  • fantastic ,right up there with conway twitty 5/5

  • that chick in the begining was diggin it, was digin him, i think she sincerely wanted him to bone her, for the right reasons, this songs awesome

  • My Robert Gordon favorite is "Sweet love on my mind".

  • Good cover, but nothing fabulous. For myself, Robert Gordon's signature tune is Sea of Heatbreak, which reigns supreme.

  • Have had the album since it first came out. Gave it to my 21 year old son. he loves it too!

  • My favourite of all times...

  • what a fabulous voice

  • i remember the robert gordon album. i went out and got it on day one. i couldnt believe how good he was

  • His live version on the King Biscuit Flour Hour was awesome, and much more rocked up, with great guitar work by Spedding. Unfortunately, there was PA interference from local police radios and feedback, so they included another live version on the final KB CD. He was very raw in his live shows, and a favorite of some punk rockers. This is a singer's song . . . keeps going up and up and up, which is why you don't hear many covers. Glenn Campbell did a good job.

  • There is a God.

  • Any guy who had Link Wray in his band for 3 years is not a poser or devoid of talent. Twitty's is great but I give my vote to this one.

  • Great!

  • Just listened to all of the versions on Youtube. This is best, and I don't even recall robert Gordon...

  • @Nachcotta I first this version in 78'. it blew Twitty's away!!!!!!!!!

  • I heard a version of this song done in the ealy 80's. Anyone know who did it around then?

  • This cover should have charted.

  • what a great voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy does an OK version of this song but I lived those times driving around

in my car with many different girls. Even Elvis didn't attempt to do a cover of it

like he did on Ral Donner's "Girl of my best friend", or Terry Stafford's "suspicion"

He Knew that was Conway's song, not to be done better or duplicated. I have never heard of this Guy until now. Sorry for you or him.

  • @albeelat You have a valid point but IMO he does this song great. However, I also never heard of RG until clicking here to listen to his 1979 version of this great song. I'm not sure about his other music though, I just like this song. I also like Conway's version as it is the original. Conway sings everything great, no argument there, Peace.

  • I had his "Fresh Fish Special" album, which had Bruce Springsteen's "Fire" on it. I also saw him open for Southside Johnny.

Robert may have been born out of time but he was never born out of talent. Every Classic he touches he makes better.

  • he shouldn't have left the Tuff Darts

  • @sergejisd

Tuff darts don't exist withour RG

  • @stiglathpileser holy words

  • He is good, you should give Ronnie McDowell's version a listen if you like this.

  • Ah, yes, met him backstage at the Stone Pony, with Bruce as a surprise guest that night...Robert should have achieved much more acclaim...oh but at least some of us know the truth..."Fire" huh...

  • <3

  • Definitive.

  • Robert Gordon rules, he's one of the best singers that never made it really big.I used to go watch him around the NY area in the 80's and he always rocked the house!

  • Robert is great at this song, BUT...hearing Chris Spedding do the fills on guitar is a zillion times better than the generic trumpet on this video. Get the Robert Gordon with Chris Spedding "Live in Philadelphia" 1979 album for the best rendition of this song ever performed!

  • AWSOME!!! * * * * *

  • It is GOOD!

  • This Dude has a awesome voice and does a Great-- and I mean great cover, But he is in now way CONWAY TWITTY. DONT EVEN TRY IT Pecker wood

  • @maulervaughan What do you think of the live Glen Campbell version? I seems like he's lipsyncinag at around the 2,10 point, or else there's a visual glitch, which I kind of doubt. There was a big argument in the comments section there over whether or not Elvis had the range to do it. Haha. He had range enough for Burnin' Love, and In The Ghetto.

  • Thank you for this nice rendition of Conway Twitty's (and a few others) hit. I had never had heard this one. Gordon has a powerful voice matching the song message and the band and chorus backing him up make for a top quality production. Thank you for uploading this video for the benefit of the community and to make him know to us all,

    L

  • love this version, and it is a lot better than the original.and this comes from a person who really likes conway twitty

  • @doowopper64

You should hear "Fresh Fish Special" (Robert Gordon and Link Wray).

I'm a Conway Twitty fan, too. Gordon and Twitty are BOTH great. :-)

  • oui tout a fait d'accord avec toi,c'est vraiment le seul

  • billy fury is also good in my opinion

  • Robert Gordon kicks butt. Conway Twitty is still in my ears growing up, but this rocks!

    Larry

  • Is this the Robert Gordon from Fresh Fish Special with Link Wray? That was/is five-star rockabilly!

  • Excellent cover no doubt, but Conway is untouchable...Legends usually are.

Elvis was once asked why he never covered it. His reply ..no one could ever sing it like Conyway…No more needs to be said….

  • I saw Robert Gordon on tour right around this time (early 1979). The gig was in a cafeteria on the campus of UMass-Amherst on a weekend afternoon and was lightly attended. He did this number along with many others and it was great.

  • this is fucking great shit Gordon rocks

  • Hey critique my version of this song on my youtube channel.

    Thanks

    Larry Kinsey [ ljkinsey's channel ]

  • I like it a lot but Conway & Jack Nance wrote it and Conway owned it.

    'Nuff said

  • yay, real music!!

    you made my day man!!

  • He's the only person that can sing it better than Conway Twitty.

  • @azxmophf fuck you.

  • @azxmophf You've never heard it sung by Screamin' Jay Hawkins then?

  • @azxmophf Better? Lol. He's the best cover. No one sings it better than Conway except for Conway, who only has hundreds of covers of it, but Robert sure does tear up Rockabilly Boogie.

  • @azxmophf - Conway hits the mark though. I love how Robert Gordon does the ending. It is a demanding song. I have to hear this one again.

  • @azxmophf I have to agree

  • @azxmophf That's your opinion, but personally I think this is horrible, not a patch on Conway Twitty.

  • been trying for ages to get this version on karaoke its brilliant the trumpet solo makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up

  • conway yeah but gorden exseeleent...........t/y

  • Heres 85000 votes

  • Great job.

  • robert's our rockabilly hero!

  • Great job Robert.!!!!

  • who is this guy,,,, Great Job

  • the best

  • That son's just a piece of cake for Robert Gordon.

  • Great but there is only one Conway Twitty, Only my opinion

  • Great voice ! So easily sung. Gordon can say he's a singer.

  • What a song.

  • I was so naive in 1979. I really (seriously) thought I had come across a single that had been sitting in the record store since the fifties. Mind you, the store was only a couple of years old at the time LOL. But I still love that old 45.

  • Never heard him sing until a couple of months ago. since, I've listened to versions by Conway (love it) Glen Cambell (very good) Ronni Rae Rivers (nice) the Hollies (dreadful)..and I like this one best.

  • greatest love song to me

  • My all time favorit,,, still, love you robert,....

  • Robert is the greatest! His records are all great and are mostly to blame for my love of rock-a-billy to this day!

  • I like it, I like it alot.

  • who the *&^% is this guy?..and why haven't I ever heard of him? This is a great song, thanks for posting!

  • Robert still has an amazing voice and really captures emotion

  • Love that trumpet solo.

  • I thought this would suck big time but he does a fine job!!!!

  • Anybody know what ever happened to him..saw him a few years ago at Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender, but have'nt seen hyde nor in awhile...

  • He's playing a show tonight in Toronto, Canada at the Cadillac Lounge.

  • He's gigging with Mike Peters from The Alarm and the one and only Slim Jim Phantom - the Rockin' Rythmn behind Messrs Setzer and Drucker in Stray Cats.

    And they're pretty good too.

Still rockin after 30 years... The young cats are now veterans.

    God I feel old

    Mikey xx

  • Great singing by Robert... love that little trumpet solo, too !

  • any one know if RG can still it those high notes? This is famazing. Sweet surrender is also one of my favorites from him.

  • Dear talented Robert Gordon, never got the credit he deserved. He really was THEE rockabilly revivalist..Even before the Cats..who I love... Just wish RG could be livin high on the hog... He sure had (has) the talent.

  • Wow. Sexy. And for that I will forgive him giving rise to the Brian Setzer's Christmas record abomination.

  • i don't know that i've ever said a cover is better than an original which i"ve loved for decades but this is that time. Beautifully arranged and delivered.

  • I think Conway would agree

  • true dat bro --- WORD--- and another good cover is the fitty cent version---

  • Brilliant X

  • Love that song, loves Robert's version!

  • Excellent remake of a classic song.

  • this happened to me, she would just constantly cheat on me and i stayed in that nightmare for 6 years and now finnaly i kick the bitch out..im so proud of my self ..i cant believe i did it ... i thought i was never gonna have the courage to tell the whore to get the fuck out..i think god helped me out because before i didnt believe in god as much as i do now(sorry for saying bad words )

  • i went to see him when fresh fish special came out. small club in north jersey. my friend had an old link wray album that he autographed when we saw him standing at the bar.he invited us back to the dressing room, introduced us to robert.we hung out with them for a while, drinking beer talking music.two of the nicest guys i've ever met in the biz.ran into robert about a year later at the ritz in nyc and it was like meeting up with an old friend.great guy.

  • your lucky .this is the only real kind of music

  • Robert Gordon, Chris Spedding, and Glen Matlock will be in the DC area in August! Who's going?

  • Don't forget Slim Jim Phantom of the Stray Cats going to Toronto and Hamilton gigs here in Canada in just over 2 weeks should be great! Enjoy! Derek.

  • I've seen him a couple of times in the past few years, and although he's put on a couple of lbs. (who hasn't?) he still has the great pipes and really seems to enjoy himself on stage. Way, way underrated!

  • he sings like elvis

  • i think much better

  • The best voice in Rock 'n Roll.... Thanks for posting this!

  • got a chance to drink whiskey with him in san fran one day. he is a fucking great guy!!

  • I always thought he had a lot of guts to take on the 50s persona during the 1980s, I guess he proved that good music is timeless.

I saw him in Boston at a dive called The Channel. He was great.

  • i know huh, im kind of like him,in a smaller more quiet way

  • kind of like him? do you wear vintage clothing? do you sing? do you look like him?

  • no,no and no... i mean the way that he doesnt conform

  • This guy is the best !!!

  • flawless!! played his album on my college station back in 79. Lots of great tunes

  • good song .the girlfriend is a whore

  • great version. See Dandelvis version on youtube

  • Robert Gordon & Chris Spedding are touring in Europe in July 2009.

    Norway, Finland, Sweden & Holland.

    Keep on rockin!

  • This is the best cover of this song. Glen Campbell dosen't have the vocal range

  • you are right you know!

  • ~Conway Twitty wrote this? Jeez, I'm showing my age, remembering him, (:cool D

  • Love this song!

  • Straordinario Robert Gordon, con bellissima canzone. Extraordinary version of wonderfull song!

    Special thank to Longtall!

  • Robert Gordon was a real asshle in concert! Showed up real late, and only played for 45 minutes, all the while looking at his watch! But, man, was he good.

  • Love the song and Robert Gordon. But.... I think that Conway Twitty could draw out the notes better than Robert Gordon on this one. Thanks anyway - hadn't heard this version before,

  • Wow..........................!

  • OUTSTANDING

  • Easily one of the best rock covers of all time. Robert has the heart, talent and passion to pull it off. I first saw Robert w/Chris Spedding at the Cleveland Agora in the late 70's. I still consider it one of the top 10 greatest rock concerts I've been lucky enought to attend. This includes the Beatles,Hendrix,The Who,Springsteen and Roy Orbison... Gordon should be inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame without hesitation or question.......The Minister of Rock and Roll-Luther Heggs

  • Saw him lat night in Ferndale, MI. During his 2nd encore, he came out teased the crowd with the beginning of this great song, then ripped into something else. Although he was great as usual, I don't think he's got the pipes to carry this song off anymore.

  • Saw him live in Toronto right after this album came out -- You just can't beat the way he sounded then

  • R.G. has the voice! Also, he was soooooo fine back in those days....

  • Yes, sirree Bob E. Lee! Conway Twitty made this song a monster hit back in the `50's but I'm inclined to agree with the boys RG stole his thunder! And I'm here to tell ya, that's going some!

  • Mark this and come what will of it ~ Dixie Peach pompadour's will be all the rage one day again! RG wearing his jet pomp is just way too cool of a look for the teens of the coming decade to give the go by. And add black leather jackets to the list too!

  • much better like the twitty version

  • rober gordon in prime time

  • Una delle più belle canzoni del mondo e questa la più grande interpretazione! Grazie Robert Gordon, e grazie Longtall!

  • Thank's very much for posting,Longtail!!!!
