Wonderful movie. One comment to Mr Bouncy Bounce. How dare you call any American a Nazi! Whatever our political beliefs, we all love America. Nazism is the antithesis to America. The libs say the right hates and calls names. The opposite is what I have heard and seen these last few years, and I am sick of it.
A GREAT, MUST-SEE Movie. Get it .. & keep it, folks. Add it to your collection of movie-entertainment / cum history / cum education about WW2. Eternal Remembrance & Reverance to The Doolittle Raiders & their bravery & extra-ordinary operational skill + courage. "Countrysamurai" is 100% correct in his comments above .. SPOT-ON !! Re this movie .. one of Bob Mitchum's earliest. And doesn't SHORTY steal these prelim. scenes : "Jimmy Doolittle !! A Southern Boy !! from Southern California"
Wasn't it a bitch that the fucking Russkies wouldn't allow us to bomb the gooks out of Russia, then they declare war on them 6 days before they surrendered. What a bunch of assholes!
@rocketspeedy Ευχαριστώ για όλα . Έχω δει λίγο από το Cockpit , to Hell's Angels το ξέρω αλλά δεν έχω χρόνο να το δω τώρα , και το Area 88 και το Rescue Wings θα τα δω όταν θα έχω χρόνο . Όσο για το A Night To Remember , έχει ανέβει στο Youtube μαζί με άλλες ταινίες για τον Τιτανικό από τον Echeiem .
what america has become today is a disgrace to the fine young men who gave their lives protecting this once great land. tea partiers and other right wingers are the new nazis.
Gen. Doolittle was also an accomplished air racer. He won the Bendix Cup, and Schneider Trophy. One of the few pilots who mastered th "Gee Bee" racer. A fast little plane that was all engine, and had a nasty habit of killing its pilots. So he was already a legend before the Tokyo raid. I read Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo when I was in 7th grade and was captured by the daring of these men. When I was in the Air Force, I christened my F-16 "Ruptured Duck" in Ted Lawsons honor. I wish I had met him.
Today i went to an estate sale and found a book titled: Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo, copyright 1943 Random House. It was old and neat looking. It has a little picture of a plane on the cover. I bought it for a quarter and when i got home, much to my surprise there is a signature inside. Ted Lawson signed this copy and I didn't realize just how big this really is till now!
@LockAndLoadp apparently it isnt worth all that much monetarily, but in historical value i believe it is priceless. it will go next to my hitler youth knife and 20 dollar bill nazi money
@MrCagekicker It's priceless....never get rid of it. The raid occurred in '42 so that might make the book you have a first edition. I have a copy and I was fortunate enough to have his wife Ellen sign the picture of the two of them together. (In the back of the book) I have about 7 of the other Raiders sign the book as well.
Great find and congratulations. Ted passed many years ago...
I live near modern Eglin Field (Eglin Air Force Base) and it's a darn shame that I had to learn of such prominant history in my back yard from a movie... The Raid isn't mentioned a whole lot here, and there's a crummy, little-known park commemorating them in Valpariso. We really need something big to do the Raiders justice here.
Gen. Doolittle and the Tokyo Raiders are all true American Heroes. In an age where the word is thrown around all to lightly...these are uncommon men.
I saw Gen. Doolittle in 1986 and I have met about 30 of the Raiders and widows of the Raiders...including Ellen Lawson. (Her husband wrote the book '30 seconds over Tokyo.)
Great movie and thanks for posting. This comes from another time when men were men, a handshake meant something, and your word was your bond!
Hi...I saw Jimmy at the 40th Anniversary of the Air Force Association in Las Vegas. Get this...he was on stage with Chuck Yeager and Tennessee Ernie Ford. (He was a Bombardier during the war.)
I had the chance to meet the Raiders at their reunion in Fresno California several years ago. I was in town for an Air Show at the airport (16 B-25's were there!) and a good friend found out, what hotel the Raiders were staying at...we went and I got over 100 signatures from them in my books and art work!
I am a huge fan of Air Power...I'm a Life Member of the Air Force Association, though I served in the Army.
I have been a fan of Fighter Pilots and air crewmen every since I was very little! I am also a Life Member of the Friends of the American Fighter Aces. I saw Gen. Doolittle when I was about 24, but I would have known who he was when I was 10 or 11. I have met over 200 fighter pilot aces including many German Aces. I have been very fortunate to have met so many and had dinner with them.
@countrysamurai If you have not already read it I'm sure you'll enjoy "Calculated Risk" written by the General's granddaughter Jonna Doolittle hoppes.
@countrysamurai If you want to read a fantastic book about the general, pick up a copy of "Calculated Risk" by his granddaughter Jonna Doolittle-Hoppes. Really gives you insight to the man and his greatness.
@logancody05 Thank you...I have heard about her book but I don't have it. Gen Doolittle wrote a biography called "I Could Never Be So Lucky Again". I have that and it is a fantastic read. I also have Ted Lawson's book "30 Seconds Over Tokyo" and "The Doolittle Raid" by Carroll Glines. There is another book about the raid but I can't recall the name right now. I have that as well. I have been a WWII history buff since I was 12...I am now 50.
@countrysamurai Im a fellow WWII buff as well, only difference is I've got 18 years on you. I too am partial to the air war side, especially the exploits of the U.S. 8th Air Force. Favorite aircraft of all time is the B-17, loved it ever since I could remember. I was lucky enough to have a career in aviation as a pilot, and retired six years ago.
I guess that accounts for my partiality. Anyway, many thanks for the reply, it was nice hearing from you.
My dad Eddie Hall tells the gents about Doolittle @ 9:30: "Hello Gents...got some news. Quiet fellas, listen. Jimmy Doolittle's down here...and he's a lieutenant colonel now". Nice work dad.

@MisterBouncyBounce That statement clearly shows that you have absolutely no clue about what you are talking about.
People who care about this country come from all different walks of life and political persuasions!
The people who presently run this country are the greatest threat to it that I have ever seen. I have studied politics and World War II for 38 years.
Please do yourself a favor and do some independent research and stop believing all of what you hear on the news.

@MisterBouncyBounce Wow...that's really insightful, considering you don't know a thing about me.
Thank you for the advice...I'll get right on that.
Cult...that's a good one! My first comment was right on the mark.

One thing I forgot to mention...there were, I think over 85 Raiders...there are only about 12 or 15 of these TRUE HEROES left!!!
It's a damn shame that for the most part...they have been forgotten except for a few, who have kept their memory alive!
