Sorry to hear about your issue, glad its fixed though! In regards to all the people hating on VW, Why? Today they have the same build quality as any other car. I have heard plenty of stories about other car companies with issues on them and everyone says the car company sucks. Yea im no scientist but today all car manufacturing is the same process so same quality. Secondly if VW is so bad of a car brand why didn't they have financial troubles?
man i would never buy a vw, a couple of people i know have them and they are nice and comfy when brand new but after 2-3 years they just seem to fall apart.
Regarding what finally fixed it, Volkswagen eventually had to replace the entire sunroof, tracks and all.
To 'lickmyfart', are you for real? I know what kind of car I have, a 2010 VW Golf Wagon TDI, as the title of this post says. The same car is marketed in the States as a Jetta Sportswagen, but not where I live, or anywhere else in the world for that matter.
My 2011 Jetta Sportwagen TDI has this same issue! Taking it to dealer tomorrow for 3rd time. Thought heat was issue but today was high of 50 and rainy. See my video. What finally fixed yours?
Same problem is happening w/ my 2010 TDI Wagon. After taking it to the dealership on 4 separate occasions, they finally replaced the motor that opens/closes the sunroof. But unfortunately this did not solve the issue, as it still happens when it's hot out.
I am thinking about buying a new TDI Jetta Sportwagen or the Golf 4 door. I could not decide on the panoramic sunroof. I think I am going to pass and save $1300. I heard older VW sun roofs leaking. I have sun roofs on my Acura's for decades and never an issue with the sun roofs. Cheers
Thanks for your comments. We have pulling back on the back side of the button, but no luck. This is definitely a faulty sunroof and we're not the only to have this problem (see tdiclub forums on the topic). You can hear the squeeking/scratching sound when it opens and closes. In the heat, when I hear theat sound upon opening, I can be sure it won't close.
Are you sure that you don't have the tilt function activated. Cause when you go to close the sunroof, it maybe automatically going to moonroof mode. Try pulling the back side of the button down. And it should tilt the sunroof so it close's. (the back side of the button, the side that faces the back of the car, pull that side of the button down)

Man, love the panoramic moonroof! But not many car makers make those probably due to easily break. :/
