  • PS. You can use a line on the first course also. I did not see you using one-it would speed up your work and make sure you are level-without using the level on every block.

  • Well, I think you could speed up by applying more mortar on the foundation at the same time. Usually about 2 blocks length at a time, and more mortar on the block before setting it. You mortar looks a little dry also. No need to 'pound' block into the last one after you lay it. Just a small firm push thats all. Overall, keep up the good work and next time I am sure you can go faster.

  • Man keep making your videos. I bet your property value has more than doubled at half the cost. Never pay for what you can do for yourself. Good job!

  • hey thats cool, did you paint the outside and frame inside? I would like to build a 3 car garage with block construction but brick it inside and out.. I imagine you have to be more careful with the little bricks?

  • You don't know how to lay any block, at least not professionally, I don't know who you're bullshitting. And what the hell is all that mud in your bed joint for? Are you that low to the line? Did you check your height when you built your lead? Why is there so much mud? Anyways, stick with what you know, and leave the block/brick work to us professionals. No offense.

  • As a blockmason, I had tears pouring out my eyes when I say how you put your head joints on that block, with your hand on the side like a mud guard or something. I also saw the half block in the wall, which had me crack up as well. Clearly, you are not a mason, and I am sure you can't law any brick either. Thanks for the hearty laugh, and get off ur knees too!

  • @rogercuda obviously another mr know-it-all. Putting one Block on top of another is probably the only thing you know how to do.

  • @rogercuda You SHOULD have tears pouring out of your eyes. Following this mans lead, I have the confidence to tackle my own add-on foundation myself, which means NO WORK FOR YOU~! (What a tool)

Nice job shorecat99~!...and thanks for sharing with us other do-it-yourselfers.

  • I aplaud you for the incredible workmanship. Your handywork will last for years.

  • You da man.

  • like to say shorecat99 good job man keep up the work im a bit like u d.i.y at home to but i must say u need a bigger trowle :) ill have to make up some vids to and tips on what i know to g/l man

  • you would have had an easy time had you hired or bought (they don´t cost much) a cement mixer and added a little plastisiser to the mortar.you live and learn.looked good enough anyway.

  • Good job. I'm a woman and wanted to know how to do this by taking my time and doing it alone. This video was extremely helpful. Thanks.

  • youre very decent

  • why do people do d.i.y. they should employ brickies like me to do it for dem, ur too slow mate i wulda laid at least 5 of dose blocks in 1 min al lperfect

  • @adamcook01 because I like learning new things and I could have never been able to afford hiring out what I did to my house on my income... and slow because it was my first time and I was probably tried doing it after work. but I was in no rush, I wasn't paying myself.... :-)

  • @shorecat99

+ u don't get the satisfaction if u hire someone.

    im a brickie my self.good for u m8, i like ur video.

  • @shorecat99

I agree w/ you. I do most of my home repairs/renovations. I look at it like this... I can pay someone $5,000 for someone to come in and do a job -or- I can pay $1,500 for the material and use the $3,500 I saved to either buy premium supplies instead of 'contractor grade' junk or put the savings towards the next project... PLUS you can tell everyone you did it yourself when it's all done.

  • @adamcook01 You guys charge too much. It's not like your job is hard.

  • @ShaneMSnyder lmao ura joker, u obviously aint got no idea about bricklaying its the hardest trade u can learn. and we deserve the money we get so shut ya face!!.

  • @adamcook01 how can u say bricklaying is the hardest trade u can learn? learning a trade is all down to the individual, some people learn a trade easier than others and some people cant learn a certain trade at all,and being a brikkie for the last 15 years i thought it was pretty easy to pick up, maybe u r still learning thats why u find it so hard, either that or your a scrawny little fucker

  • Shane-did you ever take English in high school? Why don't you take life easier? You seem so wound-up over little things. Life is a one-time ride, enjoy, laugh and don't let others and simple words bother you.

    Regards,

    The English Cop

  • @ShaneMSnyder Our job isn't hard????? Let's see you get in a ditch and lay 12" block for 8 hours pretty boy!!!!!!

  • @unionbound fuck yeah, your so right, and wait, not only in a ditch laying 12's but in the scolding hot son

  • @adamcook01 lol to right employ me to

  • @adamcook01 It's not rocket science. Not all jobs are a race. A DIY'er will probably do a nicer job then you.

  • @adamcook01 Because it's not Rocket Science like you egotistical masons think it is. Half the time when you hire one of you so called experts you realize you could have done a better job yourself. Just like this guy is doing.

  • Pretty good work.

Using Block Spacers can make laying Block a little easier for the DIY.

  • Hey lady, don't be tellin no man he is icing a cake when he is doing man work! :P Great job with the icing bro!

How much poured concrete you have under the blocks, if any? I'm getting pointers for a basement storage area under out back deck.

  • july 2003?The guy looks like hes still in the 80s

  • I always get a kick out of watching diy'ers do this stuff lol!! Of course, if youre a mechanic you'd probably laugh your ass off at how I go about changin oil or replacing a serpentine belt.

  • I apologize to you. It was a joke. I can see that you are trying to do a good job, and you are.

    Sorry

  • @puroShkodran no biggie... but thanks :-)

  • you will be done by 2020 like that.

  • @puroShkodran it's been done for quite a few years now actually. i think it took a week of nights after work at the time.

  • me too, good job, I need more knowledge...

  • Good job! I would love to see more!

  • Not bad for a diy.

  • i hope your not accually going to use that as a foundation, wheres your levell? wheres your string line? and why does it take 5 min to butter one block and why are you holding mud on with your free hand lol god this is great

  • Actually, I've been living in it for years now. It's solid, level and straight. My level is the reddish rectangular tool on the ground near where I'm working. The string line is visible at the 21 second mark when the camera zooms in and why 5 mins? Because I was just teaching myself and also doing this at night after my day job - probably tired too. Anything else concern you - write me. Otherwise Bite Me! By the way, you might want to brush up on your spelling and punctuation :-)

  • look like u could use a good mixer

  • Well, I was mixing with one hand and holding the camera with the other. Besides, this was my first attempt at laying block so was going slow anyway. Didn't want to mix too much at one time or it would have probably hardened by the time I got to the end of it.

  • @shorecat99 There is nonthing wrong with that this last 2 days I learned a lote of this by helping out a guys 2nd or 3rd couszin wich lays wall foundations and its actualy a lote of hard work but cant wait to see when he gets his store built

  • Thank you very much for making these video's . my wife and i plan on adding another room onto our house aswell. Over the years i have done just about every type of work that will be needed to do the job but never on my own so your videos will be of great help to me. Our project is very similar to your's but our home is brick and the addition we are planing will be vinyl siding to hopefully cut down on cost . but maybe covered with brick in the future. Thanks again ,Rob

  • glad i could share some of my experiences with people who appreciate the do it yourself way. it's fun, it's cool and it's personally rewarding... hope all goes well with you and yours!
