  • que grosa

    sos una genia

creo que el instrumento mas hermoso

    es el kanun

  • American style Zither...i think chinese music is different

  • Excellent vid.

  • hin Erivan, right next to opera. i got to make a correction. the instrument is not kanoun, its kanon, and is pronounced kanon, but not kanun or kanoun.

  • Well I stand corrected then, but I have been all over Eastern Europe and Central Asia and heard a few variations on this depending on the country. I am in the Republic of Georgia right now, which borders Armenia to the north.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • I know it is an instrument played all over the Near East, Middle East, and North Africa and believe it is called kanoon, kanun, kanoun and even have seen it as ganun. Now I know in Armenia it is a kanon.

  • kinda like tomato and potato, I just know that I liked sitting there watching this.

  • Would this have been played as court music in old Armenia. I am trying to imagine the situation in which this piece would have been played. (Sorry , no historical imagination.)

  • I suppose it was (and is) common throughout the region, anywhere where people gather to eat, drink, dance and party. It's been around for many centuries.

  • jannnnnnnnnnnBRAvooooooooooooooooooo

  • You can hear the simularity of this and polka music. Horns and beat.

  • Polka?

  • A two beat, but played treble, so actually it's a jig.

Thanks for this video, it's a true little gem.

  • Amazing! Our culture is among the richest. I remember having the same experience when I went to Armenia myself. Was this in that Erebouni restaurant (in that tall building)?

Also, Armenia is full of beautiful women like her.

  • Yes indeed, this was in the "Old Yerevan" Restaurant. This place had the brightest lights I have ever seen inside of a restaurant, which was annoying for sure, but the only advantage to that is that it was easy to film in such bright light. Otherwise the food was good and the entertainment, as you can see was phenomenal. Stratman rates this restaurant at least 4 stars and the the Zither Goddess somewhere areound 101 Stars.

  • realllly nice!

  • Cool music, hot girl! What kind of music is this besides Armenian - is it traditional?

  • It is traditional music which has similarities to music in thier neighboring countries. Those instruments are found in many countries of the region ranging from the Middle East to Central Asia and beyond, but there are variations of the instruments for sure. Yeah,I agree on the girl....

  • amazing

  • Isn't it? I was totally blown away by this. I actually had a wonderfull dinner sitting right next to this. That lady was just awesome, beautiful and talented. Thanks for your comment.

  • u r welcome mate ;-)

  • I was thinking of spending a few days in Baku on my next trip to Armenia. I heard it was almost as nice as Yerevan. Unfortunately, the Azeri government can't ensure my safety. I will end up spending all of my time in beautiful Yerevan.

  • Hey, I am there right now! On my way to Uzbekistan today.

  • is this where you just where??

  • Yes, it was pretty interesting, give me a call and I will tell you all about it.

  • Very cool!!

  • Hey man it is cool. YOU shoould jump to the next door country, Azerbaijan and will find the same music. Wow she does look middle easten. :)

  • Funny you should mention that, I may be there in the very near future. If I go, I will see if I can film more of this very cool music.

  • hey buddy- dont talk like that music is urs. Armenians have been playing this music for over three thousand years, and then what happens? the turks just show up and take our land, music, and culture and call it their own

  • Never said the music was mine, I just sat there and enjoyed it.

  • you misunderstand me. i was talking to GRAFINIA(see above)

  • got it, I have experienced the music of several nearby countries of the region and do find some unique elements and then some common elements too. Hey this city is 50 years older than Rome and right on the silk road, so imagine the cultures that passed through here throughout history.
