I would have thought that with portal axles that a neat Central Tire Inflation System would be easy to instal, and therefore let the tires down much quicker from the cabin. Look into, this video woulda been better with more traction.
i think a toyota with a slight lift and a straight axxle fuel injected does WAY WAY BETTER than this or any unimog. they're just too squary and roll over easy, on the other hand those straight axle toyotas can be modified to become real mudders, rock crawlers, you name it. besides they're so frigggin reliable, i've been 4 wheeling mine for years, it's not modified or anything, it's just got a 3 inch lift, ,, it just never seems to ever break down.
Toyota's are cool but the axles don't compare to the Unimogs. The birfields are known to have bad seals and explode. Can't count how many times I've seen it. There fine for 35" and under and moderate off-roading. You'll never see them in the Four Wheeler tough truck competition. They wouldn't make through the first log in the frame twister. Like I said there good but not great, unimog blow them out of the water.
@MrNicks24 yes you're right, i've seen those toyota birfields break when abused, they usually break if you don't lube them and abuse them,, or when the seals break. i've had luck with mine, but then again i dont' do extreme stuff, just mudding around.,, i'm sure those unimogs are heavy duty, they're mining equipment,, made for the grind. i rarely see them. how much did you pay for yours?? where'd you get it??
I personally do not own one. I have a Ford Ranger which is a pretty tough truck but not really extreme by any means. My plan is to retire it throw it on a full boxed frame and stuff some unimogs under it. I would like to throw a small turbo diesel in it also.
@sickbastard80 Oh I don't own one. I'm just a enthusiast I do have a couple lifted Rangers though. They're tough but not that tough. I could only dream of a unimog with a nice little diesel engine.
it's basicly a 'john deer' traktor, but with 4 equal size wheels and suspension.
it's has many gears, the put tools, like lawnmowers on this, to ride along highways and stuff.
'All Unimogs have very numerically high gear ratios which allow for crawl ratios that exceed the 100:1 ratio. w w w unimogcentre c o m / unimogprinc html
great video, love the capability the unimog has, only thing is the frame breaks were a little abrupt, lengthen those and its a perfect video. thumbs up from me
when you guys gonnamake more videos, i live in antigo wisconsin, and love watching any videos from wisconsin,,, iwould love to find a unimog up here cheap...
You have to respect the driver, hes humpin a clutch & tying to look cool all at the same time. Not an easy feat in anybodys book. hats off, nice driving.
Yes his tires failed him...Getting some way agressive tires would do him a world of difference. He must keep the RPMs' up higher & try to hold it there...his gearing will do all of it for him.
i mean that thats cool and i respect the fact that unimogs are extremely capable but i got a little 84 4runner on 36's that coulda made it threw most of that too
Im very glad to see, that you are familiar with soviet heavy offroad machinery. You should have little bit of soviet machines in germany too,i believe?I actually swapped the original JAMZ-238ND diesel engine, for the JAMZ-238B V12 turbocompound diesel engine from the Kirovets tractor.
That is my 1966 International Harvester Scout 800 it can be found here on Youtube under scout 800 and scout 800 transformation. Probably one of the first SUV's has a 4cyl engine dana 44 axles 4.88 gears detroit locker in rear and tru trac in front
Nice vid, everyone around me builds up pickups to run on the pipeline and bog, I'd much rather save up my money for a stock Unimog and creep past them. Still can't get over the gross weight of 9 tons, f*ing tractor LoL!
and if you didnt know you fuckin douche canue.. the bigger your rig is the heaveir it is and you got the way more of a chance of getting stuck.. and its sumthing calledc flotation you fuckin cock nogen..
It looks as though if you own a Unimog, you pretty much have to kiss tread lightly goodbye. But hooray for the power of technology over nature all the same.
Seems to be a type 406 1970-75 and I really know they don't like slippery mud, but a couple of 1 meter long net-ladders make the wonder happen...
Chains on the wheels make it climb most rocks...
And the longer type 416 and 1978on 425 is much easier to maneuver in terrain (don't spin that much in the turns) ...been driving 406 -69 416 -76 and 424 -78 at work under most circumstances mostly fully loaded and often with heavy trailer in the present century ..old but still going strong...
Hey my stock 97 landCruiser can out do what your showing in your videos. where did you leaurn to Wheel, Try lowering your tire air presure in the rocks it will make a world of difference...
i definatly agree with the first comment...go easy guys but it was a great vid keep them coming guys without the tree crashing!! lets see what that Mog can do!
I love Mogs, but I must comment that this does NOT qualify as "treading lightly" Please help save our wheeling spots by taking care to not destroy nature!
I realize that this does not show the best examples of treading lightly. The land we are on in this video is privately owned by the driver off the Unimog and who am I to say stop to good old fun. Treading lighlty on lands is the way to go thanks for the comment.
The problem isn't the dirt, so much. It's the trees they are tearing up. Since it is private land, it isn't an issue. The problem is that tree huggers see this sort of destruction, and suddenly we don't have any place to play any more. I LOVE TO OFFROAD, and am just trying to preserve our areas to play.
