I can't believe how much she and Edith Piaf look alike. Although, Piaf in 1937 was much younger and longer hair, but later in her career she looked just like this!

I read that in Germany Negri is thought of as a singer. I the US people keep getting her confused with Theda Bara.

What a brilliant actress. Her instincts were amazing. Most actresses would have chosen, on seeing the man, to fumble the tempo. Negri is much more realistic -- she doesn't lose the tempo or forget the lyrics or anything lie that -- she simply becomes weak on a couple of notes -- what is happening is that character's throat is involuntarily tightening, making her voice almost crack before she recovers. Brava!!

We should not forget that the lyrics are

great expression of love in the moment

when appears a man to whom they are not adressed, yet the man not indifferent

to her...that weakening of the voice and faltering last note says so much...!

Barbara Apolonia Chalupiec (nombre mas polaco) que el de Pola Negri (nombre de fantasis puesto en Hollywood) fue una gran actriz en tiempos del cine mudo y no tenia la menor idea de la existencia de esta pelicula que hizo -de seguro-las delicias de mi madre cantante de opera y de mi padre-cantante de tangos,justo en 1937 ,cuando se casaron .Que delicia es ver esta pieza .
