i went 2 France for two weeks. We payed 200 euros for a meal nobody got filled up from.
we tried to get into the Louvre but it was closed. WE tried to see some castles but we lost direction and nobody in that country knows a word English!
We tried to go to a shop and get us something refreshing and all they had was something called "river cola"! It rained.
Other that that France as I know it, is a nice country.
Lol first time I watch it.... AS a french girl, I find it amazing like most of your video. I love this image people have of us!! but it's far from the reality :p
Un grand bonjour de la France et mille bises pour toi!!!
Lol tres bien ton accent quand je parle en anglais sa ressemble un petit peu au tien ==> cool video that accent is like the mine when i talk in english ^^
Next time do a cheesy Brazilian guy, the kind everyone hates. You have a lifetime of experience seeing them in public, and you can use your knowledge of portugese. Put on a type of outfit they wear, and dazzle us.
Oh my God I laughed so much, out loud, like a crazy person, just by looking at this video. You have the funniest face ever. I'm a French-speaking Canadian but I've been to France...However, a mustache did not grow magically on me and I did not start to mysteriously slap myself :) You are hilarious...btw, "senor" = Monsieur in French
It's always fascinating - for a French person, like me - to see how French people, culture and customs are being stereotyped around the world. I think you're hilarious most of the time, and this video is not at all offending. But I have to say, this just doesn't make me laugh and I can't manage to recognize any French trait in your imitation. Does that make you win if I say my dad's got a moustache..?
When I saw you commented I pointed at the computer screen and screamed! :D Thanks for taking the time to comment. :) You had better like my style - YOU are the main inspiration behind it! :D Thank you!
I don't know what your day job is, but you could be a really great actor. They say the best actors, like Marlon Brando and James Dean, are the ones that can play all sorts of characters. I really love the wide range of characters that you portray. :-D
Hey Daniel!Tu vas vraiment moins faire le malin à propos de la France si je t'écris dans notre langue si chère:) hein!SAPERLIPOPETTE!You'll be not a Pirate in a long time if you continue...hum!You look like an italian man more than a french man...:) SEGNOR!^^
Take Care!Hope to see you this summer in France!ahah=haha I want my mum to be your fiancée!^^
fiance!! *dies* that was great, Daniel, except for the fact that the song isn't french ;-) It's an argentine tango song :P sorry, I just can't help picking on ya.
You reminded me of some of the great silent screen comedians -- Chaplin, Keaton, Lloyd. Why not try a black&white silent short -- your facial expressions are fantastic.
Hahaha!! I love the last line "the french word for the word fiancé..." LOL!! But that's always funny to see how foreigners say "oui oui" when they want to speak French. No one would say that in reality coz Oui Oui is the name of a character for children's book :D
You and Jim Carrey have one thing in common: your facial expressions! They're genious :) And the videos hysterical. I like it, but I always like your videos :)
I totally agree--hysterically funny video, and yes, reminiscent of Jim Carrey in the rubber-face department. I suppose I'm also thinking of a young Jerry Lewis, and given the way the french feel about him, this may be even more on target.
TomCory: this is just to let you know that the French liking Jerry Lewis is an American urban legend and stereotype about the French. I am french and I can tell you that most people here (under 40!) don't even KNOW who he is, let alone like him. Btw, I haven't seen a béret in decades. This video is a parody of american stereotypes, not of real french people... :) We hate snobbery, and "artsy-fartsy"... I mean, you yanks should update your stereotypes...
Hmm. I stand somewhat corrected. For the origins of the Jerry Lewis/French phenomenon (or legend), type the following into Google: <<Straight Dope Jerry Lewis>> (I attempted to paste the URL here, but YouTube disallows doing this). Either way, it doesnt affect my appreciation of Daniel's funny and generally benign parody. Be careful: your implicit judgment of "We Yanks" borders dangerously close on that snobbery you claim to hate.
TomC: thanks for the article, which in spite of everything I think fails in showing that the french REALLY don't know/like JL. What it says about JL getting rewards in France you could say about Clint Eastwood or Coppola. As to the "yank" bit, didn't want to offend, but you see, that's what happens with stereotypes, you see something the stereotype wants you to see. Like if I see a black man dancing I'll say "wow blacks can dance!" ie: I wasn't being snobbish. Maybe a little ironic.
Oneryc59: I'm right there with you regarding cultural stereotypes. Can you imagine if, instead of a two-minute parody stereotyping your culture, you had to endure the #1 cable show of all time doing the same--and winning countless awards for it? (continued in next post....)
The likes of "The Sopranos," "Growing up Gotti" (even worse!) and a dozen-and-one films like "Moonstruck" portray Italian-Americans as uncultured goons, whose vocabulary extends little beyond the likes of "Bada-Bing" and "Fuggedahboudit." I'm a college professor; my brother is a lawyer and my sister is a doctor. None of us speaks that way, nor do we go out in public wearing sweatpants and gold chains.
Worst of all, a whole segment of the Italian-American population actually CELEBRATES this stereotype, and seeks to perpetuate it. So, yes: I understand.
Here's to the best thing about YouTube, that being the opportunity to set the global record straight, and to eradicate preconceived notions about culture, gender, age, etc. just by being who we are.
TomC: I'm with you on everything you said, especially with YouTube allowing ppl to set the record straight. I do it all the time :D As to the sopranos etc, I thought those shows were written by ppl who know about the subject. Take Scorcese and Coppola's movies? Well, we have regional/ethnic stereotypes here too...
Scorcese & Coppola did it first, and did it best, for sure! Trouble is, as with the "Artsy French" stereotype which started this discussion, Scorcese & Coppola's images of Italian-Americans are now almost half a century out of date! Ah well... THANK YOU for your all generous discussion and enlightening feedback!
Watched this in 2007.. the memories :D still love it!
