I sent this to my Grandson whose Dad died May 17th 1987 In the Persian Gulf. He was a sailor, as His Dad was, this boy never met his Father ( a good Man) as he was born April 1987. I was the Mother I first heard this song when I was in the 4th grade, I kept the words and music sheet ever since. I'll be 75 next year but when I meet the Lord & my Darling boy over there, what a joy that will be.
I have never heard this song done by anyone and when I got the backing track fell in love with the tune and words. I decided to record it as a tribute in memory of the 9/11 attack on the USA. Please listen to my rendition...
Just for the record... this was an ERNEST TUBB record, in which The Great Johnny Cash graciously guest-starred. It was actually one of the last of ET's recordings before he was taken from us so suddenly. God Bless you both, ET and JC!
Please remember that there are still Mothers alive from the Vietnam War that were not given the rank of "Blue Star" that I cannot send this video to no matter how well it was done. And it was done really, really well.
I pray for all the military personnel and moreover, for the insanity that exists to end so that they can go home to their mothers, fathers, wives, husbands, siblings, and children.
This is a beautiful recording and a nice photo montage, even if the subject is painful and controversial. Thank you for sharing it here!

Sad that these men died fighting for another country.
I'm sorry but not all of the Iraqis in that whole country are worth a Single American Soldier.
