I hope they can find a way to get rid of that whiny noise (if what I'm hearing is not the wind whistling).
In the Lexus RX 450h promotional video, there weren't any wind noises, but there was that annoying whine. I understand that all my electric RC toys had that noise but... if the car is quiet, I want it completely quiet, especially if its the Lexus version.
Anyways, this way, people can't complain about hybrids being noiseless. :P
Oh how I dream of electric cars. I will someday build a new eco house and have a wind turbine to capture all that wind we get here. Just imagine a car charged with free clean electricity? If they can make them cheap enough and can do more than 100-300 miles and can charge fast enough. That would be my next car. Diesels still top the mileage per tank charts though, But no matter how electric is generated it's still much more effifient to use electric motors.
and the point of electricity is that it has multiple sources many of them clean or easier to optimize. Any oil burned needs a lot less refining. The gallon of gas that burns in your Prius takes anywhere from 3 gallons (Arabian or Texas light sweet) to 20 gallons (Venezuelan) crude oil.
oh and by the way, in all your comment you mentioned your beloved daddy Jeremy clarkson and the rubbish show such as top gear UK, do u know jeremy is paid millions to review sports, performance, and luxury cars ?? DO YA ????? well i guess you dont since you still live with your parnts, have unstable job (probably jobless), and drive your dad's car instead of your own car that you buy (u probably dont have the dough to buy a prius which is why u are insulting it), oh well,
Wellimnothere, you are INcorrect !!, a 2 litre diesel engine will emit much less emission than a 2 litre petrol engine, but a 2 litre hybrid system (example: prius) will seriously smoke a 2 litre diesel, it'll emit much less than some rubbish european diesel engine that only proves reliable in europe but so so so UN-reliable in countries such as the USA , european cars suck !!
Top gear is biased, which is why u r biased !!,they only review perf and lux cars and insult advanced economical cars
a improvement in looks over the old one but i would be still a bit iffy buying one with them saying it can do like 60 mpg but finding most people seem to get like 43 mpg which a 1.6 diesel focus would do more mpg and costs quite alot less and the focus does drive better so would need to be alot better for me to buy one
While fuel efficiency is obviously dependent to an extent as to how you drive a car, I kind of get the impression you're mixing up fuel economy numbers. The current Prius (not the new one) is rated as 46 MPG (combined) in the US, but as the US gallon is different, and as the US testing is different to the EU testing, it scores 65.9 MPG in the UK. The new Prius is expected to get around 50 MPG US, so it should easily top 70 MPG in the UK, despite it's larger engine and better performance.
well on top gear they got around low 40 mpg driving it like how most people drive here so and ive driven one before and i got about 48 mpg but for the price i would buy a good spec ford focus 1.6 diesel sorry the prius needs to be alot better to me at the moment they seem a little pointless a diesel hybrid would get alot more mpg which makes a little more sence to me and taking in the higher price of diesel compared to petrol its still would save people money or a polo blue motion would be good
yes,it depends on your driving characteristics. for example, those slugs who call themselves "hypermilers" manage 80mpg+ out of the current 2nd gen prius, something you wont be able to do in a 1.6 diesel focus (it cant turn off the engine at low speeds or when under slow acceleration).also, you have to note that the prius is a midsize car and there arent any midsize cars out there(including diesels)that can match the prius in economy.dont forget the higher price of diesel and its environmental harm
but with the price you pay over the prius you could save alot for diesel and plus alot of diesel car emits less co2 then most petrol and the price tag of the car over the focus you could keep it fueled for years. sorry man prius is not a good car this is the final word on this. good day
again, the prius is a midsize car, so you cant compare a smaller and cheaper diesel car. for its features, size and tech, the prius isnt overpriced.
haha, the diesel is more enviromentally friendly?!?! im sorry, but what diesels emit are much more harmful than what petrol engines emit-its been known for ages that they harm the enviroment with highly toxic gasses, such as soot and nitrogen oxide. if youre a tree hugger, going diesel will just do the enviroment more damage.
also, dont forget the higher price of diesel. in fact, top gear australia did a comparison on diesel vs petrol. they drove two peugeot 308s (same engine displacements, one diesel and the other petrol) over 126kms and loaded each with 500kgs worth of garbage (bags of soil as if i recall correctly ). the result? the diesel did drink less. but it only saved $5AUD(around $3USD) after all the distance and load. so whats the point of going diesel when it does even more harm?
dont really care if it does more harm so there and i only watch top gear uk the original and best. i will never drive a hybrid end off im glad im not this serious about the enviroment. i think i will just drive my dads land rover for a while and look down on the sad people driving prius`s. bye *there will be no more replys because i am right*
and ill remind you again. the prius is a practical midsize family sedan, not a tiny city car. you will not find any other conventional midsize cars-inluding diesels-that can even come close to the even the 2nd gen prius's economy figures. and it drinks petrol, not diesel, so you can pay even less for emitting less harmful gasses. and to think that this new prius is even better. sorry, the prius is beats diesels. sad but true.
and youve also ignored everything ive said previously.
and do you seriously believe top gear? cmon, they suggest a impractical tiny diesel city car as a competitor to the practical family midsize prius and suggest it as a better altenative! again, theres no midsize car out there that can match the prius in economy. even diesels. and they even lied about the acceleration. where did they get the 13secs from?!?! the 1st gen prius? lol, its been tested and the 2nd gen prius does it in around 10 seconds.
sorry mate the prius is along way off being anywhere near a car for me need to get over it like the fad item it is sorry the prius has not shown me that it is a good car or will be a good car yet and so what if the car is a little smaller i would take that focus over it the focus is better to drive the prius has no feel. and yes i believe top gear there word is law in my view. Jeremy Clarkson for PM woooooo.
remember, this 3rd gen prius is getting performance that matches a midsize sedan like the camry or mazda 6 with even better fuel economy. dont forget that this prius has an economy mode and a power mode too. the mpg was tested in normal so it will get even better economy in eco mode.

there is a way to go,
49.8% of electricity in the US is generated by burning coal
19.9% from nuclear power,
17.9% from natural gas
6.5% from hydroelectric,
3% from burning petroleum
a paltry 2.3% from other renewable energy sources
