  • OMG my laptop os literally dricing me crazy, does this really wok yeah? as i am soo investing in a screw driver and doing this!

  • Kudos to you for posting this video I have just performed the repair, its fone at the mo, hope it stays that way! Thanks for posting this!

  • Thanks so much for this video. My screen was flickering and I sent it back to Acer under warranty. It took them 2 months and about 10 letters to "fix my screen". When I got it back the screen was still flickering...I saw your video and I decided to try and fix it myself. I opened up my screen to find all the screws were loose and that there was no tape to secure the cables. Ten minutes later with a screwdriver and a bit of tape my screen problem is history. Thanks so much for the help !!!

  • I have an acer aspire one notebook and it flickers a lot ,it's getting annoying, can somebody please help me??, this is the only tool I can use to do my homework and stuff I got no money to buy a new one :S.

  • Is it hard to just replace the wiring rather than just doing this quick fix? I'm having the same issue, but was looking for a more of

    a permanent fix.

  • OMG>.. I cant believe it..... I spent £70 at our local computer shop to be told it was the inverter which they replaced. Two days later it flickered again and has gotten worse. I opened it up.... put the loo roll in and HEY PRESTO!!!! What more can I say thatn you so much, I will use a sticky pad if it starts to flicker again but so far so good!!! Thank you so much for sharing this video (although I am annoyed at the shop now!!! )

  • Same problem here with Acer 5530g

  • Thanks, problem solved. I used a double sided mirror sticky pad rather than a bit of paper towel so hope for a more permanent solution.

  • have another model im gonna send it back to acer for repair, i have a guanrantie. so why not fix it. and my battery is dead :/

  • know if there's a way to control the fan speed? overheating here and it's causing the display adapter to reset and recover. vents are clean too. poor me...

  • @izlude2 There are fixes available for overheating. The problem is usually one of two things, either the cooling fan and the innards are clogged up with dust and the laptop needs to be opened & cleaned or there is insufficient thermal paste between the cpu & heatsink. (Message me if you feel ready to tackle either of those & I'll give extra advice). The other option is buying a cooling fan base (look in amazon for Acer Cooling Pad).

  • @Christorix you are so awesome! the thermal paste thing never struck my mind. would arctic 5 suffice? :)

  • @izlude2 That should do just fine. :-)

  • seem to of fixed my one. Gave the cable a twist before connecting to main board to keep an even tension on the plug then used tape to secure. seems to of done the job. Thanks Andy.

  • I did this with my laptop which has the same problem but it didn't fix the problem and what's even worse is that the flickering is getting worse now, before it would flicker for a few secs and that was it, it didn't really interfere that much but now it's flickering for several minutes and it makes the whole screen disappear behind a curtain of white. I am really starting to hate this laptop but I cannot afford a new one even though I really need a new laptop. Not buying Acer again

  • Found a cut down plastic straw works better than a kitchen towel.

  • This flickering problem started a couple of weeks ago for me and my warranty has long since expired, so there is no sending it in. Tried this and it worked for a few minutes, but the flicker is back. I wish it would have worked because I get fed up with this sort of issue quick.

  • thank you so so so so much!!!!!

  • For me i got a new video card and my Monitor start to flicker when i play a game after i quit it stops.I change the vga cable and now it doesn't let me chose my monitor native res(1440x900) And if i chose higher than 1280x720 there is little flickering.

  • You're a freakin' hero! I've been plagued with this problem almost 2 years now... but it wasn't this serious before.. only now, iRealized it was the LCD ribbon too.. because when I press my thumb there on the spot of the cable it turns back to normal, just for a min or two ;)) Anyways thank you! :* >:D<

  • Thankyou! :D

  • That's Great Mate, it fixed my flickering problem.

  • I am very sorry. I have this same problem. I was told to replace the LCD cable. I tried the paper towel trick and it worked for a short time and Started again. It also made some sound come out of my speakers? Was I supposed to tape around the socket as well?

  • Great video. I used some duct tape myself. And, fingers crossed, it works so far (a month now) without so much as a minor flicker.

  • Absolutely brilliant, thanks so much for this. I did exactly what you did and it solved the problem outright. What a legend you are :]

  • ive had this problem ever since i bought it 1.5 yrs ago and i did as you did after seeing ur vid and so far so good! fingers crossed thanks a lot!!!!

  • Thanks dude, I have had this problem and thought that as I bought a demo model I ought to just accept what I got, Thanks again!

  • cheers m8 im gonnna try this i have the 6930g, virtually the same back same battery location the only thing thats different is the cable sits on the right no the left but its still just as reatarded, when will acer learn erganomics ? it opens the same despite looing different if this works dude u need more credit because been looking for a solution and the reason for over a year now for 6930g

  • thank hurst751, u allready settled my biggers problem.. Tqvm

  • thanks dude its worked

  • I've just done this, and it worked. I used folded up electrical tape instead of tissue though, didn't want to risk it catching fire or anything.

  • I have the same laptop with the same problem. When I manage to get some little screw drivers, I'll have a bash at this.

  • Great video hurst! I originally found this video in July 2010 and carried out the repairs and it worked great for a good 4 months. Then i saw the ocassional flicker, so i watched this video again and just replaced the tissue lol.

    Great help this video was!!

    Thank you so much!! :-)

  • I'm having the same issue, I had the screening flickering before and sent it into acer repair centre which got fixed however now it's started again and I can't send it to acer again as it's out of warranty, will take it apart at some point and see if I can fix it myself. The guy who fixed it did say it was a cable that had come out of it's holder.

  • @FullCircle360D I had the same flickering problem. I just used some electrical tape to INDIVIDUALLY tape those 2 wires the guy in the video was yanking on.

  • @comecindy Do you know where I can the repair manual for my acer aspire 5573z?

I have a similar flickering screen issue.

  • @buttbhai12 No, I just searched youtube for help. Not in my case but for others the solution was just to (reconnect and) retape the connection between the video cable and motherboard.

  • aluminum tape on inside of the lcd bezel on this 6930 was causing the bad screen flicker or interference,. remove the aluminum tape on the inside of lcd bezel, over the power inverter.

(no faulty cable here, new cable was installed)

  • Thanks for this, I opened it up and found the connector. For good measure I cleaned the contacts of the connector with switch cleaner fluid.

    It's been perfect ever since!!

    Thanks again.

  • I had the same problem even after sending it to Acer. Now out of warranty, was pulling my hair out with the flickering. Came across your videos and 15 minutes later my laptop is as good as new. Did both techniques you described so don't know which one solved the problem. Extremely grateful. Thank you very much.

  • Works perfect, been meaning to to do this for a while but finally got the point where i couldn't take the flickering any longer.

Such a simple fix and has sorted mine out instantly.

  • i have the acer aspire 6930g \the screen looks as though a pen has burst on the inside of it around the built in webcam area.and ran all the way down the left side of the screen as well theres a white distorted line straight down the screen.not long before it happened i cleaned the screen and around the laptop with a soft wipe as i have done wany times and just wonder if its possible that is the cause of my problem.any suggestions would be appreciated as to how to resolve this thanks

  • Thanks for the idea.... I've finally fixed my acer4715z...by just putting 3m Scotch mounting tape on the surface of the small cover to push down the cord covered with black cloth.....so it will never move again....hopefully!!!!! Really great thanks...!!!!!

  • Are you sure it's the cable? i disabled powermizer and it worked quite well for a while. Also it's only happening to me with the newer 180 drivers.

  • Thankyou for this. Mine has just started and almost never happens. I have a 5920G and it happens rarely so I guess I have the same problem as you right?

  • i had this lappy i loved but returned because of this problem! shame!

  • Thank you soooooooo much for sharing this, I had this problem about a year ago and sent my computer back to Acer 4 times, finally got it and the flicker came every now and then, but a few days ago...it was just unbearable....today I ran across your video and for the past 3 hrs NOT one flicker....thank u some much. God Bless!

As for the heat... I purchased the Porta Book and it has helped a great deal. Good Luck!

  • I've had the same problem for months and months, my solution was to angrily hit the back of the screen at the bottom near the hinges.... Violent as it is, it almost always works.. Haha but now that I've seen this video and realize what the problem really is I'll definitely be fixing the problem! Thanks for the video!!

  • Thank you so much!!!

  • thankyou so much! I believe you have saved my sanity and the life of my laptop, - which would have been thrown out of the window soon!

The video was difficult to watch with my flickering screen though to start with, - perfect now!

    Excellent :-)

  • thanks hurst751 your fix is just the key i was going to take my laptop to repair shop but i see your video on youtube ant tryed it and it works so well you saved me so much money once agen thank you for this video

  • Hello hurst751, my 5920 developed this problem over a year ago, so I sent it off to a laptop specialist who fixed it but cost me £50 and I was without it for two weeks. It has now come back again big time, but after watching your video, I followed your instructions and Result., no more flickering.

Thanks for putting your time and effort in to making the video and helping us all out.

  • nice shoes

  • Struggled with this issue for over a year now, constant flicker and depending on the angle the backlight would turn off altogether! Now 'tis no more thanks to your video. I didn't take off the panel around the LCD, just the one at the power button. Played around with the cable for a bit, used kitchen towel and jammed it in where the hinge is with a small screwdriver and now it's absolutely perfect! Thank you!

  • ah thanks so much for this! i sent mine off for repairs about a year ago and acer fixed it fine but it's started again now, it's so infuriating. but i think i'll try this now (or at least get someone a bit more computer literate than me to) :)

  • Thanks a lot for the video. My flickering problems reached the point where the screen would be constantly black with random red lines. I followed your instructions to open the power panel and found readjusting the LCD cable a little solved the whole things. Thanks again!

  • @vonmixer mine does the same red flicker lines how long does it last if ya do what this bloke did

  • @quinny7thurston I didn't actually do anything, I used his instructions to open the front panel and just readjust the position of the LCD cable a wee bit. Since then my screen has been perfect, not a single flicker.

  • Thankyou very much for your advice kitchen towel works a treat. when I pressed down on the hinge the screen stopped flickering and when I took my finger off it started again. Very cheap way of fixing, better than acer repairs.

  • Hey, thanks for this, i did what you said in the vid with the cable and the screen flicker has gone! well for 2 days, we'll see how long it lasts!! such a shame really as apart from the flicker (which almost got it tossed out the window) it's a brilliant laptop!

  • haha, hurst751 it's truly VERY kind of you to share your knowledge on fixing this issue! I have a brand new acer aspire one 750h netbook with a.... guess what?.... wait for it....... a SCREEN FLICKERING problem!! Do u have a vid of fixing the netbooks? I will have to go back this Monday to the store and get a refund, or maybe a switch-up or repair, but with this video I will be able to ask some pertinent questions and sound like I know what I'm talking about :D

    thanks again

  • I have an ACer 5100 series. The screen start flickering after the laptop has been on for awhile. Never does it at start up. Something is overheating I think. I have tried all the different drivers and even different OS"s with no luck.

  • sir please show a vid on how to change an acer 5534 processor, i cant disassemble it..

  • i have a aspire 6930G

i dont know isit the same way?

  • You didn't send it back to acer? Mine developed a fault and they wouldn't repair it under warranty, they are the biggest bunch of idiots and I hope they go out of business.

  • Hi. Glad I found your video, me too have the same problem with my acer 4710 inspite of tightening the lcd cable behind the screen. It works fine without flickering for some days & then starts all over again!! Just wanted to ask you if your laptop flickering problem solved post this video? pls update regarding the same. Thanks

  • Great Video .... was the exact problem. Thanks M8

  • Cheers, seems to be working a charm!

  • Thank you very much...

  • thanks very much. had this problem from the off more or less. since i installed vista ultimate (what a joke). i think i might have fixed it. i will let you know if it starts again. cheers once again. :)

  • No probs.

  • Me and my sister has this laptop and her's has this flickering problem. But she's sending it off to acer for them to fix it.

  • If you've read any of the forums, you will find that many people in the past have not had a good experience with the Acer repair people. Maybe they have watched this video, in which case they will now have a solution.

Either way, its going to cost you time and money. Let me know how you get on. Good luck.

    Either

  • Hey mate, Great video!!

I also have the same laptop. But mines tends to over heat,,,

You got any advise on this

    thank you

  • Sorry Vinh. No advice. I must admit that mine gets hot too but with no apparent problems.

  • @vinh112 I had a problem with overheated laptop and I sent it to repair with no success even though they said so, a friend told me to vacuume the PC. so the problem wasn't the PC for me, it was the dust that had layed over the fan. Maybe it will help. :) Good luck!

  • Ill try that with my dvd player ,,,

    should b the same

  • Lovely, managed to fix mine now. isn't it a joke that Acer haven't sorted this out. Thanks

  • Thanks you have just saved me some time and money, the problem stopped once I opened the cover.

  • Wow, just opening it seemed to solve the problem, but I did the kitchen towel fix anyways, and so far, after about an hour, no flickering. :)

    Thanks man :)

  • the laptop fell more or less a meter to the ground some months back, and i could see the baclight lit a bit less on the left side after that...but it has worked nice anyway!....So it might be since it hit the floor....

  • just that i cant see the drivers so i cant choose "both on same screen" on my aspire 5920G...anooying for sure...but im sure glad u showed how to look up the connectors...gonna do that tomorrow and report back!

  • I have a realy freaking rare problem with my aspire 5920G..Im gonna check the cables tomorrow....but mine boots all fine into windows...no beeps no nothing...and i can hear windows start and all...But i have no picture..Ive tried an external monitor..But it will not give a signal at all...But i tried the crt screen on another laptop and i had to choose in drivers "same on both screens" then it worked on that laptop..so im not sure if its the cables or the GPU thats fried..hmm

  • I appreciate your help. My problem has been solved too.

    Thank's

  • Hi, this is great. I managed to fix the flickering problem but introduced a new one in the process - now the backlight doesn't seem to work properly. The screen is very dark - not so dark that I can't see it but dark as though the laptop is on low battery power. If I use the Fn keys to increase the light, it works for a short while. Any ideas? Could I have disrupted the inverter?

  • I've just uploaded a vid for sorting out the other end of the cable - this may help.

  • This is a great instructional video for one of the most annoying problems I've ever experienced with a laptop. I've not even tried to get acer to fix the problem because of all the bad things I've heard. As soon as I took the cover off the screen flicker stopped! However, I've done what one of the others on here did and put kitched towel near the hinge so didn't take the screen surround off. So far so good. Although i've only had it on for 5 minutes! Here's hoping it stays fixed

  • i keep watching you video , and i need to know where is the other video were you open the backpart. that way i can be sure of what i am doing exactly .

    thanks again.

  • Vid for backpart uploaded

  • Oh, and has anyone addressed the Acer Crystal Eye webcam flicker? I wiped the HD and installed Vista Enterprise, and now I can't seem to find a set of drivers that really work. Right now the image quality looks like a mirror, some tin foil, and chewing gum are combining to provide a wretched picture, so I'm about to just go buy an aftermarket cam.

  • Awesome vid, I'm going to email the fools at Acer the link so that they can train their service employees to address this issue the first time! I was told it was an issue with the display adapter overheating, and this only after I (apparently incorrectly) suggested that this was the problem. I will never, ever, buy another Acer product under any circumstances.

  • Excellent video, helped me resolve my annoying flickering issue!

I did a slight variation on your kitchen-towel placement and put a bit in between the hinge and cable where it bends downwards, which meant I didnt have to take off the cover around the actual LCD screen.

    So far, no flicker!

Took about 2 minutes and only cost me about 1/4 of a piece of kitchen towel!

    Thanks again. :)

  • But again, the same stupid flicker came with in 3 days. I got pissed with my laptop and continued using it by restarting the laptop whenever the flicker appears. Some times it worked and some times it doesn't. I have searched many posts and forums, but couldn't find the right solution. I am always afraid to open my laptop to fix it myself. With your excellent illustration, now I have opened it and fixed the cable and no more flicker!! Once again thank you very much :)

  • you are the best, i spent $200 imagine , $200 , for sending my laptop for repair, and every time it came back flickering after a week or so , now after putting in a little bit of board beside the connector it stooped moving and haven't had a flicker in weeks. hope the flickering doesn't come back ::D thanks still ... your the best

  • No probs. Did you get the camera flicker sorted? The LCD power cable splits in two after it enters the screen assembly next to the hinge, with the second part being the power cable for the webcam. You can unplug it and plug it back in which will probably do the trick.

I'm sure most will agree its a great laptop, but Acer must have employed chimps to assemble them. No offence to chimps intended.

  • thanks for the info . i am kinda scared to open up the back part of the laptop , i just opened the power button cover, and place the foam boards beside the cable to stop it from pulling , and that was it . the cables were so thin that i was afraid of ripping it out : D. .

do you have a guide for that one as well ? :D

  • i did as you have instructed and the flickering seem to have stoped for now, do you think it will happen again ? is it really an issue with the flat cable ?

man i have another issue , my camera is also flicking , it has green flickering lines , do you think it is a cable issue. or , a software issue

  • great, hope this helps me out , i really don't need to open it does the power board thingy come off easily .? your really a great guy for posting this , so i just need to place something there for it to stop flickering ? should i do anything special besides that ?

  • Just as the video says. I have had messages from a few people saying that the have had to re-attach the connection at the back of the screen. Either way, this is a starting point for you. If it doesn't work let me know and I will walk you thru the screen work.

  • Fantastic. Thank you.

I have watched your video and opened up my laptop for the very first time and seem to have cured a very long standing and frustrating problem. I did need to get to the connection behind the sreen as this seemed to be loose. Brilliant. Thanks again.
