you did a very good job analyzing the game. Although from title, I would expect some analysis of the actual gameplay. Yes the story was very good and it was great how they made the player press a few buttons during the cinematics, but how would you analyze the actual gameplay? Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the story... its just the gameplay in between that should really be analyzed when talking of post mortem game design. Especially in a FPS...

The campaing is short and bad. All flash, no substance. Pretty much the only memorable characters are the ones from CoD4 and Ghost because he looks cool. There's quite a few plot holes, the story overall is bad and it's easy as pie. The only great thing about the campaing is that it's not as linear as CoD4.

Exactly. Nothing makes success feel better than obtaining it after failure. Shepard was one diabolic asshole. You thought he was the good guy, then he turned out to be a domestic terrorist. The astronaut sequence had to be one of the single greatest cut-scenes ever, even though it was only 20 seconds. Killing Shepard was the greatest feeling in the entire campaign mode.

I have to say that Infinity Ward dropped the ball on this one. Dying over and over, seeing the main characters you played taken out time after time, was what caused me to think that this is the most frustrating and annoying game I've ever played. I don't mind loosing maybe one or two, but to simply see the heroes perish after spending all that time trying to keep them alive was, as I said, frustrating at best.

Get the first one. It's much more satisfying and less frustrating

As a gamer that has played (and loved) the three franchises you mentioned (Gears of war, Modern Warfare, and Halo) I must say I agree with your assesement, but would also like to point out that each game had it's moments in it's own ways. Halo brought us a complex world and massive, breathtaking environments, Gears of war brought us deep emotional connections to the characters (see dom and the search for his wife) while Modern warefare (as you pointed out) fed off our desire to succeed.

Sneaking around, crawling for your life, failing, and so on.. things that other games would have put in as cut scenes, or not had at all!! you actually stay in first person mode while dying, or climbing a ice-wall!! and that makes this game awsome!!

Just in case you may have missed the point; Infinity Ward has it's player in constant struggle so that in the end when the player ultimately attains the victory, it's that much more satisfying. It's an old technique used to lure the player into sympathizing the character.

I never thought about it the way the narrator described, but he's right, especially with the satisfaction of killing the last guy at the end (don't want to say his name for spoiler reasons). You really do feel more satisfied when he's dead because the game made you fail at it so many times earlier. Great video :)

Are you a bit dense? You play as Soap in some missions, and Nikolai never died or even got shot. Also, he wasn't technically 'in' the game, but Sheppard was some sort of commander during the MW1 nuke.
