  • Fantastic British talent!! It was a simple song but this inspiring duo made it magic, each time they performed this they had the audience in the palm of their hands' My 18 year old daughter liked their performance as well. Great memories and thanks for the posting..and thank you Peters and Lee!!

  • From wikipedia "blinded in one eye during a car accident when he was five years old. A thrown brick blinded his other eye when he was sixteen"

Wow that is some bad luck.

  • rest in peace peter

  • Not exactly an even partnership, was it. I mean, if Lee wasn't there, would you really notice?

  • He only said he was blind so he could share the same dressing room !

  • @MrKittenfur when they were on opportunity knocks people wrote in saying `oos the flash harry in the shades `hughie had to point out that `this gentleman is blind (and we mean that most sincerely friends`) did`nt he loose his sight in a east end pub brawl? he was suppose to have been associated with the krays

  • @MrKittenfur Fukn good one m8 ha ha ha you have made my day.

  • @MrKittenfur That really made me laugh ...lol x

  • @MrKittenfur Not really that funny !

  • @MrKittenfur Very, very funny indeed!!!!!!! Great comment! Duly thumbed up.

  • Just a fantastic song from start to finish

  • Beautiful song.

  • This bring back such warm memories. I was 11 years old at the time. Songs like this one mean so much to a lot of people. What a shame that young people today only get to hear songs about ego and contempt for others.

Fact: Lennie Peters was Uncle to Charlie Watts, the drummer in The Rolling Stones.

  • @TheTunafish1963 What a beautiful comment and oh how so true .

  • @TheTunafish1963 I could just about imagine the Stones doing a cover of this!

  • @TheTunafish1963 well said xxx

  • @TheTunafish1963 actully young people today get to hear more than you give credit for, perhaps you are just too old, too see or hear anymore

  • @TheTunafish1963

Lennie came from a working-class London background: family/friends in the East End gangland line. He was blinded by a brick in the face age 16 (after his sight was already damaged by a childhood car accident). He started out playing piano in the pubs. See how he always looked the part - dressed very smooth, very quality. He was a lovely bloke and this song his great legacy.

  • RIP Lenny

  • simple and brilliant and beautiful. It puts modern music to shame!

  • amazing music and timless

  • timeless

  • I shit my pants as I entered my house after a long days work.... This song was on, I cried all night.

  • @truints Did you poop in a jar and then catch the tears in it and freeze it into a fleshlight?

  • @xsisterofmercyx

Nah, he used his y-fronts as a catapult to flick the steaming, noisome pile over the hedge but, owing to its slightly mushy consistency (occasioned by a badly-microwaved Ginsters), the shit-scud ended up burying next-door's yappy little rat-dog.

I understand that the canine-coating climax of this event is colloquially referred to as a "result."

  • So underated..Saw them in Margate in the 70s several times.Bought the house down each time.

Music and recordings that are timeless.

    Dianne was and still is....GORGEOUS!!!!

  • The next time i'm at an airport arrivals, i'm bloody well singing the chorus of this.

  • why cant they sing like this today brilliant xxx

  • @TheMonkeyhanger7516 good comment

  • having a peters and lee is rhyming cockney slang for a (pee)

  • brill pure brill

  • Wonderful. Loved every word and every note. Beautiful resonant rich voices. So much better than a great deal of what we hear nowadays.

  • this guy was a fantastic singer he would have been better on his own.

  • I'm a 14 year old who juz heard this song yesterday on the radio...

And I must say, I LUV IT!!!

  • Remember them with Mr Green on O.Knocks. My Mum love this and i had to buy the record for her. I must say i do love singing it now.

  • This poor guy was devastated when he found out he didn't own the world's only singing guide dog. It was a close call though.

  • I hated this song as a child, now I like Peters and Lee. I even singalong to the words.

  • This was No1 amongst the glam rock acts at the time

  • Gary Lineker, Walkers Crisps

  • Wonderful old tune. Lennie Peters had a very fine voice. Rest in peace Lennie.

  • Takes me back to :-/

  • What a beautiful song and such wonderful memories of the greatest decade ever;)

  • wow this takes me back.

  • This song and Peters and Lee give me a very warm, nostalgic feeling. Unbridled joy.

  • Sinderella brought my here lol

  • Sinderella brought me here

  • sun bites advert. but brilliant song.

  • Pretty much the same thing as "Beyond The Sea". A French song is unashamedly robbed ("Vivre"by Stanislas Beldone and Jean Dupré, as sung by Lenny Kuhr), and given a lyric makeover.

    -

Poor Lennie Peters though. Totally blind as a result of two separate accidents, and later dies of bone cancer. Opportunity may have knocked for him, but misfortune seemed to have had all the trump cards.

  • Walkers

  • makes me feel young again

  • Fookin' capitalism. A mobile phone company? I typed Peters and Lee into youtube because I think me Mam must have loved 'em. Explains why they are stuck in my brain but remember little about them as I was born in 1971.

  • Shit she was so beautiful ... ;) T-mobile brought me here as well .

  • @milosz323

it was t-mobile for me, too. but I'd prefer a quoir version...

  • I just watched T mobile advert and wanted to hear the whole song *sways* i hadnt even heard this tune before it was before my time i am a 1986 baby lol great tune tho love it

  • T-Moblie!

  • @Th3Gamer123 Yep, T-Mobile started me on a trip down memory lane ... aaahhh

  • As a kid in the 70's, when the adults would sit around the table and party with the guitar, this was one of their fave songs, and it was my dads who passed away many years ago but still i can shed those tears when i listen to this song, thankyou for posting. great memories

  • Hmmm 6 yrs old I was and still like the old tunes :)

  • look at tony blackburns tank top, audience not really in the mood, hated the song at the time[1973], was 17, grown on me over the years.

  • absolute classic!

  • Yes, dear Maria (beadssticher), it is so sweet !! Thanks to you, MrTOTP, and to you, dear John !! God bless all of you!

  • My gosh!! This is sooooo beautiful.Very, very outstanding video.Thank you for sharing.

  • Classic, brings back so many memories for me personnally.....thank you

  • T-Mobile made this song even more EPIC! thumbs up if you agree with me

  • i was 8yr old when this song came out lol

  • @xgunslingerukx

I was too, great song to remember those innocent years.

  • 70's cheese-tastic !

  • my dad sang this to my mum all the time

  • brilliant

  • Were Peters and lee ever married

  • @podolanfifa Not to each other, but Dianne Lee was married to one of the members of Wizzard.

  • @Perranporth she was my neighbour when i was a kid she bit older than me though

  • Just wonderful, marvellous!

  • Jessicajj I looked on google and all the usual guitar chord sites - I have just about worked it out now but would like alternative versions.

  • Wouldn't have found this if not for the T-Mobile brought ad. Delightful music!

  • Does anyone know the guitar chords to this??

Or a link where I can find them?

  • @EnglishMFrankfurt Google

  • "Man, I miss the 70's Too"

  • It's not cool to slag off the past, but T-mobile did this a WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE lot better.

  • @MattTheOak What perfect rubbish that is as a comment . . . the song wouldn't even be in the set if it hadn't been perfomed by someone else originally. And even the Peters and Lee song is a translation from a French song called "Welcome l'ami". Both versions of the song date from 1974 and have hardly been heard since then.

The really great thing is that it has been revived. Yeah - it was very well done in the T-Mobile vid.

  • @alanfarr What the fuck are you on about?! What part of my message said 'tmobile came up with this song'. It doesnt take a genuis to work out that it woudlnt exist in the advert if it hadnt been done before - as you have quite clearly proved. I said it was *better* in the advert, which it is.

  • @MattTheOak Very true

  • T-mobile making this popular again. Love it.

  • oh my god thank you for the memories... its only like yesterday.... 10 STAR...

  • Wasn't there something about them using the money from winning Opportunity Knocks so he could get an op to restire the sight in one eye ?

  • man, i miss the 70s

  • Danne has a lovely voice but on the records she is so far back in the mix you can hardly hear her - cracking looking girl

  • She has proper blowey lips!

  • top tune from my youth

  • this reminds so much of my mum she loved peters and lee great song
