Someone here mentioned googling his kids' interviews...yeah, I know where you're going with that. His son Gary's memories of life with Bing ("Going My Own Way") are devastating. I don't know what demons drove Crosby, that made him such a cruel father (to his older children particularly), and I have enormous sympathy for those who loved him and suffered for it. But I love his talent, and this song especially, nonetheless. I guess I'll have to live with that contradiction.

His voice, to me, is Christmas. I have gone over to my grandparent's house every Christmas Eve since my birth and they always have him playing on their record player while we open gifts. It just wouldn't be the same without Mr. Crosby.

I agree.  My parents played this on their 1940s entertainment center turntable (78 rpm) while we "had" our Christmas tree. They are gone now, but my family has done the same thing every Christmas. My oldest has listened to this for 29 years now, and says she wants it when "it is her turn"......

Just be careful if your looking to buy it on a Christmas compilation CD. I found out the hard way that he recorded this twice, IIRC, the first rendition is not as good. This one here is the best ! I know 'cause I can tell by my reaction. Not ashamed to admit that this version grabs my soul and shakes it 'til tears stream down my face ! In fact, I just had to stop it half way through.'cause at times it can be unbearable for me.I'm an old man now - reminds me of years gone, never to return. Sniff.

I think every generation has it's icons and interpreters. Bing was and is certainly a major influence on most anybody attempting Christmas music. Let's just say Josh CAN indeed sing and has, no doubt, heard Bing's renditions and been positively influenced.
