How ironic, that ENGLISH TEACHER is teaching ENGLISH in japanese language. hahah weird, well that's what we call BILINGUALISM, BUT, it is only being used for the Children who have zero background in English.
The reason why ESL Students do not learn much is because of the limited exposure to the language. If you want to learn, you must practice speaking, 'coz that includes critical thinking, and definitely you will find it beneficial at the end of the day to talk and think in ENGLISH

I would highly recommend that this teacher go to training. You are teaching based on the grammar translation method. Teach based on the communicative approach! Good luck students!
