  • So you are Portugusese :P Nice voice keep going! GO PORTUGAL

  • beautiful, why you don't make a cd with fado

  • Very nice. Never heard that one before.

  • Horrible !!!!!

  • so, just keep on singing and inspiring other people in other countries. i am portuguese and i am living in another country and i am finding myself and my own contry in touch with foreigners who also love portugal. the best way to know portugal is being out of it so we have a new look about it.

  • i really loved your voice, but mostly, the way u are singing because it really touches me, i can feel the fado in this song rather than some other portuguese musicians, because u have a more pure/natural way to sing it, not touched by the media. i guess so.

  • fado is something more than just an accent, and this is just to answer to some guys here, who unfortnally don´t understand what fado really means. it is a way of expression, mostly it is a portuguese genre of music, but we never know if it was inspired in some other cultures or not.

  • BUT....I do want to say this befor i have a million bombing or so by people,Good Voice i love your voice yes and how you are brave to step to a webcamera alot of people well never do it.

Some who are looking at my name,Hansweber? german name? Yes,Iam aswell german. Doesnt mean now germans what do they know or what do I know about portguese, iam all about europe. its my life and opera and fado to I,is only music i adore. music portguesa is like no other when its singed. ''awaits the bombarments.

  • My opionion everyone got the right to declare his own. I'am portugese do northe averio portugal. But i believe,Brazlin people shouldn't sing portugese music because it doesn't sound right nor is it the same because brazlin people was tought to speak by portguese along time ago but they lack on the right tone to perfectly our true portguese way of speaking, alot of people well tell you having someone not portugese sing portguese song, expl specially brazlin, isn't going get you to becomming famous.

  • not bad :)

  • Very good!!! Love it!!! I am also a big fan of fado. You have a very beautiful voice. Excellent!!!

  • nice, muito bom. obrigado for keeping the song alive. I'm a fan, a portugueese one, so... kisses!

    p.s. é so a minha opiniao

    LOL

  • Thank you for the Fado. Lovely.

  • Still my fav vid of yours. And it still brings a tear to my eye.

  • muito bom!!! Aqui no Brasil, precisamos ouvir mais fado! beijos

  • nice consistent voice , good scaling ,transmites the feeling even if not sensing the words, music its a world language, very good approach.

    carry on,from portugal

  • lenita21, Excuse my poor translation. I agree with you there is much passion and feeling in Fado, and very hard to express outwardly. But because it seems to you Ysabella doesn't show what you consider enough passion and feeling, doesn't diminish the fact of how she truly feels inside. And besides, It may be a difference of interpretation because of mainland and island Portuguese heritage. It's a colloquial language barrier between the two peoples. Her feelings are just as true.

  • Talvez eu entendi mal seu comentário? Se eu fiz, eu me desculpo.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment? If I did, I apologize.

  • Sim, eu disse exactamente isso! ;)

  • lenita21, Thanks for explaining. I thought it after second thoughts. Ysabella is a very talented versatile young artist with very much heart felt deep feelings for her music and heritage. She is devout Christian lady who gives of herself to us, unselfishly and deserves very much our respect. But unfortunately, there are those who feel it necessary to hurt with unwise comments as they do Ysabella. It is those people I direct my comments at in hopes they will be more kind :)

  • Desculpa se te intrepetei mal...BUT the thing i was trying to tell you is that..for me, to sing fado correctly,it just doesn't matter to like it, its to love and really enjoy sing it with a big passion. I did said that you sing very well, cause you do, but in my opinion portuguese fado is not for you. Just that... I didn't mean to be rude. Take care of yourself. ;)

  • pimpstapimps, why do you say that Portuguese fado is not for her? She is Portuguese and has much feelings you couldn't understand. Why is she so judged by you saying she is not singing fado correctly? She sings with as much fado feeling as anyone, and to her grandmother, while sharing it with us. You need to really know her to understand who she really is and how she truly feels about her heritage.

  • Talvez eu entendi mal seu comentário? Se eu fiz, eu me desculpo.

Maybe I misunderstood your comment? If I did, I apologize.

  • They act like you don't have a right to sing Fado, like you couldn't possibly understand the meaning, and feelings down deep inside. They should read the sidebar more carefully, before they become so self-righteous & perfect, pretending they are more Portuguese than you, thinking that makes them better than you. God Bless you for your great respect and courage for sharing & standing up for your heritage. I know some of the comments must have hurt you greatly.

  • MaryAnne, going back through comments here, makes me so sad for you. The dishonor & disrespect many of the Portuguese/Brazilian commenter's show you & your grandmother, is appalling. Some of their comments are even racist. They beat you over the head with language issue, not realizing your heritage is from the Azores & not mainland. They come very close to calling you an imposter or half breed, because of your African heritage, as well as dishonoring your namesake & loved one Isabella.

  • And I know you were not expecting such rude and unkind words. You were sending your love to your beloved grandmother Isabella, & sharing your love with us. I know this is a very serious song and you didn't expect such disrespect. You have my deepest sympathy. You don't deserve such disrespect from supposedly your own people. I thank you for such a beautiful song with true feeling to your grandmother and her heritage.

  • Horrivel...Im sorry but i didn't like it...if you guys were portuguese you would noticed that the video its not as great as it seems to be. Any way she sings very well.

  • I agree, singing is ok, but that strong english accent is irritating in aesthetical way.

  • Bravo!

  • Still my favorite video of yours. Do more songs like this one!

  • Your passion for song is incredible. You have a very powerful screen presence. Your voice and renditions are charming and a pleasure to hear. Thanks for sharing your song.

  • If you like bollywood you should check out the soundtrack to the film aja nachle. I am addicted to it and there is a great mix of fast and slow songs.

  • that is a lovely song. The word fadó in irish means along time ago!

  • I heard and hears thousands of times' this lovely song !

But still remains a small question...

Almost without accent this way, it carries me to believe that you talk portuguese!

    Am I right?

  • Request from San Diego:

Girl From Ipenema, ... sing it in Portuguese.

Maybe the cut from Sergio Mendez, non-English version or similar. There was a blond girl in his group back in those days who did it very well.

  • now you have to do a BOSSA NOVA!

    Beijao querida!

    Assim voce rebenta meu coraçao!

    Levantou minha alma!

  • I watched this video months and months ago, and although I didn't understand the words, it brought me to tears just by how beautiful the music is how how you sing it with such feeling. Bravo darling keep them coming!

  • magnifico

  • Can somebody tell me what is the name of this singer? I love her voice!!

  • Lovely, Congrats!

  • If you would like to get about 700 million more fans you could try a 'Ballywood' tune - India awaits!

  • Hi Ysabella. My name is Luísa...you don't know me. Espere!

PS. Adorei o teu suspiro mesmo no final...eu fiz o mesmo ;)

    Beijos

  • Obrigado. That's magnificent. Sung with soul. Mariza's amazing BUT overpaid, overproduced and overemphasized. That's more like it. Respect.

  • Beautiful. That's all I have to say. Just beautiful.

  • Lovely. Still one of my favorites.

  • you are wonderfull! you sing it in your own way! i'm not portuguese nor speak portuguese but fado music has always touched my soul! my writings are so inspired from this music too! very good job Miss! and if you ever have time please come check my song midnight confessions you'lll see what i mean. RESPECT

  • hey can you tell me where you got the karaoke for that song ... im going to sing it at the portuguese center and i cant find the karaoke to this song plz and thank you =]

  • More feeling than Mariza

  • It's not enough that your talented and beautiful but your also Azorean.I mean how cool is that.I'm Hungarian Hi

  • ahaha beautiful.. the accent adds something to it:)

  • I love Mariza Nunes' music! 'Meu Fado Meu' and 'Há uma música do povo' are by far my favorite songs by her. I was born in Brazil to Brazilians parents of Portuguese descent, and moved to the USA at two years of age.

  • your voice sounds wonderful. like a scratchy old 78 record.

beautiful song, beautiful version of a beautiful song. .your granny would be proud of you....a fan in australia

    Parabens!!!! bela versao

  • ur great at singing as well! even tho, sorry but, i dnt understand a WORD u say, but the singing is really good. im used to people singing words that dont make sense to me (ive got a younger sister...)

    XD

  • thats so cool! my name is ysabella as well! my mums last name, b4 she married my dad was rave so if she kept her name, id be ysabella rave!

    u go girl!

  • great feeling!!!! that's really portuguese blood

    in your heart!

  • se és do pico faz-me um bico

  • I'm from Sao Miguel. You have a wonderful voice. Have you recorded anything or have plans to record anything. I would love to have more of your music. In your voice I hear a bit of Piaf, a bit of Judy Garland...your sound is a throwback to the wonderful artists of the days of old.

  • That explains a lot! Keep on! :) Açores is a great island, a dream.

  • I don't know were are you from, but im portuguese and i must say: WELL DONE!! GIRL. I wonder if you Know at it means.

You felt it like a true portuguese! BRAVO ;)

  • Very nice voice... smooth and sexy... touches the heart of those who listen to... you only need some work with the portuguese... even so... wow...

  • wtf? :O

  • off tune in some parts but none the less good job

  • I have not listened to all of your songs, but this one really stands out. Beautifully interpreted. The Portuguese/Brazilian song book is huge, and so under heard in the USA. We are missing a lot.

  • joaomilitao, I could have sworn it was Ysabella's mouth moving and not her nostrils.

I'm more moved with each viewing of this video than hearing Mariza perform it live a couple months ago.

  • Her nose does move sometimes. So what if she wrinkles her nose and flares her nostrils? I dont see anything wrong with the way she sings. I can hear her loud and clear. I would love to hear more songs in Portuguese. I love how she performed this. I can only agree when she says, "Wow," at the end. Good stuff.

  • no, what he/she means is that she is singing through her nose / in a nasal fashion / nasally / whinily. I'm afraid that no one can compare with Mariza when singing this song.

  • Its OK to have opinions. Ysabella sounds great to me- and not nasal at all. I like her singing. Voices are unique. Two different singers will not sing the same song in exactly the same way. I'm sure Mariza is an excellent singer, and I have nothing against her.

  • The accent may be different but I like to listen to your passion. ...and I am portuguese...

Sou Brasileira.

    Foi muito bom te conhecer.

    Um abração

  • Sorry to comment on such an old video, but I just found it. I was wondering, since you can speak both Portuguese and English like a native, did you learn them both at home from birth, or if not, which did you learn first and how did you learn it? Thank you, and thank you for posting your beautiful songs.

  • I think you have to practice more your portuguese, you missed some words of Mariza's song...

  • Her voice is beautiful, and with a lot of feeling. Bravo!

  • esplêndido^^

  • is difficult to sing fado when you're not portuguese. so nice effort!

  • loved it! i speak portuguese. =) only its portuguese from brazil...soo different accent but i loved this song.

  • This is the best voice i've heard in thirty years.

  • SING MORE PORTUGUESE SONGS PLEASE!!

  • YB, this is one of the best things you have ever done. The quality of your voice varies with the intensity of your commitment, and this is wonderful, absolutely perfect. Will you grace us with "Coimbra" some day? (one of my favorite Fados of the 20th century, and also one of the best songs of all time; it's also a little more upbeat for modern audiences)

  • Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ?

  • lovely fado

  • this is great. you sound amazing! id love to hear you sings a cover of Canção do Mar by Dulce Pontes. I think you would sound awesome on that.

  • you're amazing! ,.... how many languages can you speak?

  • Someone Knows where I can find the karaoke of this beautiful song?

  • acho k o k tás a tentar dizer é Amalia Rodrigues... xD

  • olé é espanhol xD

  • graxista xD

  • I don't care what she is or isn't saying right...I don't understand the language anyway....

it's too beautiful...reguardless whatever she is saying..Congrats!! I am sure these people can't sing this even if they are from the country it came from!!!

You could sing any song and make it better than the original!!

love your voice, and you have it all! Keep up the awesome work!

  • I have no idea who you are!!

I just ran into one of your videos.

I'm starting from the earlier stuff and workin my way up.

    But you are very talented.

    Very original.

    Very cool.

    Your voice is amazing !

  • This song is beautiful...where have you found the karaoke? Please, answer me...I need it.Thanks :)

  • oh nice - fado is such a melancholic music style - beautiful :-) thanks!

  • Beautiful! I had a little trouble understanding the words on this one, which is unusual. I'm not sure what went wrong, but still, beautiful.

  • I didn't say it was Brasileiro. I was responding to someone's post saying that Brasileiro was for just anyone while Portuguese was only for the Portuguese. I was saying that was racist. The comment was deleted I guess.

  • Muito bom!

  • Belissimo!

  • Franky you´re right that´s not brazileiro cause brasileiro it´s not even a language. That´s portuguese but not from Azores! You sould get a map. Azores is a portuguese arquipelago. It´s part of the country, not a country itself. Fado is our tradictional music. Ysabella you are great and i, as a portuguese citizen, am very honoured to hear you singing MEU FADO! Great Job. You should come to Portugal. Keep on

  • HHááá FAdistaa :p

  • But I love you're voice, you're an artist. Big A.

  • You need to understand the lyric first, then you'll know how to sing it.. You have a good voice, but Fado it's diferent..You can speak badly, and none can understand you.. But if you singing it with soul, perfect.

  • Stop killing fado! You're that like jazz or blues, maybe a swing! Can't! Fado is more deep! Fado is destiny, it's the unknown it's portuguese pain! that's the soul of fado! Stop, i'm portuguese..

  • The Portuguese Diaspora also included Mozambique and I have heard that some look askance at them too.

  • Muito Obrigado! I did enjoy. My daughter was born at Lajes Air Base, ilha Terceira. We lived in the Vila da Praia da Vitória. The Azores must be the most beautiful place on Earth. Stepping off the airplane gives the feeling that Dorothy Gale must have had arriving in Oz for the first time. It feels almost like fate to find you on YouTube! I thought I detected a slight foreign accent on one song, but I never imagined you were from the Açores archipelago!

  • As for this girl singing. . .it's sounds to me like she grew up in North America. Ex: She pronounces 'até' as 'ah-tay' when it should be 'ut-EH'. and 'mais amado" she says as 'maish amado'. If the last s in the word is followed by a word that begins with a vowel it's pronounced as a z. But in anycase I still think she's a great singer and it's great that she's not just singing another stupid pop song.

  • Don't you know, she's one of the most popular and most beloved singers on Youtube? With MILLIONS of listeners around the world? She is from California, not a native speaker of Portuguese. Her grandfather came from the Azores, and this was a tribute to her heritage. I find it very touching that as an American, she sang this song for her family, grammatical errors notwithstanding. It was love

  • First of all her errors are not grammatical she didn't write the song. The errors are in pronounciation. And I didn't there was anything wrong with that I was just pointing that out. Second I said I liked her.

  • More of this (Portugues) would be wonderful!

    (as this is)

    thank you

  • Not bad at all for some one who don´t speak portuguese!!

  • ah...eh?

  • Brilliant! Maravilhosa! Beautiful!

You're a great artist and it's a very nice song.

  • terrific work... what a lovely mood you've created here! Nothing remotely like the cheap sentimentality that qualifies so much of the fado style. And the killer red dress is really happening! You're a pretty girl AND a soulful natural singer... BRAVO!!!!

    I wish you well!

    72shots dot com

  • And you did it brilliantly! It just sounds different from the way it is sang by traditional fado singers... but that isn't a bad thing. not at all! ;) as I said your voice is extremely charming and unique

  • Fourth: I advise you to check out this video: watch?v=bGugkhyyQBo It's got a good translation of the song. But being this your personal interpretation I must say it's pretty good and you have a great sounding voice.

  • Third: Just take a look at the lines: 'Do meu povo trago o pranto / No meu canto a Mouraria' which means 'From the people, I bring their grief / (And) into my song (I bring) Mouraria' (and not 'I'll sing of Magdalena' -- although it might sound almost the same in Portuguese).

  • Second: As I was reading your translation I realised you might have misunderstood the meaning of the song. You sing like someone who's in love -- well, it's totally the opposite. This song is about loss; it's about missing yourself ('Tenho saudades de mim' means 'I miss my self' and not 'I have my own soul and destiny') and bringing not only your pain into your voice but also the sadness of the people -- of your country.

  • First: It's funny that so many people are complaining about your accent. I'm Portuguese (from the mainland) and I completely understand what you're singing, but it's noticeable you're from the Azores. It gives a different taste to the words.

  • que língua é esta?

  • Hey, I'm also from the Azores (from Terceira and São Miguel, to be exact!)! I love your singing! Keep it up! Btw, you remind me of Michelle Williams! You're real beautiful ;)!!!

  • I am a big fan of Mariza, having had a lovely lady-friend from the Acores/America who turned me on to Fado.

You have a wonderful repore with the camera! Excellent!!!

One tip. Set the camera up for a medium telephoto, instead of the camera being close. Maybe 10-15 feet away, but having the same framing. You will look much better. Try it, please.

    Ed

  • Hey Ed... I second your observation on camera setup - absolutely on target!

And again you're right: her connect with the camera is supremely comfortable and 'true', somehow. Lovely girl. Fine artist.

    Cheers CBH

  • Hello again, YB! Long time no talk, huh?! Anywho, just wanted to tell you I really enjoyed this song, and TOTALLY AGREE with your, "wow," at the end. You rock! It was a nice change from youre regular English singing to hear something from you in Portuguese. It was so beautiful! Much love from a fellow believer in CA, USA.

  • they're always trying to sweep their darkies under the rug, just go to MA and check out the Galhegos, it came as a shock to me, what an attractive Galhega!, and the voice is magnificent

  • Oh and just so you know, watching your goldeneye video I noticed the Tina Turner Impressionist comment your work and I about pissed my pants... lol ;) How incredibly awkward.

  • this is so breathtakingly entertaining... always a pleasure to hear your work.

  • it's fantastic to see foreigners trying their best to sing fado. it's not her voice that's important to me. it's the gesture... she did a real hard work. Could be better, mas fado comes from the heart, not from the mouth. so... i give her 10! just for the intention!

  • I agree with atir in some points, im also portuguese. I commend the effort of ysabellabrave and i don't think only portuguese people should sing the fado, of course it's a portuguese trait and u need to learn portuguese culture intensively to understand the meaning and the feeling of fado and saudade. are u an açores imigrant ysabella? ur accent sounds american or smthing, am i right?

for those who departed our country, i think its specially meaningful aand deep to sing the fado..

  • However, she dedicated this song to someone special, so, after all.. this has a meaning. Didn't read her text. Still not a good singer of fado.. but it's worth the efford! Respect

  • atir423essa is a portuguese loser who has nothing posted on his channel. He does the fado artists he mentions a great disservice by posting his negative comments. It's quite a racist comment he makes similar to "only Afro-Americans can play real Blues".

  • not really, atir just knows exactly what he's talking about and you don't. I commend the effort of ysabella but she's no match for any portuguese fadista of around the corner. I'm not saying she should stop, but try harder, MUCH HARDER and learn portuguese first. Fado is very deep, you should respect it like a religion and feel it..if you understand what she says it touches you deeper like if you were mourning and makes you cry :'(

  • wow i am completely blown away. this is great! you should so sing a fado track on ur upcoming cd. that would be awesome.

Fado music is so beatiful. this makes me an even bigger fan of yours!!

  • your singing is wonderful. all your videos are very good, keep it up!

  • I want your cd!

  • We learn new things everyday... isn't that wonderful! Thankyou:) xx

  • Aparently there's a difference between Portugese from Brazil, and the Portugese from Portugal?

  • Yes, there is. I can vouch for that having lived in Brazil and having Portuguese colleagues both there and back in the States.

  • Oh! it's true, you are part Portugese!

I have a best friend from Brazil. Beautiful language!

I sing a couple songs in Portugese, lol, but I don't speak the language, sadly. I can speak French though:)

    Beautiful singing Maryanne! As always!

I will pass this video along to a couple friends!

    Have a beauty filled day.

    kisses..... Sarah

  • beautiful song, so sentimental and sad!! I love fado, and her too!

  • My family is from Sao Miguel =)...I can understand you and good job

  • yeah I'm brasileira and I understood her so what are you being mean for what talent you got??

  • you can't sing in portuguese, i couldnt understand anything o.o' and i live in portugal (i'm portuguese, yes)

  • try to find a Mouraria picture were fado was born and will realise that an american getto lokes like heavan

  • WOW! THANK you! I was just THINKing "I WisH I could understand this song!", and LOOK! You have it all translated FOR us!!! Maaany thanks! It's BEAUTIFUL!:D

  • You sing sooo beautifully!

  • Lindo como tem que ser.

  • This song is so Beautiful, do you speak Portuguese fluently?

  • The only translation I can find for Fado is Destiny, but is it also a music Genre?

  • Look. You can speak my language. Congratiolation!!!!!

How many others do you know in protuguese?

    Beijos
