Is Bruce Dern playing a soldier that has just arrived from his tour of duty in Vietnam? Because he looks too old. He looks more like an army officer (sorry, but I cant tell his rank from the uniform he´s wearing and i havent seen this movie yet).
LOL! All of the serious whiners on this clip need to lighten the f up! this really was hilarious..and, i have to wonder why ppl who are so offended by the clip saw the title and STILL clicked to view..hypocrites. thanks, sallwrongsalright, for the laugh!! btw, Jane Fonda made the choice back during the v.n. war to show disregard for her own country. anyone who wasn't born yet or too young to have understood, don't get it. she does damage control ever since. fail.
Love that white kurta she wears it signifies her new self as she emerges from her past - universal soldier's ex. Everyone should wear such comfortable simple tops.
Is that the best you can do to mount a lame criticism of Jane Fonda? You must be one of those dudes that resent her having gone to North Vietnam once. Jane Fonda was and is a consummate actress. I have enjoyed watching "Coming Home" many times. It's message is timeless. George W. Bush should have watched "Coming Home" a few times before invading Iraq.

It doesn't have to come from the Vietnam War, but this film really is about post-traumatic stress disorder, which is common amongst our troops. But, as soon as the paper parades and accolades end, we disregard them like we do yesterday's paper and they suffer still, which makes this film very relevant.
hahahahahaha!! You are funny .... but yes, you're right, those're robot hand for sure!! And ...... wrong ..... we were all wrong thinking she would not keep her hands up, in that same position, for that long!!!!! LOL
Hate to burst your critic's ego, but you can't assume her hands were up that long. You just as well say her arms were up for 6-8 hours, because the scene is broken into 5 shots. Her hands are in that position only in one shot. They could have shot that wide as a master, and her hands were up. But they don't use much of that angle, so they may have not went through the whole scene. From what I see, the hands up were justified. The time her arms appear up is the fault of the director and editor.
I just saw this movie in an attempt to 'curl up and watch a good movie'. I have to say Jon V,s performance was wonderfully charged and Jane F. just dragged me in to her character. Peace not war! Is there ever a time when war was the best answer?
@born1965 , Fonda's frozen hands applauding a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun crew that shot down American planes causing the death of American airmen. That was her scene.
@61dodgelancer YAWN.....dumb comment! Vietnam Who gives a fuck about Pilots getting shot down. When you drop bombs on kids expect a little fucking payback when shot down.
..the hands being "frozen" are a part of Jane Fonda's
connecting with the moment. The moment of life or death between herself and her husband who is obviously PTS from the war, and is threatening her with a bayonet. Under those circumstances I wouldn't move.
It's her gesture from the beginning to "help". That gesture stays still when you feel your life could be threaten....as if one false move from that gesture could "trigger" the person holding a gun at you.
This is one of my mom's (and my) favorite films, but every time she watched it she always mentioned the frozen robot hands. It is a weird piece of direction, even though it is a landmark film in many ways.

Her Oscar for "Klute" was richly deserved. But, not for this out dated drivel.

Those frozen hands got to hold an Oscar, her second, for this performance. Fonda, Voight, Dern, Ashby and Wexler made an incredible film.
