Oo you saved the reservation fee of 11€ and travelled first class on a ICE? Where is the logic behind that? first class in such a long distance travel in an ICE is reaaaallly expensive!
For ICE, you can reservate your seat, but you don't have to. First class or second class doens't matter. And a eurail (global) pass is always valid in 1st class. So, i don't see the problem.
@slimmerikje no problem at all:) I just didn't know that eurail pass is valid in 1st class! that's awesome, prices for 1st are over the top in germany for normal people.

NORMAL price for 1. class trip Mannheim - Berlin is 193 € vs. 120€ 2. class. so more than 50% more expensive.
I'm not talking about special prices because I compared it to a eurail ticket with which you can travel like with a NORMAL price ticket - without being fixed on a specific train or having to book at least 3 days in advance. I'm not saying DB is expensive per se. It IS expensive if you travel like this though

I give you 3 examples:
Thalys Brussels-Koln in 1st class: lowest price 29 euro
ICE Koln-Amsterdam in 1st class: lowest price 39 euro
ICE koln-berlin in 1st class: lowest price 49 euro
