i really loved your voice, but mostly, the way u are singing because it really touches me, i can feel the fado in this song rather than some other portuguese musicians, because u have a more pure/natural way to sing it, not touched by the media. i guess so.
fado is something more than just an accent, and this is just to answer to some guys here, who unfortnally don´t understand what fado really means. it is a way of expression, mostly it is a portuguese genre of music, but we never know if it was inspired in some other cultures or not.

Esse fado é um dos mais bonitos que existe, não sei se conheces o Pico, mas senão conheceres tenta visita-lo, a sensação de ver aquele enorme mar é avassaladora :).

Her nose does move sometimes. So what if she wrinkles her nose and flares her nostrils? I dont see anything wrong with the way she sings. I can hear her loud and clear. Its OK to have opinions. Ysabella sounds great to me- and not nasal at all. I like her singing. Voices are unique. Two different singers will not sing the same song in exactly the same way. I'm sure Mariza is an excellent singer, and I have nothing against her.

Try singing a different style of music, more suitable to your voice. fado is the soul of Portugal, and you MUST be 100% portuguese to understand it and sing it - or be raised there and aborb the spirit of the portuguese. sorry! but, you're a good singer otherwise, so, keep it up!

Stepping off the airplane gives the feeling that Dorothy Gale must have had arriving in Oz for the first time. It feels almost like fate to find you on YouTube! I thought I detected a slight foreign accent on one song, but I never imagined you were from the Açores archipelago!
As for this girl singing. . .it's sounds to me like she grew up in North America. Ex: She pronounces 'até' as 'ah-tay' when it should be 'ut-EH'. and 'mais amado" she says as 'maish amado'. If the last s in the word is followed by a word that begins with a vowel it's pronounced as a z. But in anycase I still think she's a great singer and it's great that she's not just singing another stupid pop song.

Third: Just take a look at the lines: 'Do meu povo trago o pranto / No meu canto a Mouraria' which means 'From the people, I bring their grief / (And) into my song (I bring) Mouraria' (and not 'I'll sing of Magdalena' -- although it might sound almost the same in Portuguese).
Second: As I was reading your translation I realised you might have misunderstood the meaning of the song. You sing like someone who's in love -- well, it's totally the opposite. This song is about loss; it's about missing yourself ('Tenho saudades de mim' means 'I miss my self' and not 'I have my own soul and destiny') and bringing not only your pain into your voice but also the sadness of the people -- of your country.

Fado is a tipical portuguese music, and it only portuguese people can sing it, because only portuguese people can really feel the meaning of it. I'm portuguese, and this is the worst interpretation I've ever heard, because she doesn't even know how to speak and pronounce portuguese words! If you want to aprecciate the real fado, hear Marisa or Ana Moura or Amália Rodrigues, and you'll know the real feeling, the real emotion of this portuguese music.

MaryAnne, going back through comments here, makes me so sad for you. The dishonor & disrespect many of the Portuguese/Brazilian commenter's show you & your grandmother, is appalling. Some of their comments are even racist. They beat you over the head with language issue, not realizing your heritage is from the Azores & not mainland. They come very close to calling you an imposter or half breed, because of your African heritage, as well as dishonoring your namesake & loved one Isabella.

I love Mariza Nunes' music! 'Meu Fado Meu' and 'Há uma música do povo' are by far my favorite songs by her. I was born in Brazil to Brazilians parents of Portuguese descent, and moved to the USA at two years of age.

I have not listened to all of your songs, but this one really stands out. Beautifully interpreted. The Portuguese/Brazilian song book is huge, and so under heard in the USA. We are missing a lot.

Her nose does move sometimes. So what if she wrinkles her nose and flares her nostrils? I dont see anything wrong with the way she sings. I can hear her loud and clear. I would love to hear more songs in Portuguese. I love how she performed this. I can only agree when she says, "Wow," at the end. Good stuff.

Its OK to have opinions. Ysabella sounds great to me- and not nasal at all. I like her singing. Voices are unique. Two different singers will not sing the same song in exactly the same way. I'm sure Mariza is an excellent singer, and I have nothing against her.

YB, this is one of the best things you have ever done. The quality of your voice varies with the intensity of your commitment, and this is wonderful, absolutely perfect. Will you grace us with "Coimbra" some day? (one of my favorite Fados of the 20th century, and also one of the best songs of all time; it's also a little more upbeat for modern audiences)

ok, forgive me, but I have to give you the news: you really can't do fado, oh, lord...you're pretty, can sing, but no! Please!!!! but good try, and it's nice that you like fado anyway. Try singing a different style of music, more suitable to your voice. fado is the soul of Portugal, and you MUST be 100% portuguese to understand it and sing it - or be raised there and aborb the spirit of the portuguese. sorry! but, you're a good singer otherwise, so, keep it up!

Franky you´re right that´s not brazileiro cause brasileiro it´s not even a language. That´s portuguese but not from Azores! You sould get a map. Azores is a portuguese arquipelago. Muito Obrigado! I did enjoy. My daughter was born at Lajes Air Base, ilha Terceira. We lived in the Vila da Praia da Vitória. The Azores must be the most beautiful place on Earth. Stepping off the airplane gives the feeling that Dorothy Gale must have had arriving in Oz for the first time. It feels almost like fate to find you on YouTube! I thought I detected a slight foreign accent on one song, but I never imagined you were from the Açores archipelago!

As for this girl singing. . .it's sounds to me like she grew up in North America. Ex: She pronounces 'até' as 'ah-tay' when it should be 'ut-EH'. and 'mais amado" she says as 'maish amado'. If the last s in the word is followed by a word that begins with a vowel it's pronounced as a z. But in anycase I still think she's a great singer and it's great that she's not just singing another stupid pop song.

Don't you know, she's one of the most popular and most beloved singers on Youtube? With MILLIONS of listeners around the world? She is from California, not a native speaker of Portuguese. Her grandfather came from the Azores, and this was a tribute to her heritage. I find it very touching that as an American, she sang this song for her family, grammatical errors notwithstanding. First of all her errors are not grammatical she didn't write the song. The errors are in pronounciation. And I didn't there was anything wrong with that I was just pointing that out. Second I said I liked her.

Third: Just take a look at the lines: 'Do meu povo trago o pranto / No meu canto a Mouraria' which means 'From the people, I bring their grief / (And) into my song (I bring) Mouraria' (and not 'I'll sing of Magdalena' -- although it might sound almost the same in Portuguese).

Second: As I was reading your translation I realised you might have misunderstood the meaning of the song. You sing like someone who's in love -- well, it's totally the opposite. This song is about loss; it's about missing yourself ('Tenho saudades de mim' means 'I miss my self' and not 'I have my own soul and destiny') and bringing not only your pain into your voice but also the sadness of the people -- of your country.

One tip. Set the camera up for a medium telephoto, instead of the camera being close. Maybe 10-15 feet away, but having the same framing. You will look much better. Try it, please.

I commend the effort of ysabellabrave and i don't think only portuguese people should sing the fado, of course it's a portuguese trait and u need to learn portuguese culture intensively to understand the meaning and the feeling of fado and saudade. are u an açores imigrant ysabella? ur accent sounds american or smthing, am i right?

Fado is a tipical portuguese music, and it only portuguese people can sing it, because only portuguese people can really feel the meaning of it. I'm portuguese, and this is the worst interpretation I've ever heard, because she doesn't even know how to speak and pronounce portuguese words! If you want to aprecciate the real fado, hear Marisa or Ana Moura or Amália Rodrigues, and you'll know the real feeling, the real emotion of this portuguese music.

not really, atir just knows exactly what he's talking about and you don't. I commend the effort of ysabella but she's no match for any portuguese fadista of around the corner. I'm not saying she should stop, but try harder, MUCH HARDER and learn portuguese first. Fado is very deep, you should respect it like a religion and feel it..if you understand what she says it touches you deeper like if you were mourning and makes you cry :'(
