Hey, I have a 'mini display port + usb audio to HDMI adapter' made by monoprice - do I still need an hdmi cable to connect my macbook to my tv? Thank you
yes plz answer this question , how to get ONLY TV display not both of them cz TV display is not as good as it shud b via HDMI .. is there any way to improve the display and get only tv display??
@SwinGclan yes u can get all the stuff , go to display properties and in advance jst click on Mirror image..u will have the same image on laptop and TV display..dock n stuff n all
What if the option to mirror it doesn't show? Also all I see on the tv is no signal. It worked for a minute and then nothing, no mirror thing either .. please help?!
Hey i have question what if the screen is off a little bit to where i cant see everything on my tv. What do i do? if you could will you message me what to do
instead of having both displays on all the times is there a way to have only the HDTV display only while the Mac goes on Screen saver? so both displays wont have to be on all the times.
hi Very good video, but what I need to do is to go from my mini display port (thunderbolt) of my iMac to 2 or more TV's. A splitter does not work, i plugged the HDMI portion of the mini display port into one of the HDMI sections of my Y the plugged the bottom part of the Y into the TV's HDMI port. This did not work either. I'm stumped, can you help?
Hey great video man. I had a question, I was able to mirror display from my macbook to my JVC HD TV, but nothing but the background is visible.. meaning no icons and dock are seen on the JVC.. It seems like they may be off to one side where my screen is not capturing it. Any tips? Thanks!!
Hey man. I recently bought Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter / Converter cable by Cablesson® (for Unibody MacBook - Pro - Air - Supports new THUNDERBOLT port + PC etc.) and Wired--up v1.3A HDMI to HDMI Gold Plated Connectors 1.8m Cable for HD TV's/ Xbox 360/ PS3....BUT, the mini port doesn't fit/work with my MBP 3.1. Any idea which Mini display port to hdmi adaptor would be compatible with mine?
Hey :) I purchased the Moshi HDMI Adapter and used it to connect an iMac 9,1 to an hdmi but the image looks reeeeeaaaaaally bad and I don't know what the problem could be D: anyone knows something?
I connect my rocketfish miniport adapter and even when i add my HDMI cable no moniter shows on my Macbook Pro for some reason it just turns blue for a second and nothing appears. can you help?
On the MacBook it doesn't work on the model prior 2011. It just works on MacBook, iMacs, etc. which do have Thunderbolt. The "old" Mini Display Port doesn not transfer any sound.
@DarkGeneral86 Hey there. Just read your post. I'm having a bit of trouble and I'm hoping that I can resolve it without having to buy a newer Macbook pro. I bought mine back in 2008, it's 3.1 and I recently (mistakenly) bought Apple Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter / Converter cable by Cablesson® (for Unibody MacBook - Pro - Air - Supports new THUNDERBOLT port + PC etc.) and a hdmi cable. Well, you guessed it-didn't fit. Any possible solutions you could suggest? Cheers
hey if you plug your macbook into your tv does it give u more desktop space? or does it just scale everything up? do u know what i mean? like if you hook your macbook up to an official cinema display it makes it into a full feature mac just about with the files staying the same size as on a macbook but there is more desktop room and window room and status bar room.... :) thanks soooo much!
great video, but dumb question time: when you're done viewing on the external display, do you simply pull the mini displayport out of your mac or is there a process to follow? just want to err on the side of caution as not to cause any hidden damage.
Moshi Mini DP has Audio bypass* (for select systems). That means that it will send audio to your TV through the HDMI, no extra cords or tricks to hook up. Apple sells this on their website, and its $35 rather then this $10 video only DP adapter.
So if you have the extra money, and hate wires. . . you know what to do.
You do not need any other adapters nor wires nor speakers to have sound if your TV or monitor has sound. After hooking up the one adapter and HDMI cable that he is showing you from your Mac to your tv, and making sure your Mac has recognized your tv, go into your system preferences on your Mac and click on Sounds. In there you will see that you can now select your TV speakers to play the sound through.
hi i brought one of those mini display adapters and hdmi lead all it does is the mac flashs blue then nothing appears on the tv? its a sony bravia any clues?
i just bought one of these for my mac book pro it's made by rocketfish but when i hook it up to the HDMI port it just gives me a black/green screen. can anyone help me?
Hi, your video was very useful for me and my friends but I have one problem. When I connect the audio cable I can hear any sound from the TV (Samsung 40'' LED) either from the Mac Book. Do you know what should I do?
@Wilder0014 Yes there is.
Is this illegal? I just read on slashgear that HDMI to MiniDisplayPort is illegal because doesn't fit the requirements. Or is that just the cable and not the dongle?
Hello my friend, I just bought the Kanex adapter V2 and plugged on my fullHD TV, and I dont know why but wen active the mirroring and set the 1080p resolution for TV the resolution don't work, I can use only the Mac display resolution on TV, even showing that tv is on 1080p resolution, in fact the real resolution are the same as the mac display 1280x800. hey you know some button that could turn on mirroring? coz i broke my monitor accidently and i want to use my hdtv to replace my monitor. I can't see anything and I can't just click the monitor display
will i have sound, i have the mid 2009 model and i was wondering if sound will work. i know it works with the later models. Which model did you have when making this video?
so if you pick mirroring, will you be able to use your monitors max resolution or the macs max resolution because i want to display in the monitors resolution, because it is a lot higher, please answer. I really want to know.
Don't do what I did and connect the miniport end upside down. (The HDMI end will only connect the correct way. The miniport end CAN be connected incorrectly.)

Hi. I have a Sony WEGA. I am using the mini display made by apple with a belkin adapter. I have it plugged into the same hdmi port on my receiver as I had my PS3 (which is how I watched video until my PS3 died). The computer recognizes the tv, but the tv screen is still black. How do I fix this?? Thanks!
good vid & cool guy, but!, no, you dont need an audio cable or speakers to listen to your videos .. you just need to go to preferences in your beautiful Mac and select the tv as the main sound output .. it is as simple as that .. cool vid anyway!
I'm impressed with how much this kid knows about electronics and how well spoken he is... what are you, like 14? If this is the future generation, we will have biodegradable flying cars by 2030. Good job dude.
1- do i have to rearrange the preferences and the turn one mirroring thing everytime i connect my macbook to the LCD or is it gonna be saved automaticly once i put them???
2-if i close the macbook, will i still be able to work on the lcd ??(ofcourse if i connect the wirless apple keyboard and the wirless mousse to the macbook)
hey bro nice vid i think you got this vga to hdmi before apple and a brand named dynex which is the exact same vga to hdmi port before those came out if you buy those ones the sound does work through those ones you just need to adjust your settings to external speakers on your tv just letting you know incase you want to take away the hassle of having two chrods plugged up to your mac
Hi! Umm I connected my Mac and it works successfully but I couldnt find any resolution that didn't have black bars on the sides. If I chose any other resolution the top finder bar and the dock are cut off :( any suggestions? Thanks!!! :) Oh and umm do u know how to change the zooming on the Mac desktop? Everything looks big and I want to format the size of the windows to the size of the tv, thanks :)
I need help connecting my macbook pro to my hdtv. I got a Mitsubishi 65" HDTV, but whenever I try to connect my macbook pro it seems like it doesn't recognize it, but I see the mac flash blue then back to the normal desktop so it looks like my macbook pro detected it, but I can't see the external monitor thing in the displays. The TV seems like it just doesn't detect the macbook pro because it just idles on the default blue screen.
@elitestar Hi, Im not exactly sure what the issue is. Make sure its on the right setting on the TV. Also, plug in the hdmi into the TV and the other end into the mini display port, then the mini display into the mac. Should work with no problem, but I've noticed that people are having issues with the MBPs. I will be getting the new MBP when they refresh in 1-2 month. I will be able to test it then.
Thanks so much for your comment!
I will make an update video once I get the new MBP.

I've got an ATI Radeon 5970 that has 2x DVI and Mini Display Port. If I use this Mini DP/HDMI Converter to connect my PC to my TV, would it transfer VIDEO and AUDIO?
Thanks :)
matixitam 11 months ago
@matixitam You have to check the products info, the one I use in the video dosent transfer audio. You have to have external speakers.

Thanks!

good vid & cool guy, but!, no, you dont need an audio cable or speakers to listen to your videos .. you just need to go to preferences in your beautiful Mac and select the tv as the main sound output .. it is as simple as that .. cool vid anyway!

hey bro nice vid i think you got this vga to hdmi before apple and a brand named dynex which is the exact same vga to hdmi port before those came out if you buy those ones the sound does work through those ones you just need to adjust your settings to external speakers on your tv just letting you know incase you want to take away the hassle of having two chrods plugged up to your mac

TheAccount2econd 1 year ago
@TheAccount2econd Try choosing different resolutions for both of the displays.

The TV seems like it just doesn't detect the macbook pro because it just idles on the default blue screen.
elitestar 1 year ago
@elitestar Hi, Im not exactly sure what the issue is. Make sure its on the right setting on the TV. Also, plug in the hdmi into the TV and the other end into the mini display port, then the mini display into the mac. Should work with no problem, but I've noticed that people are having issues with the MBPs. I will be getting the new MBP when they refresh in 1-2 month. I will be able to test it then.
Thanks so much for your comment!
I will make an update video once I get the new MBP.
