This is called a 'Look Len' technique. It's founded on personal skill, and not in any solid fundamentals (Yam Sam Kung). Though I don't doubt the effectiveness of the kick (Many top level Thai fighters use this commonly), I question the purpose of learning it, especially without clear demonstration of the roots of this kick: Sam Yam Kung.
It's like learning Michael Jordans Fadeaway without having a PROFICIENT single jumper.
A switch kick commonly refers to a kick done with the lead leg. It is then implied that one needs to switch their feet putting their lead foot in back to get the power generation. With that said, the "hop into it" kick can be done with both the lead and the rear. When you hop into the kick it allows you to cover a longer distance than staying stationary or even stepping into the kick. Thus, implemented it is much different than a quick switch kick.
