  • Humans (unlike iron byron) have two legs to pivot around. The weight shift from one leg to the other requires a hip slide first THEN followed by a hip turn. Peter Kostis, Johnny Miller and the likes of them are the main reason why golf is so mysterious to so many.

  • the lateral shift causes an increase in the angle.... look at hogan or sergio....

  • Peter is nuts.>>>>> Brian Manzella has taught him well!

  • This is crap-he has to slide a little laterally before the turn,

  • kostis is so full of shit

  • Trackman data suggests that high launch (postive attack angle) combined with a lower spin rate (function of spin loft) is the best way to optimize the driver. Smash factor is more important than club head spead. The higher the club head speed the tougher it is to find the sweetspot. No doubt club head speed is a key component. Kevin Streelman added 25 yards to his drives by doing what I suggested and did not increase his clubhead speed a lick.

  • Peter Kostis is a moron! I would rather lose a little bit of the lag angle in order to hit up on it. You will gain more yards optimizing the launch conditions than adding a couple mph to the swing.

  • @bobscottjnr well, actually that is almost the opposite of what is actually true. check the stats on pgatour.com if you don't believe me.

  • @miltongoswell What are you talking about?

  • @bobscottjnr some of the biggest hitters on the pga tour have high spin rates, and they hit it further because they have more clubhead speed.

  • @miltongoswell this is not something that is answered with a blanket statement. for golfers on the tour, trackman can calculate their optimum spin given their launch conditions and THAT will find them the most distance. as a general rule, the tour players want high launch and low spin. you know what spin does to driver shots? it makes them go up. not forward. however, once you get into amateurs with low ball speed, the spin rate will help them drive the ball further through more carry.

  • @miltongoswell go to trackman.dk and check out their media section newsletters. there's the truth.

btw...bubba watson has the highest launch and lowest spin on tour for sure. result? he's a beast. google maximizing driver distance using trackman. another truth. theories can be well-meaning, yes, but the truth is in the numbers.

  • @dschultz6072 yeah i know what you are saying but what i am trying to say is that the number one reason for hitting it long is high club head speed. taking off the spin can add maybe ten to fifteen yards, but the difference is bigger for people with higher club head speed.

  • @MizunoMP94 you wish
