To all youth: Don't allow yourself to be indoctrinated by the Christian belief system. It is a throwback to primitive mythology during very superstitious and fearful times.
Embrace reason and critical thinking and don't fall victim to Christian dogma. Fight against it's authoritarian doctrines of fear and self-loathing and embrace self-esteem and the joy of living this one life we have.
@ThatShouldBMe I agree, you are absolutely right. Maybe you should also explain that to those that run the Alpha course---who seem all to eager to pressure people into conversion. You see Christians Evangelists love to pressure people into believing as they do---example---indoctrination of children before they are old enough to understand what they are forced to believe.
@ThatShouldBMe Nor do I pressure anyone to de-convert and become atheist. But should I be tasked, I will present a thoughtful case for atheism--one anchored in reason, critical thinking and scientific methodology.
I'm not so sure that Alpha provides much consideration (beyond lip service) to thoughtful atheism. But it's something you might want to consider it if you hold any reverence for critical independent thinking instead of letting the bible do your thinking for you.
up untill febuary last year i wasnt a christian and i never in my wildest dreams thought id be teaching youth alpha or be running youth clubs and tbh this time last year id be agreeing with you and not defending it... you never know if you came along to one of the courses you might be thinking different dont knock it untill you tried it i say :-)
@ThatShouldBMe I was raised under the yoke of christianity in family, community and education. There is scarcely an argument or approach I haven't heard. In fact the never ending disagreement among Christians each of whom claims to have the "real truth" demonstrates just how divisive Christianity is.
Honestly, I find the arguments against Christianity far more persuasive than the arguments for it including Nicki Gumbel's.
There are many former believers who wonder why/how they ever believed.
