It's tough to compare the two when the SDFM version on Hulu is dubbed in English with shitty voice actors (Minmay excluded for obvious reasons).
The dubbed Robotech boxed set I own has nothing on my AnimEigo boxed set. The latter is on a different level with the Japanese voice actors. Come to think of it, I think I have a bunch of random shit stacked ON TOP of my Robotech boxed set. In contrast my Macross set is always kept in a nice safe location. LOL

Since robotech is using the SAME MECHAS for over 25 years unlike Macross (new shows, new mechas), i recommend you to pay attention to Macross and ignore robotech.

@RJF1966 yes its relatively new.forgot the year this came out but another one called Macross Frontier came as well.They've been out for some years now.On the Robotech front they had the Shadow Chronicles.Though it mentions things frome the robotech storyline they couldnt' use certain "elements" I.E. Rick Hunter has a differnent appearance and the "veritechs" are not allowed to be the Valkyries you see here and the ones you've seen 30 yrs ago.
I've seen both Robotech AND Macross, and I have to say that I feel the Macross storyline is better; it just seems to bring out the characters and the action more. That being said, the Robotech OP is WAY BETTER than the Macross OP.
@IRunner Robotech was not bad, and definitely better story wise to the other two series used in it. I think they could've easily shifted the Macross timeline forwards and incorporated the Robotech history for a more complete history. That's not to say I don't appreciate and like the original SDF Macross.

@AkiraSamuray the japanese were the original designers for macross, in howver in 1983 or 84 america stole the story from macross and made a megazone 23 movie which was also japans original work but with different scenes and shit. then later on america started making the robotech series with macross. macross fans get kinda pissed at this since the story didn't really make sense with the megazone 23 movie though. macross has all of the original story lines and such and even so more series

man this robotech vs Macross is so old and so boring to go on and on about.
If you go to Hulu, you can see all three shows from Robotech.
Macross, Southern cross and Mospedea in both the original dubbed version and robotech version.
You decide for yourself, but to me that didn't change much of the script and in fact spiced it up with better music for the mecha fights.
Plus I wonder how many haters saw Robotech before they even knew about Macross.

Ok Im a big mecha fan, although i've only just heard of the Robotech and Macross series' could someone tell me the names of the robotech and macross shows in chronological order? Or tell me where I can see them?

@SnIkLeeT First, you have to understand what robotech is : robotech is a crappy ripoff of three different anime TV series including the original Macross aka Super Dimension Fortress Macross. robotech only produced ONE CANON SEQUEL in 25 years of existence while Macross procuced a ton of them during that same period of time. Since robotech is using the SAME MECHAS for over 25 years unlike Macross (new shows, new mechas), i recommend you to pay attention to Macross and ignore robotech.

@contemasaro MACROSS is the ORIGINAL series. robotech (or robocrap) is a FAILED RIPOFF of 3 anime TV series including the original Macross aka Super Dimension Fortress Macross. So no, Macross and roboshit are not the same since Macross is an ORIGINAL JAPANESE idea while robocrap is an AMERICAN HACK JOB. Macross has produced many quality sequels and one prequel over the years while roboshit has produced only one crap sequel in 25 years lol. Macross is without a doubt superior to robotech. ^^

@JamesBond77 thats not entirely correct robotech is the general name for everything in that universe from macross, southern cross, new generation all the way to newer stuff like macross seven. the quality depends on who is responsible for the work and i will say this here and now Harmony Gold can go to hell.
i have loved robotech since i was a small child and not a year goes by that i dont watch the WHOLE series again

Even with all the modifications (Butchery) that was done it was still good and we still got to see things like humanity being nearly wiped out and for that im grateful to harmony gold, it could have been much, MUCH worse, we could have ended up not knowing about macross it at all.

@RJF1966 yes its relatively new.forgot the year this came out but another one called Macross Frontier came as well.They've been out for some years now.On the Robotech front they had the Shadow Chronicles.Though it mentions things frome the robotech storyline they couldnt' use certain "elements" I.E. Rick Hunter has a differnent appearance and the "veritechs" are not allowed to be the Valkyries you see here and the ones you've seen 30 yrs ago.

I've seen both Robotech AND Macross, and I have to say that I feel the Macross storyline is better; it just seems to bring out the characters and the action more. That being said, the Robotech OP is WAY BETTER than the Macross OP.

@IRunner Robotech was not bad, and definitely better story wise to the other two series used in it. I think they could've easily shifted the Macross timeline forwards and incorporated the Robotech history for a more complete history. That's not to say I don't appreciate and like the original SDF Macross.

@AkiraSamuray the japanese were the original designers for macross, in howver in 1983 or 84 america stole the story from macross and made a megazone 23 movie which was also japans original work but with different scenes and shit. then later on america started making the robotech series with macross. macross fans get kinda pissed at this since the story didn't really make sense with the megazone 23 movie though. macross has all of the original story lines and such and even so more series

The video is 100% awesome. My favorite AMV. As far as the rabid banter about which is better and continuity and what not...grow up kids, enjoy them for what they are supposed to be, ENTERTAINMENT. I grew up watching Robotech. I have seen most of Macross. There are good and bad things about both, but all in all they are fun and thats the point.
Oh and please, keep the realism aspect out of Sci-Fi anime, notice the Fi = Fiction.

MACROSS Zero is the prequel of the ORIGINAL Macross aka Super Dimension Fortress Macross. robotech is a crappy and failed ripoff of 3 anime : "Robotech is a story adapted with edited content and revised dialogue from the animation of three different mecha anime series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA."
