Thanks for showing this to teach folks where this stuff got its start. . So many young 'uns do not have a clue where those hp hop beats and samples came from.. now they do.
PROPS on Herb Alpert...WOW.! Been listening to him ever since I heard The Lonely Bull when I worked in the grocery store as a kid. He's GOOD! Rise! I know you did that song on an earlier video too.
This that funky shit, this that shit that will make you stay up past your bedtime and hit repeat over and over and over again, thats how funky this shit is - I'm tellin' you...
Thing is, he didn't even really need the Chocolate Buttermilk sample to juice this track even more. it would have been enough on its own, but HOTT DAMN, he added it anyways and made one of my all time favorite hip hop jams. My mind is fucking blown, it takes A LOT to blow my mind......my mind is fucking blown
EhYo - that Pete Rock & CL Smooth sample had me open like a mutherfucker. Love the way Peter Phillips blends that track along with Kool & The Gang's Chocolate Buttermilk (Please do a show with that track) to blow your mind with "Straighten It Out".
Holy Shit my mind was fucken blown with that track. Thanks functuall!
Boadicea - Enya was used in P Diddy & Mario Winans' I don't want to know. I thought I'd mention it since it wasn't in the hugpage link, but I guess you know that since it's reeeeeaaaallly obvious.
DJ Funktuall! Dawg, Help me out...Who did DJ Quik get the beat from on the Hi-C joint "Skanless". It's drivin me crazy! Good lookin dude. Keep diggin baby!!
The version of Black Steel that I have has the Little Green Apples sample removed. It just starts with the prison warden saying "Get in that cell, n••••r!"
That " Get In that cell N**** " part comes from Stevie Wonder's "Living For The City". It's a vocal part in the middle of the song of the unedited version.
The Herb Alpert and Quincy Jones track, "last tango in paris" is the bomb right! Has anyone used it? Even straight off the record without any manipulation it would work. Let me know, cheers.
THANK YOU DUDE you opened my eyes to bob james ive actually sampled a few of his songs myself i wuda neva known about this guy bob james even tho daytona 500 is one of my fav tracks props dude
I remember watching that old stephen king horror flick "sleepwalkers" back in 1993, and flipping out when I heard that enya tune during the intro of that movie.

3:28! I went crazy when I heard it. WELCOME TO THE TERRORDOME! Public Enemy used James Brown a million times. DJ Terminator X and The Bomb Squad...Shiiiiiiiiiit Beats for days! The Enya song was also in a Steven King movie called Sleepwalkers. And the last sounds like it was used for Follow The Leader and the Beastie Boys.
since watching this show i hear hip hop in other genres more than i use to, its almost like i look for it now. I was watching rocky 2and the beat in the begining was the same thing used in big pun's "leather face", and obviousley "going the distance" is the victory, BIG
I love all your videos it helps me learn about some oldies I've never heard. I love Nautilus and his Westchester Lady (I wonder if any rapper sampled that). If you take suggestions you could show how Bone Thugs-N-Harmony sampled Chapter 8 - I Just Want To Be Your Girl for 1st of the Month.
