of newer ultrasound technology, and boys are always obvious, girls you cant find out for a while because his boy parts can still pop out, but once they pop out theres no going back in so its very likely actually.

I was told at 15 weeks I was having a boy it was not a gender u/s but for another medical problem in the ER and sure enough they were right at my 18 anatomy scan ultrasound I found it was a boy. Usually the mistake is made with girls not boys.
@twainslureca That is true but your baby was at 15 weeks, these cute kiddos are only just 12. Physically their "private area" is almost identical unless looked at very closely to see the angle. That being said, they could still be two boys. They will know better at the next ultrasound and with them having twins I am sure there will be many more scans to verify. TOO cute vid though

I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and was told she was positive it was a boy when I went back at 20 weeks it was a girl. So dont get to hopeful it could be wrong. But you have a 50/50 chance at least.
It wont let me post a link. If you google "Gender nub at 12 weeks" the second link says "Embryo development external..." click it and it has actual pictures of baby girl and boy at 11 weeks pregnant. They look nearly exactly the same. Not trying to be a downer, could still be boys, but please don't buy anything :)
I'm having my second baby n its due march 31st n I'm going to have a ultra sound oct 14th to see if its a boy or a girl I will only be 15 weeks n 6 days. Do you think that's to early?
@mommatokaylee 15 weeks is still early but around 15 weeks thing start to differentiate so I still would wait to buy for the anatomy ultrasound but you have a good shot at knowing. :)

If they are identical, it depends when they split. If they split VERY early, they will be in two seperate chorionic and amniotic sacks. Most identical twins have one chorionic sack and two amniotic sacks... some have one chorionic sack and one amniotic sack. That is called momo twins (monochorionic monoamniotic) and is actually dangerous because they can tangle their cords together. I learned this in college bio.

The placenta looks fused. You need to see a specialist, especially because they implanted next to each other. That can be a sign of a problem.

@IloveBMB728 Biologically boys and girls look very very similar at this stage of development. Maybe when other people were told it was a boy and they were right, it was because 50% of the time (or more since more boys than girls are born a year)I could just randomly guess and be right.I think everyone hopes there is at least one boy in there for Drake :-) so we aren't trying to be bummers, but biology is biology.google it :-)

Back in like...2002ish, my teacher was told his wife was having a girl, in every ultrasound (and she had some complications and was put on bed rest) that they were having a girl. They painted the nursery purple, pink accents, little dresses...and out popped a boy! haha

This was SO great Jess, I've never seen a twin ultrasound before! Amazing! And to everyone who's saying it isn't possible to know the gender, it's obviously possible. Read everyone's comments saying when they found out. Everyone is different! :D Loved this vid!

When I got my gender ultrasound for my son they could tell within 3 seconds that he was a boy. And that is an early ultrasound in this video but it does look like boys to me (:

Hi jessica ive just started watching your videos & I am also pregnant with twins! I am at 17 weeks today though so a little ahead of you. I just wanted to let you know that my babies are identical but they have seperate sacs in a way! The membrane is very thin! I wanted to tell you this because your ultrasound tech was saying its not possible but it is!! They are called mono/di twins. I will send this to in a msg if i can just to make sure you get read it because you get alot of comments!

I found out I was having a baby girl at 15 weeks from the 4d/3d. Everyone still thought i was having a boy. YA'll should do the 4d/3d. ITs awesome

@HardCoreAwesome are you aware that at 12 weeks the girl parts are actually popped out? both genders start with them partially popped out. The boys continue the popping...lol... but the girls "go in."

there's actually been statistics that say its actually possible to find out this early because of newer ultrasound technology, and boys are always obvious, girls you cant find out for a while because his boy parts can still pop out, but once they pop out theres no going back in so its very likely actually.

I was told at 15 weeks I was having a boy it was not a gender u/s but for another medical problem in the ER and sure enough they were right at my 18 anatomy scan ultrasound I found it was a boy. Usually the mistake is made with girls not boys.

@twainslureca That is true but your baby was at 15 weeks, these cute kiddos are only just 12. Physically their "private area" is almost identical unless looked at very closely to see the angle. That being said, they could still be two boys. They will know better at the next ultrasound and with them having twins I am sure there will be many more scans to verify. TOO cute vid though

I had an ultrasound at 11 weeks and was told she was positive it was a boy when I went back at 20 weeks it was a girl. So dont get to hopeful it could be wrong. But you have a 50/50 chance at least.

It wont let me post a link. If you google "Gender nub at 12 weeks" the second link says "Embryo development external..." click it and it has actual pictures of baby girl and boy at 11 weeks pregnant. They look nearly exactly the same. Not trying to be a downer, could still be boys, but please don't buy anything :)

@mommatokaylee 15 weeks is still early but around 15 weeks thing start to differentiate so I still would wait to buy for the anatomy ultrasound but you have a good shot at knowing. :)

If they are identical, it depends when they split. If they split VERY early, they will be in two seperate chorionic and amniotic sacks. Most identical twins have one chorionic sack and two amniotic sacks... some have one chorionic sack and one amniotic sack. That is called momo twins (monochorionic monoamniotic) and is actually dangerous because they can tangle their cords together. I learned this in college bio.
