My dad told me when he was an officer in the navy during Marcos' reign, the Philippines was one of the most feared country in Asia. Its the handling of seceding presidents and corruption of the government that made us weak.

The US was involved in Vietnam starting in 1960, and the war ended in 1975. During that time, 58,000 US troops were killed. Now we'll do the math for this one. 58,000 divided by 15 means about 3,867 troops were killed per year in that war. As you can see, US losses in Vietnam were small.

@SecularTechnology There aren't Navy SEALs in MARSOC. You are thinking of SARCs. Also, MARSOC replaced Force Recon for about a year. When Force Recon came back, it was being held at Recon BN; and, the Force platoons were getting filled with Recon BN guys that had a couple deployments under their belts; in essence, not a "true" Force Recon. MARSOC is really the new Force Recon.

The new Force Recon is at the same building as BN Recon. Also, retract part of my last statement. The new Force Recon has also let boots in their platoons. The old Force Recon has never done that. Their is a bunch of hoops you used to have to jump through, just to get into Force Recon Company.

Now, it is only in California and called Recon School of Excellence. When Force Recon was what is used to be, you would have to go through BRC or ARS, do some deployments at a Recon BN, then put in to try out for Force Recon by way of an intense screening. Force Recon was it's own individual unit. Not anymore, though.

Still highly respected, but they don't get as rigorous of training as MARSOC guys do for their screening nor pre-deployment training. My dad told me when he was an officer in the navy during Marcos' reign, the Philippines was one of the most feared country in Asia. Its the handling of seceding presidents and corruption of the government that made us weak.

The US was involved in Vietnam starting in 1960, and the war ended in 1975. During that time, 58,000 US troops were killed. Now we'll do the math for this one. 58,000 divided by 15 means about 3,867 troops were killed per year in that war. As you can see, US losses in Vietnam were small.

During that time they lost 416,800 troops. 416,800/4=104,200 deaths per year. Obviously WWII was much bloodier than Korea, which had more 8300 more US losses per year than the conflict in Vietnam.

@SecularTechnology There aren't Navy SEALs in MARSOC. You are thinking of SARCs. Also, MARSOC replaced Force Recon for about a year. When Force Recon came back, it was being held at Recon BN; and, the Force platoons were getting filled with Recon BN guys that had a couple deployments under their belts; in essence, not a "true" Force Recon. MARSOC is really the new Force Recon.

The new Force Recon is at the same building as BN Recon. Also, retract part of my last statement. The new Force Recon has also let boots in their platoons. The old Force Recon has never done that. Their is a bunch of hoops you used to have to jump through, just to get into Force Recon Company.

This is kind of what I was trying to explain. When I said "boot," I was referring to someone fresh out of Recon school who hasn't deployed yet; not someone fresh out of bootcamp. There used to be a second "Force Screening" you would have to go through, if you were going from BN Recon to Force Recon.

@Dogmeat1950 That was BN Recon. That used to be called Basic Reconnaissance Course in California, and Amphibious Reconnaissance School in North Carolina. Now, it is only in California and called Recon School of Excellence. When Force Recon was what is used to be, you would have to go through BRC or ARS, do some deployments at a Recon BN, then put in to try out for Force Recon by way of an intense screening. Force Recon was it's own individual unit. Not anymore, though.

Still highly respected, but they don't get as rigorous of training as MARSOC guys do for their screening nor pre-deployment training. Yes, some Recon Marines get the opportunity to go to Ranger school. Not every Recon Marine, but some. I can't confirm if they are sending MARSOC guys to Ranger school, but I can gladly find out for you if you want.

Somalia- marines doing humanitarian mission, not to capture or fight aidid. Rangers sent in to capture and fight. So Army first
Afghanistan- Rangers first
Iraq- 3d infantry division first, 173d parachuted in north
