This man is truly a National Treasure, and in a world were the word "genius" doesn't apply to many to whom it is used there is simply no better way to describe him, his talent is staggering!
@Babyhowdy233 Definitely. Over the past 50 yrs i've come to realise that Mose said it all back in the 1950s. His lyrics are humourous but also 200% accurate. He's up on the list beside Billy Strayhorn & Duke Ellington.
I have ALL of Amy's CDs. I think that she is a fabulous songwriter. Her voice is unique, but it lovely once you set aside your commercially conditioned interpretation of acceptable vocals. It kind of reminds me of the Concert For Bangladesh. Everyone applauds Ravi when he is tuning up. They can't tell the difference. This is all due to conditioning from those self serving folks who want to limit what we can hear, so that we buy what they want to sell.
I couldn't have said it better! I just had the honor of interviewing Mose and I will soon have the honor of interviewing Amy and frankly I am tickled pink to be able to talk to BOTH generations of Allison genius!
This is so beautiful that I can only be grateful to be alive to have heard it. She sounds like an animated honey bee! Can you imagine her trying out on American Idol? They'd never get it. I SO get it, it's HER, she was loved and is loved and now, obviously many of us love her too. Thank you so much for posting this. Oh and Mose rocks, of course.
What many folks aren't aware of when they listen to this exquisite rendition is that this is AMY's lovely interpretation of her father's classic song. When you listen to Mose's original recording he clearly is playing this song for LAUGHS:he gives it a comical twist. But when Amy heard it she was able to recognize it's DEEPER significance. In her skillful hands it blossomed into a tender, poignant reflection on humanity's mortality. The performance here is HER arrangement.
This is too cool.. Sweet stuff. Gotta love youtube for exactly this kind of intimacy. Mose is an original.. always has been, and always will be. "But beautiful!"
thanks Amy and Mose - good to know you was out there singing a beautiful song like this together when now was back when. And Mose.... please come back to Toronto whenever you can.
Saw Mose in Woonsocket, Rhode Island early in September, having previously seen him at least twenty-five years earlier in a little club in Worcester, Mass. All this, years after I had bought his "greatest hits" compilation on Atlantic as a kid in the late sixties.
What a beautiful, unpretentious, expressive evening we all shared.
I was struck by Mose's line, "If I was sellin' fantasy, I'd be a millionaire."
Yeah, baby, but if that had happened, how much poorer we all would be.
I first heard Mose on an L.P. playing in a dodgy flat in Liverpool 8 when I was a university student there in 1960. Been a fan ever since. Long live Mose Allison. A great original.
I totally agree with wardwhet - Beautiful & exquisite. Amy's unpretentious vocal is perfect, and the song is one of Mose's best - mysterious & gorgeous.
this was shot by Richard Numeroff and Sound Recorded by Sean O'neil for a doc on Mose... this scene didn't make it into the final cut... but she's got a unique sound that she uses well... has no illusions... there is a tenderness of her reaching out to Mose that i hope comes thruogh a bit...
No one cooler than Mose Allison! Like a fine wine, he just gets better with age. Saw him for the first in 1964 in San Francisco. Have seen him many times since and will see him again when he comes to Los Gatos in July. Long live Mose!
I think it's beautifully done...the main thing with music is it should come from a place deep within.
Bob Dylan isn't the world's greatest singer but it's how it's put across.
There's alot of love here.

When am becomes was and now is back when Will someone have moments like this: Moments of unspoken bliss.
And will there be heroes and saints
Or just a dark new age of complaints? When I become was and we become were Will there be any Susans and Ralphs
Lookin' at old photographs And wondering aloud to a friend "What was it like to be them?"

When I become was and we become were
Will there be any sign or a trace of the lovely contour of your face?
And will there be someone around
With essentially my kinda sound?

I have a "preview" copy of Amy's upcoming Cd and let me tell you it is BRILLIANT!!
I had the pleasure of interviewing her for American Songwriter magazine and
if there were any justice she would be a household name, she carries her father's
name proudly.
proud.

A classic example of what happens when a famous parent gets offspring some big breaks. It's like listening to Marge Simpson
