I keep hearing bad things about BC Rich...

Personally, I think they're good guitars. Not exactly suited for anything lighter than power metal in terms of shapes, but otherwise just fine.

They do have your average Strat style guitar, but they usually come with 2 humbuckers and a pointy, tuning-peg-down headstock. Either that or a paintjob that begs to be used for thrash metal.

not a fan of the bc rich. i like the paint, not the body style, inlays or pickups. nice floyd rose (FR and i have a love hate relationship) and the reverse headstock. i have a Gibson SG Special. i like it, little on the twangy side though, real thin sound; not as full as i would like. Jackson DMGX reverse dinky is probably the best guitar ive owned. hated the inability to stay in tune though.

Vinedude, you are right.  The classic BC Rich's (like your Ironbird) are great. In the 80's, BC Rich was a very respected guitar manufacturer. Once Bernie Rico and his son were no longer involved (90's), the company was sold off and made really shitty guitars. They're making a great comeback though these days in their higher end models.
