  • Kassemady is from Kela, where one of Mali's most famous Diabate family live; they are attached to the keita nobles from Kangaba. The song Kassemady is singing here is entitled: Bani, dedicated to Sanungwe Guimba Keita, a reknown and fierce ruler from Kangaba at the beginning of the 20th century (if I'm right). Kassemady and Toumani are definitely not from the same Diabate branch, but bearing the same family name, they are able to say: an be kelen, meaning 'we are one'.

Thank you so much I like the comment I'm going to copy it to the descrpción. Very welcome any valuable help.

  • I would like to know what is the story he is singing about please

  • Very enjoyable performance. Just wondering who the man is on the second kora.

  • @leftysergeant

Second kora is,Mamadou Sidiki Diabate dit "Madou FITINI"

  • @ngoniba Guess I should have figured that out. The man on the talking drum would probably not get high billing. So, are all three Diabates related? Seems to be a very talented family.

  • @leftysergeant Diabate, just like Kouyate and most Mande sir-names, is more of a clan name than a family name. But Toumani and Sidiki are cousins, but I'm not sure about Kassy.
