Ever since I told my whole class I'm trying to become a transfer student to Japan, I've been categorized as a "chink" and a "Asian", when I'm obviously caucasian. And whenever I'm around or studying some Japanese hiragana at school, they start to talk gibberish Chinese with me.

Sigh.

I haven't ever been "made fun of" but I have had people make negative comments, or pull faces. Perfect example is when I went to my college's "Student Services" to ask about after hours classes, the woman said "what for?" and I replied "Japanese" and she laughed! not like full on laughing aloud, but she sort of giggled and tried to hide it, then she continued by going on about the many other languages that are available other than Japanese. -_- I felt kind of insulted.

I know! my (half) sister IS in fact half japanese and people make fun of her. but this one chick who's German who claims full japanese gets believed. And she doesnt know any japanese yet people believes her but when Buri (my sis) speaks it. people doesnt believe her and makes fun of her. >:3 so what i did was brought some of my family there to prove her bluff. and now she is "secretly" taking JP lessons.

yeah i hate how wanting to learn a language and it's culture automatically makes you a wannabe. it's like you can't learn about another culture. if you're black you have to stay within the stereo types of black people if you're white you have to stay within the stereotypes of a white person if you're asian you have to stay within asian stereotypes. it's annoying.
