The reason why so many people are religious is because they are too dumb to think for themselves. They're scared that they'll be outcasts if they don't go through the motions. They figure that since they started "believing" at birth because their parents indoctrinated them why stop now? It's convenient to submit to what's popular.
i really don't think this comes as a surprise to atheists. since we are constantly challenged about our lack of belief. and the burden of proof is put on is. a majority of atheists do learn about religion. all religions.
meanwhile the faithful don't even bother to learn about their own.

In some, if not many cases, people have gone through quite a process of educating themselves about the religion they grew up in to eventually land on atheism. It's not as much of a coincidence that many atheists actually encourage others to read their own religious literature.
Is it news to everyone that athiests and agnostics are vastly smarter than religious people? It's been a known stat for a long time. We just don't brag about it. Ooops.... I just did.
These "experts" missed the most obvious reason: The more you know about religion, the more likely you are to become atheist/agnostic; the more ignorant you are, the more likely you are to be superstitious.
Theists can't question their scripture in order to keep their faith and that turns them into ignorant people relating to both religion and science. They are basically tools.
I'm actually very impressed with both of them. The christain didn't tell the atheist to burn in hell, and the atheist sat close to the theist. I would've been a few feet away
