The Wayne Newton song "One More Memory" was the b-side of "Red Roses For A Blue Lady". It was in a huge stack of 45's and 33's that I inherited from my parents and older siblings and which were played until they were too scratchy to play any more. Unfortunately none of us thought to keep the original 1960's presses of the Beatle albums pristine until we could sell them for boatloads of cash (in the late 70's I bought new presses of these albums)
For some reason, the reading from Augustine reminded me of an old Wayne Newton song "One More Memory". It was almost as if he and his "friend" had just split up!
@txvoltaire Yes, clearly it was a very deep and meaningful friendship. His words about it always make me think of my dearest friends and how sick I'd be were I to lose them to death.
I love spontaneous street dancing! We don't have it here in Canada... I always wondered why Americans carried flags and balloons around everywhere and now i know!
Thanks very much. I was very lucky to meet him and, of course, I continue to be very lucky to have him. Without him, my life would be unspeakably diminished. Besides, I was starting to *hate* the whole dating scene when I met him. So the right one came along at just the right time.
I know what you mean about it being hard to meet someone. There are loads of duds to sort through before one gets to the few good ones. I hope you find someone soon. :-)
yarrr! i'm sorry but nothing gets under my skin more than Ferris Bueller's Day Off - that finale would make me say "i like a swift chop to my windpipe."
LOL! I checked for the predicted spike, but it's too early for such data (or some such YouTube excuse).
You're welcome for the tag. And thanks for accepting the apology, my friend.
By the way, really, how *is* it that you're only the 55th most subscribed director of all time from the UK? No doubt there has been a horrible counting error. I suggest you take it up with the bean counters at YouTube immediately. You're at least 51st. I'm sure of it! ;-)
"By the way, really, how *is* it that you're only the 55th most subscribed director of all time from the UK?"
You're very kind, Prof. I'd been wondering how to celebrate being on the most subscribed list (at all), but having just seen your newest video about the late Oscar Mayer I feel inspired. How could any celebration be complete without enjoying a good ol' 'bum-length wiener'? ;^>
My favorite part of Ferris Bueler's Day Off is when Ben Stein is saying 'Anybody, anybody?' and then suddenly a terrorist storms into the classroom and blows his head off and then blood starts squirting everywhere. Oh wait, that didn't happen in the movie. Damn!
I hadn't seen that one. Too funny. When I first started paying attention to these movies -- an Indian classmate in college introduced me -- I hypothesized that the dance numbers took the place of explicit portrayals of intimacy. But that doesn't seem to be true. The thing I love is that they just pop up in the films. Perhaps if I understood what everyone was saying, it would make sense -- though I'm not sure I want it to. ;-) The video I had the clip of is called "Say Na Say Na...
I like when gay men say "fabulous". It is hilarious. LOL! Another great vid prof. BTW, I am straight and I can admit that that marine is a hot boy. :0
I like this video! Although you communicate a lot about yourself in your other work, it's great to see more of you in this one. I was told Fabio insists on having an industrial fan on standby off-camera to whip up and show off his tresses — can you confirm or deny? ;8)
Fabio's cleavage - gah! I loved the guy dancing - beefsteak anyone? Re Bollywood - 'Dil' means 'heart' and you hear a lot of that in the songs. And 'pyar' means love- that crops up a lot too. And 'meri' means my. So Meri pyar' is often heard. I love your voice - it's like honey being drizzled peaches. Or something. Great vid.
LOL. Before the picture was snapped I had, as the caption on the paper frame suggests, a moment to chat with him. (I thought he didn't speak English, but it turns out he spoke it perfectly. So my talking to him as if he were ignorant of the language must have seemed insulting.) We were in a mall and the place was *swarming* with women who'd come to meet and get a picture with him. I looked him over and was like, "I just don't get it." To each her own. ;-)
prof, between this video and you last video, you are completing the transition from the neutral, professional commentator you started out being, to showing what kind of person you really are. Its like watching a flower come to full bloom.
I saw it on tv and they dubbed out the rude parts........"cameron is so uptight ....if you put a lump of coal in his(badly dubbed) FIST ...in six...."
also try the old black and white pre bollywood films...less camp but wow
I've seen a couple of the old black and white ones. They did seem less campy, but it's remarkable how those films have remained *so* similar over time. It's one of the things that fascinates me about them.
Great video, comme d'habitude. I so wish that scene from FBDO inspired me like it does you-I actually preferred the Danke Schoën scene, for no particular reason. Oh, and what do you have against Fabio?
It's usually expensive, starting from hardly less than $35, but Barolo from Piedmont (Italy) is just Some Wine. Many like Barbaresco too, on average just $5 less than Barolo, but to me no chance. Back up plans for less bucks ($12-$20 range) might include the likes of Dolcetto d'Alba (some prefer Barbera d'Alba). The Chianti that comes in a straw flask I think is good value for money.
I just asked my partner whether we'd ever tried Barolo. He says we did when we were in Italy a few years ago, but I don't specifically recall it myself.
You seem to like all the things I hate. I was so repulsed by Ferris Bueller's Day Off that I couldn't sit through the whole thing, which is very rare for a film fan like me.
I also didn't particularly like Chris Daughtry in his season. I found his sheep bravado very distracting, so I was pleased, not surprised, when he was eliminated earlier than many expected. I preferred the purer sounding voice of Elliott Yamin.
But to each his own. I like a lot of stuff, too. :)
Prof, if you have the chance try a bottle (or two) of Valpolicella or Bardolino. They are made on the hills near my hometown in Italy. I am not going to tell you they're the best wines you'll ever taste..It may even be that you will not like them, but to me..they are a taste of home...if this makes any sense to you.
Buzz, I'm fairly sure I've tried Bardolino at an Italian restaurant about a year or so ago. I've heard of Valpolicella, but I don't think I've had it. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the recommendations.
i will say i'm not a big wine drinker but on occasion i will have some pino grigio, it's a fairly dry white and not to sweet(i dislike sweet wines) and as for ferris buellers day off it's an old favorite of mine.
I know it was real... I think I worded that incorrectly. I meant the intentions behind the shopping list could be dubious... uncertain. Sorry, I'm not always the best with words ;)
I've seen a longer version, but this an abridged version of the theory; you might like it. One day while hes lying sick in bed, Cameron lets Ferris steal his fathers car and take the day off, and as Cameron wanders around the city, all of his interactions with Ferris and Sloane, and all the impossible hijinks, are all just played out in his head. This is part of the reason why the three characters can see so much of Chicago in less than one day — Cameron is alone, just imagining it all.
It isnt until he destroys the front of the car in a fugue state does he finally get a grip and decide to confront his father, after which he imagines a final, impossible escape for Ferris and a storybook happy ending for Sloane (Hes gonna marry me!), the girl that Cameron knows he can never have.
I am pretty sure living around the Davie Village in Vancouver was enough to rub some gay off on me tho. I picked up an appreciation for bright colours and a strange urge to deep throat every banana I see. Oh well.
Enjoy the dancing dude enough for the both of us, my friend!

"alla salute" :D

Buzz, I'm fairly sure I've tried Bardolino at an Italian restaurant about a year or so ago. I've heard of Valpolicella, but I don't think I've had it. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the recommendations.

Great list.
I think I can think of a few things that I like.

Thanks. And I hope so. Looking forward to your list.

i will say i'm not a big wine drinker but on occasion i will have some pino grigio, it's a fairly dry white and not to sweet(i dislike sweet wines) and as for ferris buellers day off it's an old favorite of mine.
hellshade2 2 years ago
I'm not big on sweet wines either, though a Riesling is nice every once in a while.

So in summary you like stories, music, and group dancing. ;) lol

Well, not quite, but you've got some of it.

I like that scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off as well, because that's how life should be and how life should feel.
By the way, that Sexy Thing guy is really really HOT. I see why you always smile. I found myself doing same.

Yeah, he is hot. ;-) Thanks, SoullessAtheist.

I thank you for opening up and bringing some of your admirers to a little better/closer understanding of who you are. Great job.

"that shopping list is quite dubious"
It was real.
ProfMTH 2 years ago
I know it was real... I think I worded that incorrectly. I meant the intentions behind the shopping list could be dubious... uncertain. Sorry, I'm not always the best with words ;)

No problem. I see what you meant now.

Hey Prof, I was wondering if you had read the "Ferris Bueller / Fight Club theory, and if so what you thought about it?
cerebulon 2 years ago
I haven't read it, Cerebulon. Should I?
ProfMTH 2 years ago
I've seen a longer version, but this an abridged version of the theory; you might like it. One day while hes lying sick in bed, Cameron lets Ferris steal his fathers car and take the day off, and as Cameron wanders around the city, all of his interactions with Ferris and Sloane, and all the impossible hijinks, are all just played out in his head. This is part of the reason why the three characters can see so much of Chicago in less than one day — Cameron is alone, just imagining it all.
cerebulon 2 years ago
It isnt until he destroys the front of the car in a fugue state does he finally get a grip and decide to confront his father, after which he imagines a final, impossible escape for Ferris and a storybook happy ending for Sloane (Hes gonna marry me!), the girl that Cameron knows he can never have.

Hmm. Interesting.

Not *that* funny, Prof.
I am pretty sure living around the Davie Village in Vancouver was enough to rub some gay off on me tho. I picked up an appreciation for bright colours and a strange urge to deep throat every banana I see. Oh well.
Enjoy the dancing dude enough for the both of us, my friend!
