@hurricanekeefe It's a bit fast, but I guess I can hear how it might sound a bit German. Sousa was a bit more robust than, say, Blankenburg, Zehle, or J.F.Wagner, although I've commonly heard Wagner's "Unter Dem Doppeladler" mistakenly credited to Sousa... Or were you just making an offensive joke? (I think you meant "sieg heil").
Years ago on WOR radio John Gambling II had a segment called the "March Around the Breakfast Table" and would put on these wonderful old Sousa marches. Even in the 1950s and 1960s we grew up with John Philip's marches.
@LePrince1890 : I remember those segments, too, but I think Don McNeill originated the march around the breakfast table with the "Call to Breakfast" on his "Breakfast Club" radio show. Always used to enjoy the give-&-takes between Gambling & Peter Roberts.
He's also got great recordings of other marches, like The stars and stripes forever,The Royal Welch Fusiliers,Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, and Bullets and Bayonets to name a few.

@schlesmail I remember Peter Roberts enjoyed talking about the "grackle" and reciting a two line couplet about it being "a noble bird".
