I find it impressive that after 10 years melee's metagame is still evolving. It is a great game. It requires a lot of tech skill and players like us can enjoy it for that reason. I think anyone who compares these two games is a fool though. They are completely different. Everything from approaching, moving, combos, metagame, ...etc. It's SO different. the reason why i think melee is better, cuz it has that cool shaded colour( in my opinion) unlike brawl where its kind of warm colours and also in melee its has a firm kind of grip to it and again unlike brawl, you go soaring into the air more often and everything feels soft when you hit in brawl

I'v been playing since the N64 smash bros and have been hooked on this game ever since, when Melee came out I jizzed because of how good the players moved and the controls were so good not just anyone could beat you if you were actually good, then brawl comes out.....now some noob can just win with sonic or lucas or fox and so forth just by using a smash ball -_- its just so slow compared to Melee. Whenever my friends want to play smash bros they say brawl because on Melee I absolutely rape them
Brawl having more features does not make it a better game. You can go out and buy yourself a car with a flashy paint job and high-power speakers to look good in and blast music, but if it's got an internal problem or its performance is poor, it's not better than an actually functioning car.
By "Melee is competitive", you guys mean, "We suck too much at real fighting games but we also don't have a life so let's pretend Melee actually requires skill and make other people believe we aren't failures"

I.E wave dashing, L-canceling, SHFFLing, jump cancel, crotch cancel etc etc. Learning how to implement these takes practice and do you know what you gain from practice? *gasp* Skill. On top of gaining the muscle memory required for tech skill there's mind games, execution and reading your opponent. This has no skill requirement?

The reaction time and input speed is incredibly fast and being able to adapt to a player in a matter of a short wile is key.

the only thing i dont like about brawl is that it is way too easy to get back on to the stage. I send an enemy flying and they always seem to magically float back to the stage.
i have both melee and brawl so i would chose brawl because brawl has more people on it and new idems so i would get and play more of brawl and you get to do a final smash and thats one thing that melee cant do and sure that thay cut out roy pichu (and thats a good thing) mewtwo (bad thing a very bad thing) and young link ): you can still get cheats for them and auther stuff
Well I feel that melee and brawl are tied manly because while brawl has more things to do, melee has faster and more exiting gameplay. It allows a lot more room for skill you know. I hope the next ssb brings back the good gameplay as well as better graphics.
I have fun when I'm in a competitive mindset; party games are enjoyable for about an hour tops. You cannot get very serious with a party game, hence why playability is limited to certain engagements.
This is why Melee is so much better than Brawl, and always will be - its pace and moveset (e.g. Wavedash) allow you to progress to a league where the average player simply cannot keep up, making competition all the more enjoyable.
Brawl's pace does not invoke competitiveness, it's too casual.
peopel say brawl is better because it has more features... i say who gives a shit? that's like saying checkers is better than chess because you have a special box edition checkers with different colours and bonus features and shit... the GAMEPLAY is what counts and face it, melee is just a deeper, more involving, more technical gameplay experience with better mechanics. brawls a party game and that's cool, its still an awesome fun game, but melee is tops and it is unquestionably more competitive
@FetaCheese222 its not just faster, the gameplay mechanics are just different. brawl lacks all the advanced tech melee had, like SHFFLing, wavedashing/landing, etc. brawl was made casual as hell, it's a party game (slower-paced, final smashes, assist trophies, etc), and i think its probably because the wiimote is garbage and playing advanced melee tech with it would be impossible, so they drastically toned things down.
@dbzmariogeno Hold up, are you saying smash balls were a good thing? They were the single worst thing to ever happen to the game hands down. I absolutely hate them, and they are honestly a big chunk of the reason I stopped playing brawl.
@dbzmariogeno well personally neither of those are all too important to me, but they couldn't hurt the game the way most of brawl's features did. Instead of brawl, they should have released an online multiplayer version of melee in my opinion.

I'v been playing since the N64 smash bros and have been hooked on this game ever since, when Melee came out I jizzed because of how good the players moved and the controls were so good not just anyone could beat you if you were actually good, then brawl comes out.....now some noob can just win with sonic or lucas or fox and so forth just by using a smash ball -_- its just so slow compared to Melee. Whenever my friends want to play smash bros they say brawl because on Melee I absolutely rape them

Brawl having more features does not make it a better game. You can go out and buy yourself a car with a flashy paint job and high-power speakers to look good in and blast music, but if it's got an internal problem or its performance is poor, it's not better than an actually functioning car.

@hockeyfan145 You claim that Melee takes no skill which is incorrect. Melee has much depth in the Tech skill department. I.E wave dashing, L-canceling, SHFFLing, jump cancel, crotch cancel etc etc. Learning how to implement these takes practice and do you know what you gain from practice? *gasp* Skill. On top of gaining the muscle memory required for tech skill there's mind games, execution and reading your opponent. This has no skill requirement?

The reaction time and input speed is incredibly fast and being able to adapt to a player in a matter of a short wile is key.

I've played all 3 smash bros, and this is how I thought of the games.
Original=Not bad, game's worth it for the N64 and Virtual Console.
Melee=got it last week. CPU isn't a joke. You actually have to be badass at that game
Brawl=too easy, that game was great with the characters and smash ball but, not challenging enough

i have both melee and brawl so i would chose brawl because brawl has more people on it and new idems so i would get and play more of brawl and you get to do a final smash and thats one thing that melee cant do and sure that thay cut out roy pichu (and thats a good thing) mewtwo (bad thing a very bad thing) and young link ): you can still get cheats for them and auther stuff

Well I feel that melee and brawl are tied manly because while brawl has more things to do, melee has faster and more exiting gameplay. It allows a lot more room for skill you know. I hope the next ssb brings back the good gameplay as well as better graphics.

I have fun when I'm in a competitive mindset; party games are enjoyable for about an hour tops. You cannot get very serious with a party game, hence why playability is limited to certain engagements.
This is why Melee is so much better than Brawl, and always will be - its pace and moveset (e.g. Wavedash) allow you to progress to a league where the average player simply cannot keep up, making competition all the more enjoyable.
Brawl's pace does not invoke competitiveness, it's too casual.

peopel say brawl is better because it has more features... i say who gives a shit? that's like saying checkers is better than chess because you have a special box edition checkers with different colours and bonus features and shit... the GAMEPLAY is what counts and face it, melee is just a deeper, more involving, more technical gameplay experience with better mechanics. brawls a party game and that's cool, its still an awesome fun game, but melee is tops and it is unquestionably more competitive

@FetaCheese222 its not just faster, the gameplay mechanics are just different. brawl lacks all the advanced tech melee had, like SHFFLing, wavedashing/landing, etc. brawl was made casual as hell, it's a party game (slower-paced, final smashes, assist trophies, etc), and i think its probably because the wiimote is garbage and playing advanced melee tech with it would be impossible, so they drastically toned things down.
