  • The voice to me at 0:57 sounds like the dude off of Lamb of God

  • It's You have been Defined

  • Glad to know that there are other people who truly appreciate superb music created by talented musicians with a profound passion.

  • They should make the soundtrack to Dead Space 3!

  • Scan the surface, bring up vitals. Best line of the entire song.

  • @Zachplaysdead1 i definently didnt even hear that part so must not be the best line

  • @Zachplaysdead1 wasnt anything cool abt that part???? okay ummmm

  • Reminds me a LITTLE bit of The Faceless

  • love this.

  • The Contortionist, Veil of Maya, Born of Osiris, and Between the Buried and Me should tour together. No just kidding, my dick would explode.

  • When I pressed play my skin melted off and my ears exploded. And it was fucking awesome.

  • 0:40 forest whittaker

  • 0:49 oh god the faceless all over again XD nah but this is sick

  • 0:27 SEXY INLAWS!!!

  • Got this off of the GFM demo album! So good!

  • The phrase is clearly, "You have been defiled."

  • @Arhkhio "Defined" actually.

  • @Arhkhio You can definitely hear the "N" and not an "L", so i think its actually "defined"

  • i think he's saying "you have been defined" O_o

    awesome song, shit sounds revolutionary!

  • Comment removed

  • Ambidjent+Deathcore+British accent clean vocals from an american vocalist=YAYAYAYAYAY

  • they outta make a new genre of music called The Contortionist

  • @fossilknife I was thinking the same thing. They have a very unique sound

  • @fossilknife isnt the contortionist djent?

  • @UnknownRex33 They're more progressive than anything.

  • @UnknownRex33 Djent isn't a fucking genre. Enough with these subgenres, they only undermine the music. The further into subgenres we go the less room for innovation is there due to the restrictions by the requirements to fit into that sub genre. They're progressive metal.

  • @MrxSelfxDestruct Shut the fuck up fag.

  • loving the little cymbal work at 3:38

  • You. Have, Been, Deep. Shined.

  • Im so fucking high. This band is dank XD

  • This is tit-core because this band is the tits!

  • Beautiful.

  • I think the contortionist is too good a band to be categorized into a genre where other bands that are shitty are categorized like deathcore or djent. They should have their own genre called the contortionist and be the only band in it.

  • @HWAMdrummer88 Yeah I agree with you so much. This isn't Deathcore or Djent or any bullshit like that. This is contortionist metal. They have a sound that no other band has.

  • @mario1136 Totally agree bout their sound dude, totally agree

  • i prefer to call it muzik.

    this is a badtotheass

  • instead of calling it any genre call it, THE CONTORTIONIST

  • Instead of calling it Djent would Hardcore Progressive Metal be acceptable?

  • @AngstRiddenDreams i think it would have to be progressive/experimental and nothing else but theyre signed as progessive deathcore so

  • @AngstRiddenDreams Haha thats cool that you said "hardcore" cuz not many people look at the post-hardcore parts of exoplanet like in flourish, primal directive, and axiom. They just focus on the breakdowns haha.

  • Why dont we just forget what genre its in and call it THE BEST.

  • This album is like the unofficial soundtrack of Mass Effect

  • Who cares about all of this genre bullshit? These guys are AMAZING. If I had to classify them, I would put them in "THE SHIT" category.

  • If you have a deathcore band with progressive elements, what do you call it? I'm not saying these guys are deathcore, but this band is easily progressive metal. Djent isn't even a genre, it's a style. Periphery and Meshuggah might play with a djent-y style, but that doesn't make their genre djent, they're progressive and extreme metal bands.

  • This band is not Progressive Deathcore. Nothing of that exists, as it is a complete contradiction.

If you want to classify this band, they would be 'Progressive'. It is worthy to note that they have many elements of Djent, an actual genre.

  • @jake20589 they have elements of Djent, yes, but if you know your music so well you'd know that Meshuggah and Periphery would spank you for saying djent is "an actuall genre"

  • @spacefrogify You are correct! I'm glad that there are people who undstand that djent is not a genre.

  • @spacefrogify what genre would you call this? I don't think djent is a genre either. I feel weird calling this deathcore though.

  • @spencer6800 I don't really know. I don't listen to music by genres, I listen to music for what it is. But it has progressive and deathcore elements IMO. I'd classify this as djenty deathcorish BTBAM. But that just sounds wack.

  • @jake20589 'djent' is not a genre. it's a technique.

  • @jake20589 progressive deathcore is not a contradiction. the word 'progressive' describes a genre of music that pushes past the usual chorus-verse style structure of songs into a more complex, steadfast, and everchanging type of song structure. and i certainly see many elements of deathcore in everyone of The Contortionist's songs, having extremely heavy and slow atonal breakdowns and riffs.

  • @sb3740 It's a contradiction because everything in deathcore is rehashed garbage.

To the other roody-poos- I had forgotten djent was merely a style.

  • @sb3740 Well put, I agree.

  • Oh god, the sweeps! <3

  • 0:30

    BUTTHOLES

  • @Larfage more like mortals...

  • @Larfage Its actually VITALS. But i def see how you heard buttholes hahahaha

  • there the fucking best space metal band better than the faceless, for now.....LOL!

  • @insightfullness123 space metal? haha people and their fake genres these days.

  • Fuck clint mansell for Mass Effect 3. just play this album at the appropriate times.

  • @TheJosjosjosjos wait what? don't bash that amazing game! :O, btw Tesseract is the best band to listen to while playing that game

  • Fuck Chuck Norris, HAL 9000 would be proud... and maybe Bruce Campbell.

  • chuck norris would be proud

  • Sooooo beautifully HEAVYYYY!!

  • The guitar is straight growling. The start of this song gets me everytime.

    <3

  • SPAACE. REAALITYYY.. COMPLEX CONCEPTSS...

  • How bout who gives a fuck about being politicly correct.....AND DO WHATEVER you wish!! I mean it seems like everyone has their own reasons and shit. It's no body's right to tell you to download or not......especially on youtube.....I mean what the fuck!

  • the math adds up, you just don't know how to read it.

  • Also, for those of you who want to know their tuning, it's drop-Ab on a 7 string... unless they switch tunings or have 8-strings for some of their stuff. This song is definitely in drop-Ab and I haven't seen them with an 8 on stage.

    Ab-Eb-Ab-Db-gb-bb-eb

    intro riff is 0 00 0 ^11 v12 | 0 00 0 ^11 v12 ^14

^ (up a string to play note)

    v (down a string...)

    starts on the lowest string

I'd tab the whole thing out and post it to ultimate, but I don't have a 7. =[ Just using perfect pitch for that.

  • @dpackman0 you're wrong, they play on 6 strings

  • @midgaard666 damn you're right. I saw the video, thought I counted 7. Didn't even occur to me that they could be playing 6. Must be baritones.

  • @dpackman0 right tabes but they use 6 strings.

  • This band does everything right, sick ass band

  • 0:40 FOREST WHITAKER

  • @lostenmusic hahaha you nailed it dude.

  • beast band

  • These dudes are pretty fucking good. I've heard of them for awhile now, but There are so many bands out there nowadays it's hard to keep up and really give them all a good listen. They got themselves a new fan now though. I've liked everything I checked out so now I think I will be purchasing their albums.

  • You..Have...Been...Defined

  • So Epic.

  • they are not famous yet? what ashame

  • @screamingismyair They will be soon....They have been touring with really good bands lately. And now that they are on Summer Slaughter Survivors Tour...they will blow the FUCK UP. Along with The Rings of Saturn.

  • @8JobForAMexican8 thnks for the tip

  • @8JobForAMexican8 the rings of saturn are so badass :D juss puttin that out there mayne.

  • :41 FOREST WHITAKER

  • @thegreek69 HAha XD He definitely is badass enough to shout about XD

  • I would only download something to see if you like it. You like it, buy it. Or just check youtube for a song. But I personally like buying CD's because I still like them. I'm old school like that I guess.

  • I know this is totally unrelated and shit, but this song made me think of animals and then made me think "what the fuck do other animals think us?" to them we must be the divine rulers or the master race. it's hardly fair. It pays to speak your mind.

  • what key is this in?

  • @ThatBlackaneseKid107 I think it's in A# their other cd was in G# I could be mistaken

  • Who are those 4 fuckers that don't like this song....

  • 2 verses are fuckin awsome :)

  • I went to their show, and bought a ton of shit. They were amazing. Whatthefuckever.

  • i downloaded this album. and then i went and bought the cd. what of it?

  • You....have...been...de-fined

    (THIS IS PRIMAL DIRECTIVE!!!!)

  • I dont see nothing wrong with downloading songs. after all i was taught to share :D

  • ...metal was starting to get boring. Alas, my savior.

  • dude this is sick

  • These guys kick ass. so melodic and amazing. when i heard him sing i had tears in my eyes.

  • Does anyone know their tuning? If I had to guess I'de say G#

  • @DB73093 drop G# on 6 strings, not G# standard as many people say

  • @shakunkadunk Right on, I'm in Drop G# on a 7 stringin my band aswell.

  • @DB73093 i was thinkin about getting an 8 string and going drop E, what do you think?

  • amazing song! definitely proggressive!

  • I love this band for their progressive rhythms and originality. :) I'm not much into their death core, but I'm not into death core anyway so it's fine. :) The song gets really really around 1:15 when the chorus kicks in. :) The solo also gives me chills. I highly recommend this song for metal fans who are looking for something new. :)

  • Seeing them saturday with underoath :)

  • Bought this album, one of the most original albums I've listened to in a while.

  • Might end up buying this album.

  • best deathcore band

  • @peppercakeman it's djent brother.

  • How about instead of downloading albums, you fucking buy them and help support musicians? Fuckers

  • @TheMeatballMen In this I give you the right, but if you download an album and you like it, buy it, if you buy and do not like, you'll be spending money on something you do not like, so there are downloads.

  • @maledictt That is a good point

  • @maledictt its called going to shows and buying merchandise...

  • @maledictt yeah thats what i do, thats what everyone should do really.

  • @maledictt People with horrible judgement buy things they don't like...

  • @Megadedly haha well said, if you buy something you don't like SHAME ON YOU >:O

  • @maledictt or if you really want to find out if you like it... LISTEN TO IT ON YOUTUBE -___- Exactly what im doing it now and im buying it as we speak

  • @MikeyNSean Exactly.... Whenever i know there is a new album i might want, i go on youtube and listen to at least 2 song before buying it. That way you get a good buy cause you know its good

  • @MikeyNSean A concept so few understand.

  • @maledictt So there are excuses.** lol.

  • @maledictt yea but not everyone thinks like that most people are like oh free stuff and not thinking about spending money

  • @TheMeatballMen dude go see them to support them

  • @maxnewellmz8025656 I have and I plan to continue doing so. I actually got the mic for the 4 bar phrase breakdown version of the chorus :)

  • @TheMeatballMen

Or I can donate directly to the musicians, if they accept donations. Or buy their typically overpriced merchandise when I see them live.

  • @TheMeatballMen Not everyone has money for albums. Be more considerate of peoples' financial situations next time... Kay?

  • @MrIKTPQ4life LET'S COMPLETELY FORGET ABOUT THE BANDS' FINANCIAL SITUATIONS

  • @MrIKTPQ4life

this statement also includes the band

be considerate of their financial situation, which is probably piss poor

    buy the album

  • @TheMeatballMen Bands like this really dont make a lot of record sales. buy their merch go to their shows. Most or all of that profit will go straight to them(merch) and the more people that go to their shows the more they will be able to ask for next time they come to your city. We should just stop the downloading bitch sessions... at least there music is getting heard so they can grow their fanbase as well as their name to the point where they can actually make proper living off making music

  • @allatusdan that's a good point, but it's still pretty unfair to just download it

  • @allatusdan Well said man. Making it so people can download the song = more people hearing it = greater fanbase = more and more people going to shows to buy merch. If you really want to help the band spread the song around as much as possible.

  • @TheMeatballMen jus sayin from the point of view of a musician which i am... buying their cd does nothing but support a sellout label which these dont have. it does very little for em. buy their merch at shows thats what actually helps bands

  • @TheMeatballMen buying the album supports the label. go to shows thats how they make money.

  • @halocraze23 that's true but supporting the label also supports the band and keeps them signed

  • @TheMeatballMen agreed. saw them last Tuesday very nice guys and fucking bad ass live.

    \

  • @halocraze23 yeah they are amazing live! agreed, very nice guys

  • @TheMeatballMen Less than 2% of album/record sales go to the actual band. it goes more to the managers, the labeling companies, etc.

  • @TheMeatballMen that, or. you could just get them for free. lol.

  • @TheMeatballMen I always remember that, but that's why I try to go to as many shows as I can, and buy their stuff there!

  • @TheMeatballMen coming from a musician with enough experience to know, buying a cd does nothing to support a band. buying their merch is what most of their income comes from... well you know unless theyre sellouts

  • @TheCompulsionToKill yeah, but buying the record still supports the band, because without record sales, a record company won't keep a band signed

  • @TheMeatballMen bands don't get money from album sales, just the label.

  • @iamxeddiex Yea, labels take way too much I was researching that lately. Such a rip. the best way is to attend a concert (money for them there) and buy say, a shirt or the CD there instead of online, they get a lot more that way. If they are touring near you of course, haha.

  • @TheMeatballMen If I didn't download it first, I would not have a CD right now.

  • @TheMeatballMen Yes, buy the album so the record company gets $7.50, the CD manufacturer gets $1.00, the band manager gets $.45 and each band member gets a $.01.

Download illegally, go to shows, buy merch. Every person in a band I've ever talked to says this. They make like $10 for every t-shirt, hoodie, show ticket, etc. they sell, whereas they make almost nothing (if anything) per album. I've seen bands burn CDs instead of selling the actual album so they could turn a profit.

  • @dpackman0 the point of being a musician isn't to make money anyway... but your right they get paid more for shows and merch, and buying cds does help!

  • @dpackman0 YOUR MATH DOESN'T ADD UP AT ALL

  • @TheMeatballMen Some of us can't afford to ship every single CD we want from the other side of the earth for double the cost of the CD itself, or pay three times the cost of the CD to buy whatever few CDs local stores actually import themselves.

  • @TheMeatballMen I'm only fifteen and don't have a job and therefore have no cashflow, just becuase i don't have the money doesn't mean i'm going to go on youtube everytime i wan't to listen to music. I agree that bands need support now more than ever and if you have the money go out and buy their CD's but if you don't download them. If you really want to support the band buy merch from live shows or off merch sites considering they make shit off the CD's they do sell.

  • @TheMeatballMen Remember that they dont get paid much at all for selling CD's. They make most of their money from doing shows and selling merch. Records dont make that much money for a band unless they are big or under an independent label. When people want to dl the album instead of paying for it,theyre not giving their money to the greedy label owners and shit. The best support you can give is spreading their name. Making them known, getting people to buy tix to their shows. Thats REAL support

  • @EJKusH420 BUT its not so much the money from the album sales, its the numbers of copies sold that major booking agencies look at to decide whether a band would be a good choice for larger tours or not, without those sale numbers a band may not have the opportunities that they should

  • @TheMeatballMen Albums are less expensive than shirts and concerts tickets. So i already support the band even if i download albums. Music should just be free, like breathing.

  • @AkaikenSatsugai That's not entirely true, but I kinda get what you're saying. Of course there's no breathing bill lol

  • @AkaikenSatsugai

as a musician, i cannot possibly disagree with you more. music is our livelihood and you expect it to be free? do you expect authors to write 1100 page books and give them away for free? painters to spend weeks or months on a sculpture and not sell it? but then again you are probably 15 and have no notion of investing any kind of effort into anything worthwhile.

  • @FSAnimal61 I'm a musician too. I'm the guitarist from "I the Omniscient". I played live a lot of times with my band and guess what ? We did give our debut EP for free on facebook. and as far as i know it helped a lot. It's true that my goal is to live by my music but for the moment nobody payed to listen to us (and don't get me wrong, that EP is very well produced) and that's better. All we care is to deliver good music. Real musicians would pay people to be listened.

  • @AkaikenSatsugai "Real musicians would pay people to be listened." really? because it sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about. you are telling me that if a band such as Avenged Sevenfold or Kings of Leon charges for their albums, then they are not real musicians? i don't know what you are trying to portray yourself as, some kind of music world robin hood or something, but you really are disrespectful.

  • @FSAnimal61 I agree totally. It's a common misconception that musicians don't profit from album sales. . Do people really think that we spend years in a bedroom, hours in basements, thousands of dollars on gear and countless sleepless nights so we can watch "fans" say we don't deserve payment because art should be free despite the work bands put in? Even the simplest music took years of practice to poilish and perfect.

  • @FSAnimal61 I don't really know what he meant but I think you should not have to pay to own someones music to listen too, mainly because such a small fraction of a signed band's album sales go to them. I would rather skip the cd and buy tickets or merch.

  • 8 string? 7?
