OK - I get the point about the bloodflow and meat cleanliness (although less releveant in 21st century) ... but to say that "scientifically" the animal feels no pain is actually plain wrong. The pain nerves are in the spine, which is un-severed. Even if the animal didn't feel pain, they are feeling intense stress for up to 5 mins - as you would do if your throat was slit and your brain was not getting oxygen.
Imagine it for yourself. Would you prefer to die by stun-bolt or zabiha halal?

@oo7bhai Actually, I take it back. I have now done some research (I'm a scientist, after all!) and I have to say that I've changed my mind. EEG studies done on animals undergoing halal slaughter show little pain, with animals going to sleep quickly even as their body convulses dramatically. Meanwhile bolt guns (which look kinder) don't just 'stun' - they also cause severe pain. So even though they look better, appearances can deceive.
