i showed this to my christian mom, trying, once again, to convince her that im atheist, not lost or 'just need saving', i hoped that this would show her that this is the path i chose, and that we both have our own beliefs and mine is just different from hers, not 'wrong'. after watching this video, my mom simply asked "what?" and i explained "mom, im atheist, not christian, i CHOSE this, its not wrong, and i am NOT lost" she simply replied with "you're stupid"

We grow up thinking that beliefs are something to be proud of, but they’re really nothing but opinions one refuses to reconsider. Beliefs are easy. The stronger your beliefs are, the less open you are to growth and wisdom, because 'strength of belief' is only the intensity with which you resist questioning yourself. You know atheism is a bit of a misnomer. By definition, somebody with freedom of thought cannot outright reject a notion that cannot be proven wrong or right otherwise they would be in the same (logical) boat as theists. I understand what kind social/ psychological/ mimetic entity gods and superstition is. Religions all say different things about different topics. Any one of them could be right. But it is totally pregudiced that people only apply athiesm to christianity. one thing i wanted to bring up, why do christians say atheists believe life is worthless. If anything, i thinks its more valuable because i know i only have one, and im not going to waste it so that i feel that im going to have a better one after i die. Its you christians who believe that the point of life is to praise god so he will let you into heaven.
I found this poem very moving. It really puts into perspective what it is we feel as Atheists. That this life is what you get. It is yours alone to make of it what you will, good or bad. No God looms over us, weighing and measuring the circumstances of our lives. It's just us, fingers crossed and hoping for the best. And I am hopeful for all of us who walk through life with our eyes open.
Atheists are just as ridiculous as theists in my opinion. Their problem is the same: They claim with certainty that they know the truth. Let’s be honest and logic here, no one knows the true reality. The thing that pisses me off is the title. I'm not an athiest, I don't believe in God or disbelieve. Belief is not finite (as some would have you believe). When you self impose a title of belief (or lack of) you automatically become seperatist. Why put such a wieghty tag on yourself? If you're anti-organized religion, fine! That's a political stand point & serves a purpose. Atheism just makes you closed minded like all of the dogma of the religions you treat with contempt.

You could end up in the torture chamber of another God beleived in less than Yaweh for not beleiving in him. There are thousands of gods that humanity has conjoured. Any one of them could be true, or none at all. I find them all ridiculous and as such choose not to place a bet on which God is real.

While it is true that I can't know to 100% certainty that my office chair won't break on me when I sit down, I find the odds in such favor of it not breaking that I simply don't care thinking about it. The odds are "calculated" with the help of years of chair experience. I trust my ability to differ a risky vs a safe chair.

You know atheism is a bit of a misnomer. By definition, somebody with freedom of thought cannot outright reject a notion that cannot be proven wrong or right otherwise they would be in the same (logical) boat as theists. I understand what kind social/ psychological/ mimetic entity gods and superstition is. From that understanding, I would bet my last dollar against the existence of gods if we could push an easy button and find out. An accurate term for me would be agnostic, not atheist.

Religions all say different things about different topics. Any one of them could be right. But it is totally pregudiced that people only apply athiesm to christianity. NATURAL SELECTION DOESN'T PRODUCE ANYTHING. It can only "select" from variations produced having survival value. It only operates once there is life and reproduction, not before, so it couldn't have been involved in life's origins. If a variation occurs that helps a species survive, then that species is going to survive (be "selected'). That's all that natural selection is! It's a passive process in nature. DEBATE IS NOT OVER. In Darwin's time not enough science was known to refute macro-evolution. There was no understanding of genetics. Darwin thought the cell was just a simple glob. ALL REAL EVOLUTION ( i.e. varieties of dogs, cats, etc.) is the expression, over time, of already existing genes. Evolution is possible only if there’s information (genes) directing it. Only variations of already existing genes are possible, which means only limited evolution and adaptations are possible. NOT ALL EVOLUTIONISTS even agree on the fossils used to support and reconstruct human evolution. The bones are incomplete. There's no certainty of the bones belonging to the same creature. They can reconstruct whatever they want from these bones, and they have. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from an ape-like creature anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from a four-legged dog-like creature. APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from ape-like creature anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from four-legged dog-like creatures. I found this poem very moving. It really puts into perspective what it is we feel as Atheists. That this life is what you get. It is yours alone to make of it what you will, good or bad. No God looms over us, weighing and measuring the circumstances of our lives. It's just us, fingers crossed and hoping for the best. And I am hopeful for all of us who walk through life with our eyes open.

Atheists are just as ridiculous as theists in my opinion. Their problem is the same: They claim with certainty that they know the truth. Let’s be honest and logic here, no one knows the true reality. There’s no way to prove that there is a supreme being or beings, I do believe it is unlikely, but there’s no way to prove the contrary. Therefore, the most reasonable thing to do is to stop these useless speculations and focus on making the world we live in a better place !

We don't say a god doesn't exist the same way we say a magical unicorn doesn't exist, we simply find the hipotesis lacks proof and therefore we dismiss it. You can't prove a negative(You can't proof there is no maical invisible Espagheti monster in the sky if I stress the point he is magical) but the burden of proof is with the believer not the disbeliever.

The thing that pisses me off is the title. I'm not an athiest, I don't believe in God or disbelieve. Belief is not finite (as some would have you believe). When you self impose a title of belief (or lack of) you automatically become seperatist. Why put such a wieghty tag on yourself? If you're anti-organized religion, fine! That's a political stand point & serves a purpose. Atheism just makes you closed minded like all of the dogma of the religions you treat with contempt.

We can't know if we're just brains in a vat and we can never test that. Reality is what is demonstrable and testable.

While it is true that I can't know to 100% certainty that my office chair won't break on me when I sit down, I find the odds in such favor of it not breaking that I simply don't care thinking about it. The odds are "calculated" with the help of years of chair experience. I trust my ability to differ a risky vs a safe chair.
Also, I believe there's a reason why Rumpelstiltskin isn't proving he exist plainly.
