Ghantasala maastaaru sang this slokam and dandakam all in single take.... Music Director Pendyaala virtually cried after seeing Ghantasaala in such emotional and fully involved in singing this saraswathi dandakam... .... Thanks for posting....
The only thing I don't like about this scene is the way Knowledge is gained - thru magic & miracles. That is not how the real world works - they say it takes 10,000 good long hours of consistent work to be good at anything. So u want knowledge - put in those 10,000 hours. Unfortunately that is a lot of hard, long work - easier to believe in this miracle, magic stuff.
@ramaraksha01 What you say is mostly true in mechanical sciences and other trades, but not so in the field of Arts. There is no guarantee that you can gain mastery to produce of the calibre of Kalidasa even after putting 1000000000 hours of conscious work ( oh, for sure, one can become a critic or commentator of poetry with much less effort). History is fully of examples where poets were made overnight. What is their trick? Devine inspiration, may be.
@junkjanardhan There are always going to be exceptions - the michael jordan's, the Einstein's, the Gandhiji's - but my point is to realize that some people are just born that way - to me that is what Moksha is all about - but to expect a magical transformation is teaching the wrong values - instead of putting honest effort & dealing with setbacks, some people go looking around for shortcuts. This should be discouraged.
Totally, Kalidasa would have been a much better poet had he read "The Tipping Point" and taken a sip from the eternal fountain of Wisdom from the West. India could have had its own Shakespeare.
Stupid guy went to his Mother instead. Same problem with us Indians.
@edCIITR , This shows your arrogance and ignorance, by calling Kalidasu as a stupid person. What are you to comment on him? and what eternal fountain of wisdom, you are referring to here. West was still an infant, when East was already at its epic. Try respect the elders first. Comparing 4th CE to 15 AD is ignorance.
what one has to note is the beeja aksharam into which an ignorant, innocent person was led into from the outside syllable into inside syllable...mothers grace...
sorry guys - anr is an overrated mediocre actor, there wasnt much choice back then... its also possible that the theatrical influence caused actors to google their eyes or make absurd expressions on their faces, and anr was pretty much doing all these things - there are some glimpses of naturality here and there, but he hasnt shown any eagerness to let it come out. his later movies, like seetarammayya gari manavaraalu, were much better, though still lacking. ahh well...
@mvrks69 Well said. That ANR is overrated is a gross understatement. He acts just about the same in every single role. He had the good fortune to be there at a time when there were not many good actors. He pales in comparison to many of his heroines such as Savithri, Bhanumathi, Saukar Janaki. He never even once "lived" in any role. If I must compare, he is hardly better than Rajesh Khanna and nowhere near Amitabh Bachan, let alone Dilip Kumar.
@iseeking , Comparing Amitabh to ANR is the most stupid thing, you could do. ANR played a variety of roles, not to mention his role in Devadasu. What exceptional roles did Amitabh did, compared to ANR. Amitabh may be a hero, who mostly played angry young man kinda characters, as a matter of fact, I actually saw his acting skills in other kinda of characters probably after his come back. But ANR had demostrated his skills in various roles.
Legend has it that Mahakavi Kalidasu who was known to all of those times as a illetrate and stupid , started spelling out these great compositions and he said that he has got the knowledge by the grace of the Goddess.
His compositions are available even today for all to see.
@no2nonsense That's nice but we shouldn't be depending on someone bailing us out - we should EARN whatever we get - that's the lesson of Karma & Rebirth.
@ramaraksha01 Actually....kalidasa's transformation didnt happen overnight....years and years of accumulated knowledge and good karmas made him ripe to recieve the grace of utlimate truth in this janma.....just becauseof some bad karmas of his previous birth he had to endure the stupid and ignorant phase of his life and when that was over....he was transformed...so it was not that someone bailed out....but that was just a trigger point
@prashanthgrama Good point thank you. Just don't like the miracle part - there are no miracles - miracles, prophecies are for the weak-minded who look for god to bail them out of difficulty. To me God is like a Teacher(Krishna saying he wouldn't fight, just give advice), only there to Teach & encourage - we have to fight life's battles on our own.

Dear Friends, it is only that we can see , How Universal mother grace turns a rustic into a great legend poet of Indian History.
We are no way to judge ANR or the How the moovie is picturized.
See how much in the olden days itself they synchronized wonderful emotional Ghantasala's vocie with the Actor..
thanks a lot for your comments.

@iseeking Have u seen the old Devadasu? With Savithri as Paro? You might change ur mind about ANR after u see that movie. He was perfect for the role
