Tim Holt who plays one of the lead roles was in The Magnificent Ambersons and the classic Treasure of Sierra Madre. The clip you show with Holt and the Mexican boy mirrors a scene with Humphrey Bogart in Treasure of Sierra Madre, quite funny! Holt made a lot of movies. He must have really needed a payday to make this film. Great post! I love your reviews.
this movie scared my mother and her cousin so bad, he had a wreck driving her home from it.(back when they were teens) she said it looks "silly" now, but when she was young it scared her silly and odviously my great cousin too.
Dang, I think I saw this movie when I was small. I remember the monster holding a guy in its mandibles underwater, and I remember a guy on a boat putting out its eye. That was all I recall of it, except I know it scared the crap out of me. I'm glad to finally know the movie's title (and that I didn't just imagine the whole thing).
@samcwic Glad it helped you remember that. Took me forever to remember the title to this film also. Luckily my dad seems to remember all these obscure american monster films.
This movie used to scare me back in the day too :D.
Nice Review: I actually watched this movie awhile back, and thought it was pretty good. The Monster itself looked pretty good, considering when it was made.
I read on Wikipedia that this film is thought to be, along with Creature from the Black Lagoon, a cinematic inspiration for Jaws. I have seen Creature, but not this film, and wondered about your opinion.
I imagine it could have easily been an inspiration for both. I don't really know how many other movies were made that are similar to Jaws. Cool piece of information though.
never seen this movie but it looks good
