  • Live mocha is good ??

  • Work with Mac ?

  • Didn't work si

  • Hm, the Twitter suggestion is actually quite interesting to me. I might add this to my study habits.

  • Good online video media! Intend to make around 570 Bucks day a day? Around 2600 fulfilled individual users will be employing this method at the moment! Head to roulettecash !! or)

  • I love your vid and info on your video page. Check out my videos they be what your looking for. Thanks hope to talk to you soon.

  • GenkiJapan is good :3

  • I'm curious if this is still the best top ten. I saw that iknow.co.jp is beginning to charge for services.

  • Really cool!!

  • Thanks, it great,

  • Hey guys, if Livestation isn't working for you (like it does not for me) look up KeyholeTV. With KeyholeTV, you can watch NHK, Asahi TV, TV Tokyo. The quality is pretty poor at this point, but streaming is a breeze; even when my net is so bogged down with netflix and my other computer, I am still able to stream Japanese TV.

  • THANK YOU

  • Livestation shucks for me =,(. I cannot seem to access anything from the website, and the app shows no video. I may now proceed on cursing my pitiful Internet connection and horrible system specs just before realizing there were 9 more items to try out on the list.

  • Best place to find latin women **busizz4me.info**

  • Thank you very much. This is really helpful. Appreciate your kind effort. I would brush up my Japanese seriously under your guidance. Will download your web to see. Honto ni suki desu!!!

  • thanks. this is a real help :)

  • "my number nine pick... commercials..." I actually laughed out loud.

  • I'm sad because I can't seem to get livestation to show me any Japanese channels... v.v It always says it's not offered.

  • @MagegirlNino dont worry livestaion wont work for me either :( i signed up and eveythng...huh! idk

  • Good list! :D But you didn't mention Lingofriends! I love that site!!

  • Last chance for you # lushfmlk.info #

  • tyvm for the info, im going to be starting japanese my next year in school, i shall definatly use these tools :D tyvm

  • Hi brother needs to chat a, Asian women busizz4me.info

  • where'd you get those glasses?

  • let me just not, the key to everything is, go to school..... and its totally free

  • this is so random

  • this is great but what would you recomend for some one to use if they would like to learn japanese but cant go to lessons and get a tutor because a love to speak an read japanes so one day i can go their:)

  • @Fredpimpstone These can be used for that, I suppose...? Um... I can't really find a tutor or anything, but I still manage. I also don't have money, so I can't get a laptop or an MP3 player or anything to help me with japanese. D: So I have to rely on the computer completely, but... I can't always be on here. My mom and my sister have online collage, and my niece is on playing games a lot, so I don't always get the time I need. STILL, I manage by going to site after site after site. =/

  • @PikaJutsu sounds like me a dont get to use the computer all the time, but thanks for the help so you use them all but witch is your fav?

  • @Fredpimpstone Well when it comes to my fav sites, I'd have to think about it. =P Though, I know that the top 3 people I really like when it comes to japanese, are Koichi (of course), Richard from GenkiJapan(dot)net, and Khatzumoto from alljapaneseallthetime(dot)com. :3 If I could have these 3 people teach me japanese, I would be one happy camper. You probably already know about Koichi, lol, this is HIS video, but if you don't know much about the other two, I'd be happy to tell you about 'em. :3

  • LAMO

  • Rikaichan has a Chrome version/port called Rikaikun. :).

  • The best way to learn Japanese, multiple tutorials and lessons, watch this video - youtube.com/watch?v=wfseANZtMNg

  • You are totally AWSOME! A quick question though, does the LiveStation apply for VISTA users as well? I have a crappy laptop, I know. T_T

  • @Omg1Sub I don't think Asians are stupid.

  • not as much as you ^^

  • Wow, thanks so much for this! I've been looking all over for sites like these so I can study at work too (^_^) (shh..don't tell)

  • Thank you very much for your advice. I had reached a decent level but after leaving Japan... Your advice has helped me organize my re-learning, and preparation to JLPT(N4 to start with). I just found an interesting podcast (Worldshift), very interesting and they speak so clearly that I can stop any time to check a word without having to listen 10 times to figure out what they said, and the description (+gtrans) helps too. Thanks again. smart.fm also great, will check lang-8.

  • u are japanes and ur english is exellent :O

  • @romarioanisa

he is 1/4 japanese but he was born in oregon. So his english should be good since its his native language ;)

  • @theorigin12 lol

  • I love Japan because of they culture.

  • 有難うございます!

  • cおおl!!

  • どうも。

  • Thank you sooooo much! Wtih this I don't have to worry about trying to teach my friends Japanese because frankly I'm a terrible teacher(and I mean that ><;). You're such a nice person thank you for these tips and resources for learning Japanese I don't feel so overwhelmed anymore! ^-^

  • Ha, I already have Rikaichan :D

  • thank you for the recourses. it should hopefully help me actually learn something. thank you so much!

  • I think japanese.about. com is very good. Their articles about adjectives and verbs have helped me alot.

  • おもしろかった!教えてくれてはありがとうございます。

  • Excellent. Thanks very much.

  • you rock!!!!

  • omedetou+congratulations= Omets!

  • Super stuff. I am so impressed with your help. I like the fact that you are encouraging people to WORK at it rather than take a magic potion. Good Going.

  • For those who uses Google Chrome, Rikaichan was recently ported to Chrome. It's called Rikaikun.

  • the ironicall thing about this is, I am using this video to practice my english listening skills XDDDDDDDD

That´s great info, thanks a lot (since I am into japanese too lol)

  • どもありがとございます。

  • I applaud you....awkwardly....awesome

  • I never knew that about itunes! XD Thank you so much, this video was very helpful!

  • I just found "KeyHoleTV", a free program, which let's watch/listen to Japanese TV/radio (but in LQ):

"KeyHoleTV is part of a project by Japans Ministry of Internal Affairs testing out P2P (peer to peer) technology."

I hear "TVU networks" (also free) is good, too.

I would like to hear from people who tested several programs which one is best.

  • Thanks!!! Excellent suggestions.

  • Arigato gozaimasu ^O^

  • Thanks man ;] The only I've knew was Rikaichan ;]

  • i also recommend, the kingsoft online dictionary (site in japanese)

its software that allows you to hover your cursor onto ANY word on your OS (meaning not just your web browser, PDF, word files, almost anything) and translate it for you from japanese to english or vice versa!

  • I installed Livestation, shortly after I first watched this video.

I added a bunch of Japanese channels, and I was very pleased.

    ...

It's been quite a while (a year?), since the Japanese channels were working.

    I want Japanese TV...

Does anyone know any ways of seeing Japanese TV?

  • Arigatu

  • thanks .

  • great list!

i recommend ANKI. a flash-card like program for studying japanese

  • ANKI is very good especially when used in conjunction with Heisig's Remembering the Kanji. Livestation however is overrated, the streams are not live, nor are they streams, they are merely uploaded clips which run in cycles. If QVC Japan doesnt drive you round the bend when you watch it I guarantee it will 20 minutes later when you're watching the same item being sold again.....

  • lol @ basch. QVC does get alittle batty.

  • This is really awesome! Thank you so much for providing such great tips!! You are awesome!

  • thank you SO much for making this.

    I wouldn't have found 8 out of 10 sites/softwares you mentionned.

    god bless you! :D

  • thanks for the suggestions :D

  • Thank you !! it helps a lot =D

  • itunes is a great help, thanks for suggesting it:) there's actually a podcast from kyoto japanese language school, everything the teacher says is written in japanese (using either kanji, hiragana or katakana) in japanese using romanic letters and in english, plus the word spoken atm is highlighted

  • thank you i hope this help me

  • i love firefox

  • thanks will help me ^^

  • Yet another thanks, from Poland this time!

  • The first 3 are the best

  • Thank you, very much. These resources were much appreciated.

  • I find myself nodding to your suggestions.... you're the bomb diggity tofugu!

  • Thanks for posting the useful list. By the way does anyone know if the Japan channels are meant to work if you're living in England? Or is is just me? French channels work. Is it because I'm too far away?

  • Dude

    your awesome

    like seriously

    #9

    OMG

I can watch my fucking asain drama's now

helps that the one I'm learning now is in chinese but japanese was dirived from chinese...right?

  • Ok never mind I can get Tv Tokyo to work... I think it's just some channels that don't work.

  • Not quite. The Japanese use kanji(Chinese characters) to honor the Chinese. That is as I understand it. I forget the whole story, but you can google that easily though.

  • Thankyou so much.

  • Is there any way I can hear podcasts without downloading iTunes or individually browsing sites?

  • Thanks for making this great video. Very useful learning tools! And thanks for keeping it interesting with your kooky personality, you did make me chuckle occasionally :)

  • god,i love you!! you crack me up im trying to find vids on how to speak jap but somehow i keep ending up watching your vids appluad akwardly LMAO

  • this rikaichan is not workin....... what can i doooo????

  • If you've installed the dictionary, then right click and click on "Rikaichan". It should work then, just hover your cursor over any characters.

  • can u put ur e-mail????

  • Thanks that was a HUGE help. I've been trying to teach my self japanese for a long time but i can't find a language learning school in my area. I hope these will help

  • dud tyhankx a million that is defenetly going to help me learn japanese

  • thx for your sharing from 1 to 10

  • hajimemashitte,watashiwa suridance desu.dozo yorushiko onegai itashimasu.domo arigito for the info.jya ne

  • Great resource thanks for posting !

  • Great job - thanks koichi!

  • I went to Yamasa!!!!

iPhone/iTouch also has a free Jap App (tee hee)... it's called Kotoba... GET IT!!!!

  • Because Rikaichan doesn't work in Safari for me, I'm using Hiragana Megane and POPjisyo. They work very well, but Richaichan is still the best one.

  • i'll teach hindi to anyone who teaches me japanese

  • Livestation reminds me of Keyhole witch is the same thing

  • Thanks for sharing this it has been very informative and I appreciate it.

  • You're like an MTV VJ. Haha. So cool.

Unless you find that insulting. T.T

  • lol MTV VJ's? I haven't heard of them for a while, since the only MTV's I know that have em are MTV Asia and MTV Philippines :)

  • Haha. Those VJ's are exactly the ones I had in mind.

  • You don't happen to know of any add-on/things like RikaiChan that DON'T require firefox, do you? I love RikaiChan, but now have Safari because, well, firefox annoys me. I just can't find anything like RikaiChan! Gah!

  • i love your videos so much!! thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    By the way, TWITTER SUUUUCKS!

But Lang-8 and that Livestation program are the STUFF! Thank you very much! I hope one day I write comments in kanji only, haha! :D

  • doumo doumo doumo!!

    i love you!!!!

(p.s. you are very well spoken.)

  • domo arigatou gozaimasu this will really help me

  • Awsome video, i have been struggling with learning japanese for years because all i have are a few books and tapes. The ressources you talk about in both videos are fantastic. This will definitively help me. Arigatou gozaimasu!!!!!

  • おおくっリック恩来肉!

  • arigato gozaimasu koichi-san!

  • thank you so much, you're such a considerate person..

  • ありがとございます!私は日本語のがくせいです。これは多くの助け!

  • PLS do such a thing with Books! It will be useful, nice video good work.

  • And for software! The only way I could learn Hiragana and Katakana was through Power Japanese, even though it was basically crap for everything else.

  • Thanks for the videos and the awesome list! I've been watching and enjoying your interesting and funny videos for a while now. I am currently studying japanese at University level, and I find your vids quite useful.

I've shared the links to this list, your channels and blogs on my japanese class's internet forum, as I think my classmates will appreciate your work. Thanks again, keep up the good work =)

  • I would like to ask you something in connection with Japanese writing: how can I install Japanese on my PC so that I can type it in? Because everytime I want to write something in Japanese, I just keep copying-pasting the hiraganas, katakanas and kanjis from different homepages and put them together, but that's not quite comfortable..

  • Google it. Google is your friend.

  • Go to the control panel in XP and select regional and language options ,add japanese and the IME in the language tab

  • I have this same problem. I use Vista and I can not install the IME. . not even from the Microsoft site. Anyone else have any ideas?

  • go to the help and support that comes with vista - it actually works. n just type in language, the first three options should set u up for life.

    hope this helps

  • oh n it'll help if u can find the language bar and set it to 'display on the toolbar' cos then u can just click on it to change the input. obv b4 u do all this, uve got to set everything first.

  • I have Vista also but I added it. Follow lialus's directions to regional and language options. Then, go to keyboard and languages and click on change keyboard. Click add, scroll to Japanese, click keyboard, check Microsoft IME and then add. Then, I would think it would work. That's how I set it up from their instructions but I don't know how to use it XD

  • Koichi-san (Or should I say "Koichi-sensei"?)

Arigato gozaimasu. I now have all of the sites from both videos bookmarked!

  • I LOVE Japanese commercials. When I was there this summer I sat around watching TV sometimes, and I would flip the channel when a show would come on to find more commercials! Thanks for this list! Very helpful!

  • 遣りますよ!!!!

  • Thanks a BUNCH!!! Very useful stuff that I didn't know about :)

  • Hey, tofugu! This time VERY GOOD JOB! thanks for the information!

  • Feels like tacos and burritos at the end.

Yea, I had nothing better to contribute than that.

  • Rikaichan looks great. I'll install it right now.

...and Japanese TV! Man I have got to get livestation!

  • Wow! This is excellent; thanks for sharing!

  • I posted on tofugu, but got to say again, great stuff. Thank you Thank you Thank you Koichi!

  • nice red back ground

  • Thank you, sir.

  • dude awesome you rock!!!! iv been watching you since koichi ben and this by far made #1 youtube channel for me thanks ^_^

  • Nice, thanks for that!

I'm going to try out Lang-8 right now

  • Thanks for these, I basically never try to learn Kanji. This might change my mind. Should've known my channel with the outdated grammer wasn't in your top favs ;p

  • lol "Crazy 2 channers"

    Futuba channel= Twin leaf Channel.

  • You can't leave out Anki! Or any other spaced repetition software for that matter.

Other than that, nice list, thanks!

I'll try to compose my Top 100 resources now ;)

  • That's why I have iKnow in there. Anki's good, but I think iKnow is better

  • Twitter seems good but how the heck do you type in kanji?

  • Do you have Japanese font typing installed on your computer? If not, search it on google or something to find how.

  • どもありがとう

  • You can try the IME input system included with your Windows XP or Vista. You type what you want in romaji, and at the same time it will convert the text to hiragana. Once you are done with a sentence or phrase, press the space bar and it will automatically convert to the most appropriate kanji according to the context.

  • 1st Comment!!! YEAH!!!!!

  • You're an idiot!!! YEAH!!!!

  • lol
