@SuperiorNizzle Yes. Make sure the buss send it set to pre-fader (click and hold, it'll turn green once you pick the option), and then press 'a' on your keyboard to enter automation mode. Automate the volume on the kick channel all the way down, and the effect should still carry over to the send. Don't use the mute, because that overrides everything.
@st4yfOkuZd lol I think my video quality is pretty terrible. I need to get something better than iMovie. I record them using Screenium, though. Great and easy to use software. It just doesn't have some features I'd want, like switch from full screen to mouse view and stuff like that. Gotta find one that has that option.
rather than mute and pull down the bus32 aux fader, I prefer for no reason at all to set the output to 'none' not really important but for some reason I felt a need to share it, im sure the guy who made the video knows that though, im not trying to be cleverer than anyone, nice tuts! thanks
I did everything you did but the compressor just fails to sidechain. Why??? And when I do compressor treshold to 0 I can barely even hear the instrument. Help please
Your 'bus 32' button is green, and with one left click you can change the settings to pre-fader, mine is blue and I can't change it to pre-fader. Why?
So i'm trying to use the Warped Trance Kit preset, but it won't give me the auxilary tracks to start sidechaining....why? I'm pretty new to this, and is there a work around?
hi man, thanks for your time! i have been applying sidechain to my tracks but i get a lot of volume increase when the kick (or the bus i sidechain) is off... well, in general terms i get a huge volume change if i use sidechain... u dont seem to have that same problem, do u have any idea about this?
just wanted to start by thanking you for taking your time to share your proficiencies with logic and for helping advance my knowledge of the software.
@1:37 when you create the additional buses, my outputs from ultrabeat aren't being automatically assigned properly - so i don't have 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 outputs.
is there something i'm missing? any help beyond what you've already been kind enough to offer would be greatly appreciated.
@cpickell1987 I don't know why it wouldn't assign automatically.. It always has for me. I don't know what could be wrong. I'm running version 9.1.3. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. :/
Hey i was also curious about multi timbral mode after you add new tracks...i double clicked for my synth (massive) after following your sidechaining procedure....i had trouble using reaktor 5 after because i double clicked a new track...reaktor worked after i created its new track on the menu head and designated it as software, not multi timbral....
my question is does double clicking create another instrument on a track like the one above it
@AdrienChaos You have to remember that the auto-filter sweeps through frequencies and does not lower the volume of the track. This essentially means that you're letting frequencies interfere with your kick. The point of Compressor side-chaining is to reduce the volume of ALL frequencies to let your kick smash through your mix. Although similar, it's not the same effect.
Great video, I liked the way you did this by doing it with tracks and in the arrange page.
Before I did the same (with one multi-output UB track) though with the kick, snare, hats on auxs and not tracks and the beat itself was created within UB with each element sent out to 3-4, 5-6 in the mixer etc.
Though what I'm not sure about is that in your example, you didn't have to assign 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 etc within UB itself, you just did it in the mixer, is that because it was set multi-timbral??
hey when I create the ultrabeat, some how it converts the track selected in UB but leaves the others just with the image that were created with... something I'm doing wrong?
@ketochi Nope.. I have no idea why it does that either. I believe if you click and hold on the icon, you can change it. You're not doing anything wrong.. it's just one of Logic's quirks unfortunately.
@DarrenMalla EVP88 is apparently the default instrument that logic thinks you're going to use... for some reason. I believe there is some way of changing it, but I am not sure. I'll get back to you if I find out.
Hey bud! Good tutorial! This is the basis of all dance tracks! I had checked out your personal site n reviewed a few tracks and really liked them! I would like to know if you could post a Tut on working with vocals, how you chop them up or time stretch...etc. This would be GREAT! Thanks in advance!
Hey is there a way to side-chain an instrument without hearing the audio of the triggering instrument? For example: If I side-chain a compressor to a bass thats being triggered by the kick....is there any way I can still get the that pulsating effect on my bass without having to hear any sound from the kick?
Basically I want effect of side-chaining without hearing the trigger?
If anybody can answer this I'd really appreciate it
@DJDrSciFi Well.. that's why we set the bus to "Pre Fader". Now you can mute, or automate the volume on the kick down and you'll get the sidechain effect without hearing the kick :) Maybe I should have mentioned that in the video..
@TokyoKnights3 Great :) I'll be posting more vids soon.. I'm actually trying to create a song through making tutorials :) Just watch the Kick EQ Comp vid I made... I'll start building it up.
@statman666 It might be different on your version of logic.. this is Logic 9.. maybe yours only says pre? As long as by pre it means pre-fader then you won't have a problem. Try it out and let me know!
how do you get your sidechained tracks to show up in the arrange area?
nevermind i didnt really pay attention in the first part lol is this the best way to group instrument tracks together to send midi note info to all the tracks?
@Viralwire I find it easier to have the kick, snare, hihats, and percussion separated, yet feeding into a single ultrabeat. You have more control over your filters and such. You can fade out your hihats without affecting the kick or snare using automation, or the other way around. If you prefer having 1 midi track, it is simpler and more straight forward but limits how you can manipulate the different elements of your drums. For me, personally, this is the best way.
@stevenv27 Yea if you look at the sequencer on the bottom of Ultrabeat and look at the numbers 7,8, + 9... above that is "sample", click on that and then look a little above that to the left, you will see in red writing the "Trance kik4.aif" or whatever sample is highlighted or selected... Click on that and then "load sample" and browse...!
hey nando could you please show us in a video how to make synths like in this vid watch?v=kpCnDSfLCtc this pointblank guys dont make it easy, would be rly cool if you know how to make hollow tunes and reverbs... thanks sry for bad english =/
Is there a way to take an ultrabeat drum sound (like the pulse kick) and map it to a full synths so i can play different notes of that same pulse kick?
Thanks for the great video! I've tried it several times, but the compressor won't give me the same effect. I don't hear any difference and the bus 32 bus doesn't do anything (so I don't hear a double kick when I hit the spacebar). Also I have like Coffeedrinka a 'UB' symbol next the to kick track. Can you help me out? Thanks!
Awesome tutorial, but I seem to be having trouble on my end. I get all the way to the part where you assign the Kick, snare, and High hat to the different outputs, however once I go back to the mixer, One of the channels has a "UB" symbol next to it and makes me unable to start filling in the beat. Help?
Great video! Thanks so much. I have a question, I noticed once I add the synth bass and play it back on every whole beat like 1, 2, 3,4 there is a weird click I hear. I think I also hear it in your video when you play yours back. Now where I turn it off it goes away. Any idea what that is? Thanks very much.
Great tutorial! Thanks! May I ask where you learned so much about side chaining all the synth setting stuff? I'm still at the stage where I just mess around and hope for the best, where could I learn what each setting does and how it effects the overall sound?
dude i can do this all the way up unitl the bus 32 part. but when i try to tell the bus to be a pre-fader bus it won't let me. i tried right clicking and double clicking on the bus 32 but no option comes up for me to tell it to be a pre-fader. help!!!
why don't I have the plus symbol everyone is talking about? I can create a bus but i can't route anything to it even though i selected bus 1 on each individual track i wanted on it. ?
@wigganation1550 easy! You just leave the midi notes playing the kick and automate the volume down to zero on the kick! (that's where the "prefader" thing comes in)
@nandomusique thank you very much been tryin 2 figure that out for a while also does any1 know anything about fidget house or fidget electro house theres no tutorials on that if any1 could help or maybe some tips thad be great thanks alot nando!
One question though. If i´m not using ultrabeat, then what? Multitimbral and so on? Does it matter at all or was that just so that you won´t have to have three instances of ultrabeat running?
@elek3ctii Well, if you just want to get the sidechain effect, skip all that stuff and go straight for the Bus 32 part. The multi-timbral is just so that you can isolate your kick from the rest of your drum sequence. Just send your kick (and only kick) to Bus 32 and then follow the compressor settings :) Make sure to do pre-fader so that if you turn the volume down on the kick, it'll still sidechain :)
@jamesgrubz although i did say the tutorial was awesome, i followed the steps three times and was unable to get the compresser to affect the sound. i'm so stressed. what can i be doing wrong??
@dejed19 Well, mostly because you don't want your hi-hats and snares to affect your side-chain. You want that bouncy feel to be governed by your kick and not other elements unless you intentionally want it that way :)
Dude, this is a good lesson. Now all I have to do is keep doing it till I know it. Practice (20x times)

great tutorial!! but imo the track got worse when u added that second synthD: but thats not what the vid was 4!

lol Yea you're right.. I know it sounds terrible but I was just showing off the side-chain effect on some crappy pad patch!

Just curious why Multi-Timbral is the best way in your opinion?
Thanks

@dejed19 Well, mostly because you don't want your hi-hats and snares to affect your side-chain. You want that bouncy feel to be governed by your kick and not other elements unless you intentionally want it that way :)

That make sense I like it thanks.

Nice tutorial, forward to the explanation. I've spent the last hour listening to guys talking about their life.
I only wanted to hear KICK TO BUS 1... INSERT COMPRESOR... SIDECHAIN BUS 1... That's it.
Thank you very much ;)

That's a great idea.. I'll see if I can switch between full screen and mouse follow mode on the fly with my screen capture software! -Cheers!
