Ya know, the more and more I watched this film, the lower my overall score for it became. It went from an original 10/10 to an 8/10, which I guess isn't that bad. My biggest gripes with this film are that the character personalities were pretty much thrown in our faces at first (I seriously feel Disney tried too hard to make Tiana a role model. What happened to Disney getting messages across without making them blatantly obvious?) and the development during the second half felt semi-natural.
@slashermaster28 When I say the development felt semi-natural, I mean that Disney didn't give us a lot of interaction between the characters and even left out a few key details that they only told us about and never showed. For instance, in Lion King, we see moments where they stray away from the story to give us Simba and Mufasa bonding. They didn't need to put that in but it was still nice because it told us how strong their connection was. It allowed Mufasa's death to leave more of an impact.
@slashermaster28 Here, we get less of that and more plot development. Like, what was Tiana's second job? How did she and Facilier know each other? I still think this was a great return to hand-drawn Disney, but I just don't think it was perfect and that's just my opinion.
I can't say how excited I was for Princess and the Frog, and it exceeded my already sky-high expectations.
Though I have to say, I do love Enchanted (especially since Alan Menken wrote the songs and score), and a few of Disney's non-Pixar CG films were pretty good. I personally thought Dinosaur was quite nice, but I'm rather easy to please. And yes, Bolt was very good.
Tangled looks like a lot of fun (Alan Menken again), and I can't express how excited I am for The Snow Queen.
@MrSnowBlack666 Here's an interesting rumor I've heard in regards to this: Disney's planning to do a pattern, like, a CGI film one year, a hand-drawn one the next and so on. Although even if this was true, I wouldn't put it past Eisner to cancel this idea. (After all, Pooh's going up against Harry Potter 8. I seriously doubt it's gonna do as well as they expect it to)
In terms of the animated films between 2002-04, they were all good but just not masterpieces. I guess some of the stories were a little too far-fetched for most people.
And in terms of the CGI movies, I think the only one that was a complete piece of crap was The Wild.
Let's hope that this movie will guarantee a major Disney comback! :)
Keith David is also Lieutenant Childs in "The Thing", Mary's step-dad in "There's Something About Mary" and Lieutenant Dixon in the Oscar-winning "Crash".
Walt Disney Company making a decision to not make old-fashioned animated films? THAT'S A SIN! Thank goodness for John Lasseter! If it weren't for him, where would Disney be now? He's my hero.
@KikiMononoke Hell yeah that's a sin, because sloth (laziness) is one of the Seven Deadly Sins, as opposed to diligence, which is one of the Seven Holy Virtues! We must be really proud of ourselves to be attached to our vast knowledge of the sins and virtues!
megamanx1800- I remember you saying something about Hewy being incredibly harsh when it came to people expressing opposite opinions. Did it ever occur to you that you were implying shouting and stating your opinion as fact as if it was the only one that mattered? That's why he's threatened to block you a couple of times. It's because you kinda shove your opinions in people's faces, but I'm sure you don't mean to do it.
No. Take it easy man! Didn't mean to take it that harsh! I did watch Bolt and I didn't quite like it. But it is a good movie. So PLEASE don't block me! I love your videos!!!!!
@megamanx1800 I agree with that. It might not have been as good as the 2D-animated films, but it definitely was better than Dinosaur and Chicken Little.
"The Princess and the Frog" is the best handdrawn animated film by Disney at the decade. On 2:nd place comes "Lilo & Stitch" and on 3rd "The Emperors New Groove". I LOVE the songs, the characters and the animation!! :)
Observe, that the old, good Disney's from the 90's had very nice posters, they looks soo serious and beautiful!!
This movie was fantastic. not my favorite like Beauty and the Beast or Nightmare before Christmas(tied for 1st) but it does take 2nd but Dr. Facilier does take first in favorite villain and friends on the other side takes favorite song of all time. I really wished they had more of Dr. Facilier he was the best. i think he the way he died was the worst (meaning that would suck if it happened to me) out of all disney villains' deaths. i glad 2D is back and i hope it stays. Great review.
Dr. Facilier was an AWESOME VILLAIN! Now one of my top fave animated villains of all time! =D his song was epic, I loved all the songs of the film though very jazzy and catchy which was awesome =)
Good opening. Like the villian so far. The absloute reason I want to see this is a voodo witch doctor with a jazzy soul. Every time he appear, I swear, I begin to.....um.....be amazed shall we say....COME ON, THE GUY IS AMAZING!!!
has been going around like crazy! She's been going to the Disney theme parks (Walt Disney World last month) being accepted as a new royal princess. Now she's going to sing here in California at Disneyland's Christmas Parade.
The first 30 seconds of this made my day. That's exactly what I said when I saw the movie! There are some plot holes and flaws that I can point out, but despite that I think this movie is in my top 3 favorite DIsney animated movies.
I can just picture how that fight would play out--Mama Odie would give Sora a Holy spell (or an equivalent thereof), and you would have to whack Facilier's own shadows back at him a la Phantom ganon in Zelda
Hell I am twenty fricking years old and He was creeping ME out! This movie was great... I did hear one mom say and I quote "I wanted to smack that white girl silly " and I concur to that ..XD

Yes, it's back, it's better than ever, and I hope it stays for good. When I saw your Mr. Fox review I said to myself, "Just wait until you see this." I'm so happy you liked it too.
Okay, Disney should have known that the quality of animation has nothing to do with story. You could have a movie with great CG but a sucky plot... I know, classmates of mine made a small one.
